This study was carried out to recover gold, silver and other valuable metals from the printed circuit boards (PCB) of waste computers. PCB samples were crushed to under 1mm by a shredder and initially separated into 30% conducting and 70% non-conducting materials by an electrostatic separator. The conducting materials, which contained the valuable metals, were then used as the feed material for magnetic separation where it was found that 42% was magnetic and 58% non- magnetic. The non-magnetic materials contained 0.227mg/g Au and 0.697mg/g Ag. Further leaching of the non-magnetic component using 2.0M sulfuric acid and 0.2M hydrogen peroxide at 85$^{\circ}C$ extracted more than 95% copper, iron, zinc, nickel and aluminium. Au and Ag were not extracted in this solution, however, more than 95% of Au and 100% of Ag were selectively leached with a mixed solvent (0.2M ammonium thiosulfate, 0.02M copper sulfate, 0.4M ammonium hydroxide). Finally, the residues were reacted with a NaCl solution to leach out Pb while sulfuric acid was used to leach out Sn. Recoveries reached 95% and 98% in solution, respectively.

Recently rapid economic growth and technological development have led to an increase in the generation of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). As the amount of electric and electronic waste generated increases, the importance of processing waste printed circuit boards (PCB) is also increasing. Various studies have been conducted to recycle various valuable metals contained in a waste PCB in an environmentally friendly and economical manner. To get anode slime containing Ag and Au, Anode copper prepared from PCB scraps was used by means of electro-refining. Ag and Au recovery was conducted by leaching, direct reduction, and ion exchange method. In the case of silver, the anode slime was leached at 3 M $HNO_3$, 100 g/L, $70^{\circ}C$, and Ag was recovered by precipitation, alkali dissolution, and reduction method. In the case of gold, the nitrate leaching residues of the anode slime was leached at 25% aqua regia, 200 g/L, $70^{\circ}C$, and Au was recovered by pH adjustment, ion exchange resin adsorption, desorption and reduction method. The purity of the obtained Au and Ag were confirmed to be 99.99%.
It is generally well known that PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is an electric component assembled by various metals mixed with plastics and ceramics. Accordingly, it is very important to extract metallic components from used PCBs from the point of view of recycling of used resources as well as an environmental protection. In this paper, patents and paper on the recycling technologies of PCB were analyzed. The range of search was limited in the open patents of USA (US), European Union (EP), Japan (JP), Korea (KR) and SCI journals from 1980 to 2011. Patents and journals were collected using key-words searching and filtered by filtering criteria. The trends of the patents and journals was analyzed by the years, countries, companies, and technologies.
A practical and efficient disposal of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in waste transformer oil by a chemical dechlorination process has been reported. The transformer oil containing commercial PCB mixtures (Aroclor 1242, 1254 and 1260) was treated by the required amounts of PEG 600 (polyethylene glycol 600), potassium hydroxide (KOH) and aluminum (Al), along with different reaction temperatures and times. The reaction of PEG with PCBs under basic condition produces arylpolyglycols, the products of nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The relative efficiencies of PCB treatment process were assessed in terms of destruction and removal efficiency (DRE, %). Under the experimental conditions of PEG600/KOH/Al/100 oC/2hr, average DRE of PCBs was approximately 78%, showing completely removal of PCBs containing 7-9 chlorines on two rings of biphenyl which appear later than PCB no. 183 (2,2',3,4,4',5',6-heptaCB) in retention time of GC/ECD. However, when increasing the reaction temperature and time to 150 oC and 240 min, average DRE of PCBs including the most toxic PCBs (PCB no. 77, 105, 118, 123 and 169) in PCB family reached 99.99% or better, with the exception of PCB no. 5 and 8 (2,3-diCB and 2,4'-diCB). In studying the reaction of PEG with PCBs, it confirmed that the process led to less chlorinated PCBs through a stepwise process with the successive elimination of chlorines. The process also permits complete recovery of treated transformer oil through simple segregating procedures.
Recently, the amount of electronic scrap is rapidly increasing due to the rapid growth of the electronics industry. Among the components of electronic scrap, the printed circuit board(PCB) is an important recycling target which includes common metals, precious metals, and rare metals such as gold, silver, copper, tin, nickel and so on. In Korea, however, PCB recycling technologies are mainly commercialized by some major companies, and other process quantities are not accurately counted. According to present situation, several urban mining companies, research institutes, and universities are conducting research on recovery of valuable metals from PCBs and/or reusing them as raw materials that is different from existing commercialization process developed by major companies. In this study, we analyzed not only current status of collection/disposal process and recycling of waste PCBs in Korea but also the trend of recycling technologies in order to help resource circulation from waste PCBs become more active.

