The pressurization system in a liquid rocket propulsion system provides a controlled gas pressure in the ullage space of the vehicle propellant tanks. It is advantage to employ a hot gas heat exchanger in the pressurization system to increase the specific volume of the pressurant and thereby reduce over-all system weight. Therefore a significant improvement in pressurization system performance can be achieved, particularly in a cryogenic system. For this study air and $CN_2$ are employed as external fluid and pressurant respectively Numerical analysis on the pressurant discharging characteristics have been compared with the experimental results performed at the PTF(Propellant-feeding Test Facility). It is shown that the discrepancy of analytic and experimental results is within about ${\pm}15%$. It is estimated that the temperature drop rate of cryogenic pressurant immersed liquid oxygen can be predicted using this analytic approach method.
The effect of ratio between chemical activating agent and raw material in the preparation of activated carbons from wood has been studied. Pinus koraiensis wood and zinc chloride ($ZnCl_2$) were used for materials in this study. Mixtures of wood and zinc chloride were heated under nitrogen flow in the temperature ranging from room-temperature to $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr using thermogravimetric technique. During heat treatment, activated carbons with various pore size and specific surface properties were obtained. The maximum BET surface area and total pore volume were $1468m^2/g$ and 1.74 cc/g, respectively, at the mixture ratio of 1 (wood powder) to 5 ($ZnCl_2$). It can be concluded that the differences in the properties of the activated carbons were related significantly with the ratio of chemical activating regent.
Due to its characteristics of light weight, high energy density, good safety, long service life, no memory effect, and environmental friendliness, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used in various portable electronic products. The capacity and performance of LIBs largely depend on the performance of electrode materials. Therefore, the development of better positive and negative materials is the focus of current research. The application of metal organic framework materials (MOFs) derivatives in energy storage has attracted much attention and research. Using MOFs as precursors, porous metal oxides and porous carbon materials with controllable structure can be obtained. In this paper, rod-shaped Co-MOF-74 was grown on Ni Foam (NF) by hydrothermal method, and then Co-MOF-74/NF precursor was heat-treated to obtain rodshaped Co3O4/NF. Ni Foam was skeleton structured, which effectively relieved. The change of internal stress changes and destroys the structural volume of the electrode material and reduces the capacity attenuation. Co3O4/NF composite material has a specific discharge capacity of up to 1858 mA h/g for the first time, and a reversible capacity of up to 902.4 mA h/g at a current density of 200 mA/g, and has excellent rate and impedance performance. The synthesis strategy reported in this article opens the way to design high-performance electrodes for energy storage and electrochemical catalysis.

In this study, water treatment sludge carbonized with $400^{\circ}C$ was tested as an adsorbent for the removal of Pb and Cd in water. The carbonized sludge was characterized by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), and surface area analysis. Carbonized sludge exhibited much higher specific surface area and total pore volume than water treatment sludge itself. In batch-type adsorption process, carbonized sludge represented better adsorption performance for Pb than Cd, achieving 90~98% at the concentrations conducted in the experiments. Equilibrium data of adsorption were analyzed using the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. It was seen that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms have correlation coefficient $R^2$ value larger than 0.95. The results of studies indicated that carbonized water treatment sludge by heat treatment could be used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of Pb and Cd from water.
The proteinase-activated receptor (PAR-2) belongs to the family of seven transmembrane region receptors, like the thrombin receptor, it is activated by specific proteolytic clea vage of its extracellular amino terminus and a synthetic peptide (SLIGRL). The earthworm protein fraction (EPF) extracted from Lumbricus rubellus elicted dose- and endothelium-dependent relaxations in phenylephrine-contracted rat thoracic aorta, whereas heat inactivated EPF (0.5 ${\mu}g$ /ml) had no effect. In the presence of the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor NG-methyl-L-arginine (1.8 micro M), EPF (0.5 ${\mu}g$ /ml)-induced relaxations were partially inhibited. Furthermore, EPF (0.5 ${\mu}g$ /ml) dramatically caused relaxation of thrombin-desenstized rat thoracic aorta. These results indicate that EPF activates PAR-2 in vascular endothelial cell. Intravenous injection of EPF (20 mg/kg, bolus) into anesthetized rats produced a marked depressor response. EPF (0 ~ 80 ${\mu}g$ /ml, gradient) was very effective on increasing of perfusion volume in rabbit ear vessel preparations. These results imply the usefulness of EPF as a vascular smooth muscle relaxant and indicate that the activation of PAR-2 may be a mechanism of EPF on hemokinetic improvement.

