In this study, a mathematical model for a thermal analysis of a flat heat pipe with a grooved wick structure is presented. The effects of the liquid-vapor interfacial shear stress, the contact angle, and the amount of liquid charge have been included in the proposed model. In particular, the axial variations of the wall temperature and the evaporation/condensation rates are considered by solving the one-dimensional conduction and the augmented Young-Laplace equations, respectively. In order to verify the model, the results obtained from the model are compared to existing experimental data.

For the safety analysis of large structures such as nuclear containment buildings, we conventionally prefer to use analytical approach using finite element method rather than empirical test. Therefor, this paper is mainly focused to develop low-order solid finite element model with the elasto-plastic material model for the safety analysis of nuclear containment building. Drucker-Prager failure criteria in uncracked concrete and maximum tensile stress criteria in cracked concrete are used to model the constitutive behavior of concrete. The concrete material model takes into account the aspects of tensile strain, compression strength reduction of concrete and shear transfer to improve the accuracy of the finite element analysis. Finally, numerical simulation to compare the performance of the developed model with experimental results is employed. The numerical results in this study agree very well with the experimental data.
It is very important that piping system shall meet the optimum design requirement as predicted in designing system. If the piping system proved not to meet the requirement in commission it shall be redesigned and corrected till the required capacity is satisfied. which costs much expense. The objective of this study is to understand steady 3-dimensional flow phenomena in a process piping system numerically. 3-dimensional numerical simulations with standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model were carried out by using ALGOR code for three cases of Reynolds number. 2500, 3500 and 4500, based on inlet pipe diameter and three cases of inflow air temperature, $20^{\circ}C,\;50^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$.
A numerical analysis is performed to investigate the effect of rotation on the blood flow characteristics with four different angular velocities. The artery has a cylindrical shape with 50% stenosis rate symmetrically distributed at the middle. Blood flow is considered a non-Newtonian fluid. Using the Carreau model, we apply the pulsatile velocity profile at the inlet boundary. The period of the heart beat is one second. In comparison with no-rotation case, the flow recirculation zone (FRZ) contracts and its duration is reduced in axially rotating artery. Also wall shear stress is larger after the FRZ disappears. Although the geometry of artery is axisymmetry, the spiral wave and asymmetric flow occur clearly at the small rotation rate. It is caused that the flow is influenced by the effects of the rotation and the stenosis at same time.

The fully developed turbulent momentum and heat transfer induced by the square-ribbed roughness elements on both the inner and outer wall surfaces in concentric annuli are studied analytically based on a modified turbulence model. The analytical results of the fuid flow are verified by experiment. The experiment is done with a pitot tube and a X-type hot wire anemometer to measure the time mean velocity profiles, zero shear stress positions, maximum velocity positions and friction factors, and etc. shown in Fig.1. The resulting momentum and heat transfer are discussed in terms of various parameters, such as the radius ratio, the relative roughness, the roughness density, Reynolds number, Nusselt bumber and Prand시 number. The study demonstrates that certain artificial roughness elements may be used to enhance heat transfer rates with advantage from the overall efficiency point of view by investigating turbulent flows and heat transfer in Fig.1.

The k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence models by Launder et al.(1977, LPS) and Leschziner and Rodi(1981, LR) are modified to account for the secondary straining effect with having a generality in the present paper. The modified models are obtained by replacing the gradient Richardson number used to account for the secondary straining effect in the original models by a new parameter with a tensor-invariant correction form. These two modified models are used to predict the turbulent flow over a backward-facing step. In contrast to both standard and modified LR models, the modified LPS model is found to predict the reattachment point fairy well, as well as mean velocity, wall static pressure, turbulent kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress in the recirculating region.

Catheters are used to measure translesional pressure gradients in the stenosed coronary arteries. Uses of catheters during coronary angioplasty cause flow obstructions. A narrowed flow cross section with catheter effectively introduced a tighter stenosis than the enlarged residual stenoses after balloon angiplasty. Catheters in blood vessels cause pressure gradient rise and blood flow drop during the measurements. In this study, three dimensional computer simulations are conducted to investigate the flow blockage effects due to the catheter obstructions during the coronary angioplasty. The computer simulation models are generated by the data, which are measured by coronary angiogram, and the blood is treated as non-Newtonian fluid. The velocity, pressure, and wall shear stress variations are observed for the estimate of damages of blood vessel. This study is also extended to investigate the effects of stenotic vessel size, and shape and catheter size and location.
Three-dimensional steady and pulsatile flows in an end-to-side anastomosis were investigated using a finite difference method in order to understand the flow dynamics in the preferential development of distal anastomotic intimal hyperplasia or thrombosis. Steady flow results revealed that a double helical vortex was formed in the host artery and flow recirculations near tow and heel regions were limited due to the secondary flow. Oscillating wall shear stress with significant secondary flow might be the flow dynamic reason of developing intimal hyperplasia or thrombosis.
Safety and efficiency in the construction of RC structures mainly depends on optimal operation of shore-slat systems. The disasters in RC construction are mainly due to excessive load applied to falsework and premature removal of supports. Development of sufficient compressive strength of early-age connote is essential for the safety of structures during construction. Most of studies on shore-slab interaction have focused on flat slab structures. In this study, load distributions in floor slabs and supports during the construction of shear wall-type RC apartment building structures is investigated using finite element analysis.

There have been many studies for the flow through internally finned tube, since the heat exchangers with fin device derive much attention in heat transfer enhance cent. In this study, analysis of laminar flow through the circular tube with longitudinal fins are investigated. The height and the number of fins are arbitrary. The flow field is assumed to be laminar and conformal mapping is used to obtain analytic solution. From the analytic solution, equi-velocity lines are shown, and the flow rate through the finned tube is calculated for various fin heights and numbers of fins. Darcy friction factor for this finned tube and shear stress distributions on the wall and fin are also considered.