Using the pyrolyzed carbon black (PCB) from waste tires, the performance of 13 mm dense-graded hot mix asphalt was evaluated. The Marshall mix design was carried out and the measured optimal asphalt content was 5.8%. The impact resonant test was conducted to obtain the elastic modulus and damping ratio of the hot mix asphalt. The elastic modulus of HMA increased with increasing amount of PCB. On the other hand, there was no significant change in the damping ratio. The Marshall mix design, indirect tensile test, permanent deformation test, and program analysis were carried out. The strength ratio of the PCB modified asphalt mixtures was within 10%. More 10% of PCB was not good for the permanent deformation of hot mix asphalt. From the pavement design program, the use of 5% PCB in hot mix asphalt showed a decrease in the top-down crack, bottom-up crack, and permanent deformation. Judging from the limited test and analysis, the use of 5% PCB is good for enhancing the pavement performance.

Blood serum concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in employees who worked at a municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI), members of residential community who lived near the MSWI (<0.3km) and members of residential community lived far from the MSWI (>10 km). Human blood serum samples were analyzed for all PCB congeners using high-resolution gas chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). The mean levels of total PCBs and dioxin-like PCBs in 87 serum samples were 242.77 ng/g lipid and 8.83 TEQ pg/g lipid, respectively. The PCB homologue profiles showed that penta-, hexa-, hepta-chlorinated biphenyls contributed more than 80% of the total PCBs concentration. The most abundant congeners were PCB153, PCB138, PCB180, PCB187, PCB118. A statistical analysis was performed to determine whether there were significant correlations between PCB concentrations and specific variables such as age, gender, smoking habits, occupation, BMI (Body Mass Index) and time of residence. As a result, the age was found to be strongly correlated with serum PCB concentrations. In addition, there were strong correlations between total PCBs and PCB153 (r=0.93, p<.0001), dioxin-like PCBs and PCB118 (r=0.98, p<.0001). So these two congeners are satisfactory indicators for total PCB concentrations and dioxin-like PCBs in human blood respectively.

Most of the topic in PCB industry was about increasing the volume of product for the development of electronics in numerous industrial application area. However, it has been emerged that yield improvement quality manufacturing via detecting any suspicious process in order to minimize the scrapped product and material waste. In addition, recently, restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) claims that electronic manufacturing environment should reduce the harmful chemicals usage, thus the importance of monitoring copper etchant and detecting any mis-processing is crucial for electronics manufacturing. In this paper, we have developed real-time chemical monitoring system using RGB sensor, which is simpler but more accurate method than commercially utilized oxidation reduction potential (ORP) technique. The developed Cu etchant monitoring system can further be utilized for copper interconnect process in future nano-semiconductor process.
Routing region modeling method of auto_routing systems are use the grid and the non-grid type. Though grid type has a few electrical and physical element on PCB, grid type has disadvantage which decrease the auto-routing speed dur to constraint with board and gird size. Thus it increase the memory capacity, Non-grid type(Shape baed type) use the region processing type, so it has 44.2% memory decrease effect than grid type in routing region. Thus, via number has 55% decrease effect, total routing time is increased 83.8% than conventional PCB system. In this paper we developed high speed PCB auto-routing system without memory waste by using shaped type applicant with auction algorithm which reaching the destination from one-point with best speed and solving the path problem. Also, this system developed by Visual C++ in IBM Pentium computer Window environment, and compatible with other PC.
In this study, PCDD/PCDFs, PAHs and PCBs in wastes from metal, plastic and wastewater treatment facilities were analyzed. The concentrations of PCDD/PCDFs ranged from 7.37~432.20 ng-TEQ/kg in fly ash, 0.51~855.01 ng-TEQ/kg in incinerated ash and 0.37~385.81 ng-TEQ/kg in dust. Dioxin content was lower, compared to data in foreign countries. PAHs concentration was in the range of 0.0075~2.9225 mg/kg for process sludge and 0.0035~1.6716 mg/kg for wastewater sludge, which satisfied all of the two standards (Nap, Ant, B(a)F:4/0.8, Phen, B(a)A:5/1, Flt:10/2.5, B(a)P:4.5/0.9) of the Marine Environment Management Act. PAHs concentration in process sludge and wastewater sludge were slightly lower than those abroad. According to the analysis of seven types of PCBs (in comparison with the first standard, 0.15 mg/kg), concentration was found in the range of 0.0~0.65 mg/kg, while PCB-52, PCB-101, PCB-138, PCB-153 and PCB-180 isomers were detected in excessive value in some machine oil and hydraulic fluid.
