Climatic abnormal phenomena involving El Nino and La Nina have been frequently reported in recent decades. The interannual climate variability represented by El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is sometimes investigated to account for the climatic abnormal phenomena around the world. Although many hydroclimatologists have studied the impact of ENSO on regional precipitation and streamflow, however, there are still many difficulties in finding the dominant causal relationship between them. This relationship is very useful in making hydrological forecasting models for water resources management. In this study, the seasonal relationships between ENSO and hydrologic variables were investigated in Korea. As an ENSO indicator, Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) was used. Monthly precipitation, monthly mean temperature, and monthly dam inflow data were used after being transformed to the standardized normal index. Seasonal relationships between ENSO and hydrologic variables were investigated based on the exceedance probability and distribution of hydrologic variables conditioned on the ENSO episode. The results from the analysis of this study showed that the warm ENSO episode affects increases in precipitation and temperature, and the cold ENSO episode is related with decreases in precipitation and temperature in Korea. However, in some regions, the local relationships do not correspond with the general seasonal relationship.
The Geant 4 simulated the linear accelerator (VARIAN CLINAC) based on the previously implemented BEAMnrC data, using the head structure of the linear accelerator. In the 10 MV photon flux, Geant4 was compared with the measured value of the percentage of the deep dose and the lateral dose of the water phantom. In order to apply the dose calculation to the body part, the actual patient's lung area was scanned at 5 mm intervals. Geant4 dose distributions were obtained by irradiating 10 MV photons at the irradiation field ($5{\times}5cm^2$) and SAD 100 cm of the water phantom. This result is difficult to measure the dose absorbed in the actual lung of the patient so the doses by the treatment planning system were compared. The deep dose curve measured by water phantom and the deep dose curve calculated by Geant4 were well within ${\pm}3%$ of most depths except the build-up area. However, at the 5 cm and 20 cm sites, 2.95% and 2.87% were somewhat higher in the calculation of the dose using Geant4. These two points were confirmed by the geometry file of Genat4, and it was found that the dose was increased because thoracic spine and sternum were located. In cone beam CT, the dose distribution error of the lungs was similar within 3%. Therefore, if the contour map of the dose can be directly expressed in the DICOM file when calculating the dose using Geant4, the clinical application of Geant4 will be used variously.
The detailed interdisciplinary surveys were conducted on the pattern of habitat use of dominant fishes during the spawning and adult stage. The hydraulic parameters of the depth and velocity, discharge, substrate cover streams, and distribution of fish in the Yeonggang, WiCheon, HoeCheon, GeochangwiCheon, CheongdoCheon, DanjangCheon (the Nakdong River Basin) were measured. The Habitat Suitability Criteria was developed for the two fish species (Zacco Platypus and Zacco Temmincki) and life stages(spawning and adult), habitat conditions (depth, velocity and covet). The Physical Habitat Simulation of the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology was applied to calculate for optimal flow and the ecological flow recommendation was proposed by choosing the largest one in the optimal flow. The ecological flow recommendation was $5.0\;m^3/s{\sim}10.0\;m^3/s$ (e.g., $6.5\;m^3/s$ in the NaeseongCheon). Also, the ecological flow recommendations were compared with the existing ecological flow and flow duration analysis.
To make a stable o/w emulsion, the effects of egg lecithin as an emulsifier and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as an auxiliary emulsifier on the physical stability of emulsion were investigated. The oil-in-water emulsion system was manufactured by microfluidizer and evaluated the physical stability. Average particle size and size distribution of emulsion was measured by dynamic light scattering analyzer and interfacial tension was measured. From the interfacial tension tested, critical micelle concentration of the egg lecithin was 0.1 %w/v and optimal concentration for the preparation of emulsion was 1.0 %w/v. The mean particle size was about $0.2\;{\mu}m$ which was suitable for injections. The short-term accelerated stability studies were conducted by centrifugation, freeze-thaw method and shaking of the emulsion samples. The addition of PVP was caused the reduction in the particle size and improved the physical stability of emulsion. These results suggested that a mixed interfacial film comprising the egg lecithin and PVP was formed at the o/w interface and it was effective in preventing phase separation under thermic or mechanical stress. We used antineoplaston A10 (A10) as a model drug which is peptide and amino acid derivative having a action to the living organism against the development of neoplastic growth by a nonimmunological progress. It has a poor solubility in water and there may be a difficulty in formulation of A10. Emulsion formulation study about A10 was performed. Solubility of A10 in emulsion was about five times as high as that in water. From the results of solubility and partition coefficient, almost A10 molecules in o/w emulsion exist in the interface between oil and water.