This paper describes some computational results of various energy and environmental systems using Patankar's SIMPLE method. The specific topics handled in this study are jet bubbling reactor for flue gas desulfurization, cyclone-type afterburner for incineration, 200m tall stack for 500 MW electric power generation, double skin and heat storage systems of building energy saving for the utilization of solar heating, finally turbulent combustion systems with liquid droplet or pulverized coal particle. A control-volume based finite-difference method with the power-law scheme is employed for discretization. The pressure-velocity coupling is resolved by the use of the revised version of SIMPLE, that is, SIMPLEC. Reynolds stresses are closed using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ and RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ models. Two-phase turbulent combustion of liquid drop or pulverized coal particle is modeled using locally-homogeneous, gas-phase, eddy breakup model. However simple approximate models are incorporated for the modeling of the second phase slip and retardation of ignition without consideration of any detailed particle behavior. Some important results are presented and discussed in a brief note. Especially, in order to make uniform exit flow for the jet bubbling reactor, a well-designed structure of distributor is needed. Further, the aspect ratio in the double skin system appears to be one of important factors to give rise to the visible change of the induced air flow rate. The computational tool employed in this study, in general, appears as a viable method for the design of various engineering system of interest.

In numerical analysis on the thermal performance of the heat exchanger with phase change fluids, the numerical values of thermodynamic properties are needed. But the steam table should be modeled properly as the direct use of thermodynamic properties of the steam table is impossible. In this study the function approximation characteristics of neural networks was used in modeling the saturated vapor region of refrigerant R12. The neural network consists of one input layer with one node, two hidden layers with 10 and 20 nodes each and one output layer with 7 nodes. Input can be both saturation temperature and saturation pressure and two cases were examined. The proposed model gives percentage error of ${\pm}$0.005% for enthalpy and entropy, ${\pm}$0.02% for specific volume and ${\pm}$0.02% for saturation pressure and saturation temperature except several points. From this results neural network could be a powerful method in function approximation of saturated vapor region of R12.

In numerically evaluating the thermal performance of the heat exchanger, numerical values of thermodynamic properties such as temperature, pressure, specific volume, enthalpy and entropy are required. But the steam table or diagram itself cannot be directly used without modelling. In this study the applicability of neural networks in modelling superheated water vapor was examined. The multi-layer neural networks consist of an input layer with 2 nodes, two hidden layers with 15 and 25 nodes respectively and an output layer with 3 nodes. Quadratic spline interpolation was also applied for comparison. Neural networks model revealed smaller percentage error compared with spline interpolation. From this result, it is confirmed that the neural networks could be a powerful method in modelling the superheated water vapor.

In this study, optimization was performed to improve the conventional liquefaction process of offshore plants, such as a LNG-FPSO(Liquefied Natural Gas-Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading unit) by maximizing the energy efficiency of the process. The major equipments of the liquefaction process are compressors, expanders, and heat exchangers. These are connected by stream which has some thermodynamic properties, such as the temperature, pressure, enthalpy or specific volume, and entropy. For this, a process design problem for the liquefaction process of offshore plants was mathematically formulated as an optimization problem. The minimization of the total energy requirement of the liquefaction process was used as an objective function. Governing equations and other equations derived from thermodynamic laws acted as constraints. To solve this problem, the sequential quadratic programming(SQP) method was used. To evaluate the proposed method in this study, it was applied to the natural gas liquefaction process of the LNG-FPSO. The result showed that the proposed method could present the improved liquefaction process minimizing the total energy requirement as compared to conventional process.

Both thermoplastic formability and electrical conductivity of Al-Ni-Y metallic glass with 12 different compositions have been investigated in the present study with an aim to apply as a functional material, i.e. as a binder of Ag powders in Ag paste for silicon solar cell. The thermoplastic formability is basically influenced by thermal stability and fragility of supercooled liquid which can be reflected by the temperature range for the supercooled liquid region (${\Delta}T_x$) and the difference in specific heat between the frozen glass state and the supercooled liquid state (${\Delta}C_p$). The measured ${\Delta}T_x$ and ${\Delta}C_p$ values show a strong composition dependence. However, the composition showing the highest ${\Delta}T_x$ and ${\Delta}C_p$ does not correspond to the composition with the highest amount of Ni and Y. It is considered that higher ${\Delta}T_x$ and ${\Delta}C_p$ may be related to enhancement of icosahedral SRO near $T_g$ during cooling. On the other hand, electrical resistivity varies with the change of Al contents as well as with the change of the volume fraction of each phase after crystallization. The composition range with the optimum combination of thermoplastic formability and electrical conductivity in Al-Ni-Y system located inside the composition triangle whose vertices compositions are $Al_{87}Ni_3Y_{10}$, $Al_{85}Ni_5Y_{10}$, and $Al_{86}Ni_5Y_9$.