Liquid Chromatographic behavior of Pd(II) in Isonitrosoethylacetoacetate lmine, $Pd(IEAA-NR)_2$ (R=H, $CH_3$, $C_2H_5$, $n-C_3H_7$, $C_6H_5-CH_2$, $n-C_4H_9$) chelates were investigated by reversed-phase HPLC on Micropak MCH-5 column using methanol/water as mobile phase. The optimum conditions for the separation of $Pd(IEAA-NR)_2$ chelates were examined with respect to the effect of the flow rate, sample solvent, mobile phase strength and column temperature. It wass found that metal chelates were properly eluted in an acceptable range of capacity factor value($0{\leq}log\;k^{\prime}{\leq}1$). The dependence of the logarithm of capacity factor(k') on the volume fraction of water in the binary mobile phase was examined. Also, the dependence of k' on the liquid-liquid extration distribution ratio($D_c$) in methanol-water/n-alkane extration system was investigated. Both kinds of dependence are linear, which susggests that the retention of the electroneutral metal chelate is largely due to the solvophobic effect. Standard adsorption enthalpy changes (${\Delta}H^{\circ}$) and standard adsorption entropy changes (${\Delta}S^{\circ}$) of Pd(II) Isonitrosoethylacetoacetate imine chelates on Micropak MCH-5 column were calculated by measuring capacity factor with changing temperature of the column.

The tidal discharge is defined as the quantity of water flowing through a certain cross-section per unit of time, in contrast to river discharges, tidal discharges change periodically in magnitude and direction. Thus the total volumes of water flowing into again out of the system-called flood volume and ebb volume, respectively, depend on both the tidal and the river discharges. To ditermine the tidal discharge and the flood and ebb volumes of the Yong-san river, the discharges were measured at spring, mean and neap tide and simultaneous gage reading were taken at Samhak-do, Lower Myo-do, Myongsan-ni and Naju. The general procedure for measuring the tidal discharges was as follows. First, several cross-sections were measured and one of them was chosen. First, several cross-sections were measured and one of them was chosen. Then verticals were serected in the chosen cross section. Because comparatively few verticals should be representative of the discharge distribution over the river profile, the selection was done in accordance with the somtimes irregular bottom profile. The velocities were measured with the same current meters. The observations which included water level readings were continued for a period of about 13 hours. The current direction meter, a pyramid shaped resistance body, suspend in the water on a thin wire. The bubble in a circular tilting level fixed to the wire indicates the direction of the current. Reading were taken at intervals of 1m for depths of 10m or less, and for depths over 10m at intervals of 2m, going downwards and upwards. The averages of the two velocities were used for the computation of the discharges. The discharges and the flood and ebb volumes were ditermined by a graphical method. The mean velocities, corrected for their direction when necesary, were ditermined for each time interval and each vertical, and these velocities were plotted against the time. The resulting curves show possible mistakes very clearly, and the effect of observation errors could be reduced. The corrected velocities read from the curve at half-hour intervals were multiplied by the depth at the virtical at the corresponding time. The discharges thus found were ploted against the position of the vertical in the transit and joined by a smooth curve, integration of the curve rendered the total discharges as they occurred of half-hour intervals. Plotting these total discharges against the time yeilded during the day. The flood and ebb volumes were obtained by integration of the total discharge curve.

Liquid Chromatographic behavior of Ni(II) in Isonitrosoethylacetoacetate Imine(IEAA-NR), Ni(IEAA-NH)(IEAA-NR)(R = H, CH_3, C-2H_5, n-C_4H_9, C_6H_5-CH_2) chelates were investigated by reversed-phase HPLC on Micropak MCH-5 column using methanol/water as mobile phase. The optimum conditions for the separation of Ni(IEAA-NH)(IEAA-NR) chelates were examined with respect to the effect of the flow rate, sample solvent, mobile phase strength and column temperature. It was fo$und that metal chelates were properly eluted in an acceptable range of capacity factor value(0{\le}logk'{\le}1). The dependence of the logarithm of capacity factor (k') on the volume fraction of water in the binary mobile phase as well as on the liquid-liquid extraction distribution ratio (Dc) in methanol-water/n-alkane extraction system showed the good linearties, and the dependence of the logarithm of capacity factor (k') on the column temperature and on the enthalpy exhibited the good linearties, and the compensation temperature ({\beta}) from the slope was 773.47{\circ}K. It was suggested that the retention of metal chelates was largely affected by the hydrophobic effect.

Cost efficiency is today the primary requirement in the paper and board industry. This has led therefore, to a greater preponderance of products with specifically designed functionality to take account of current industry needs. Continually increasing machine coating speeds together with these new coating colour components have put more emphasis on the importance of the correct rheology and water retention of the coating colours to achieve good runnability and end product quality. In the coating process, some penetration of the aqueous phase, to the base paper or board must occur to anchor the pre-coating to the base or the topcoat to the pre-coat. The aqueous phase acts as a vehicle not only for the binder, but also for the other components. If this water or material penetration is not controlled, there will be excessive material shift from the coating colour to the base, before immobilization of the coating colour will stop this migration. This can result in poor machine runnability, unstable system and uneven coating layer, impacting print quality. The performance of rheology modifiers or thickeners on the coating color have tended to be evaluated by the term, "water retention". This simple term is not sufficient to explain their performance changes during coating. In this paper we are introducing a new concept of "material retention", which takes note of the total composition of the coating colour material and therefore goes beyond the concept of only water retention. Controlled material retention leads to a more uniform z-directional distribution of coating colour components. The changes that can be made to z-directional uniformity will have positive effects on print quality as measured by surface strength, ink setting properties, print gloss, mottling tendency. Optical properties, such as light scattering, whiteness and light fastness delivery should also be improved. Additionally, controlled material retention minimizes changes to the coating colour with time in re-circulation giving less fluctuation in quality in the machine direction since it more closely resembles fresh coating for longer periods. Use of the material retention concept enables paper and board producers to have more stable runnability (i.e. lower process costs), improved end product quality (i.e. better performance of used chemicals) and/or optimized use of coating colour components (i.e. lower total formulation cost)

The purpose of this study is to identify the ecological characteristics and biological interactions between species of the abandoned rice paddy field in mountainous areas and to suggest a management strategy for stable food chain formation and biodiversity enhancement. The study site is located in Uldae wetland of Songchu district Bukhansan National Park, site characteristics and biological habitat characteristics were identified through site survey and literature survey. With regard to physical environment, among geographical features, the Uldae Wetland and the neighborhood inside the basin was a gently sloping area($5{\sim}15^{\circ}$). And 64.0% of basin faced the north. With regard to water environment, the Uldae Wetland was wetland of rainfed paddy field depending on precipitation and the system of stream flowing into the wetland from valley. According to the results of examining flora in plant ecology, in general, they were herbaceous wetland species. 88.6% of existing plants inside the Uldae Wetland basin was a forest in the mountain. And Quercus spp. community and Pinus densiflora community accounted for 64.6% of that, and was dominant. Except for that, Salix koreensis community was distributed. The existing vegetation of Uldae Wetland inhabited wetland species and terrestrialization indicator species, and it was thought that partial terrestrialization inside the Uldae Wetland was in progress after the discontinuation of paddy cultivation, such as the expansion of Salix koreensis distribution area. In the status of appearing faunae in the Uldae Wetland with regard to wildbirds of appearing principal species, The Uldae wetland was based on a abandoned rice paddy field various wildlife, and was a wildlife feeding, spawning, and resting place. The water environment was an important factor in maintaining the wetland living creatures function, habitat of waterbirds and benthic macroinvertebrates, amphibians and odonate are spawning ground and habitat, it was affecting the vegetation ecosystem based on wetlands. In order to maintain the diversity of wildlife, it was important to maintain smooth water supply and water level. A stable food chain will be formed and the Uldae wetland biodiversity will be abundant by establishing the relationship between the species of Uldae wetland, which is abandoned rice paddy field, and the habitat environment favored by species belonging to the ecosystem stepwise linkage. The ecological characteristics of the Uldae wetlands and the relation between the species were analyzed and the environmental conditions were reflected in the planning and management plan of Uldae wetland ecology.

Ion chromatography (IC) coupled with conductivity detector (CD) is a common system for the determination of perchlorate in water samples. Although the IC method with CD has been widely used for the determination of trace level perchlorate ion in water, sensitivity decreases dramatically as the complexity of the matrices increases. Here we proposed the application of ion chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (IC-MS/MS) to significantly improve selectivity of perchlorate. The mean recovery of the method was 104.4 ${\pm}$ 5.7% and the relative standard deviation (RSD%) was 1.9 ${\pm}$ 1.3%. The alculated method detection limit (MDL) was 0.0207 ${\pm}$ 0.0099 ${\mu}g/L$. The concentrations of perchlorate were minimum <0.1 ${\mu}g/L$ and maximum 18.3 ${\mu}g/L$ in source water (Namhan, Bukhan and Han River). Hongreung showed higher concentrations ($1^{st}$-14.3 ${\mu}g/L$, $2^{st}$-18.3 ${\mu}g/L$) than the other places. And the concentrations of perchlorate were 0.18~0.34 ${\mu}g/L$ in the samples taken from the six water treatment plants and six intake stations in Seoul.
