Caprylic/Capric triglyceride-in-water emulsions stabilized by Nikkol HCO-60 and HCO-10 were prepared using emulsion inversion point method at different HLB values. Emulsions with various droplet sizes were formed, and emulsion inversion point was detected by electrical conductivity. The change in emulsion droplet sizes and long term stability were monitored using laser scattering method and visual method. The droplet sizes and stability of emulsions were affected by HLB of surfactant. At emulsion inversion point, the water volume fraction increased as the HLB of surfactants decreased. According to our analysis, this resulted from a tendency of forming the W/O (water-in-oil) emulsion as the HLB of surfactants was decreased. The emulsion inversion point was clearly detected by the microscope and the electric conductivity meter. Nanometer-sized emulsion was obtained at the optimum HLB by using emulsion inversion point method. The main pattern of instability of emulsions in HLB 12 and 13 systems was Ostwald ripening. However, The patterns of instability of emulsions below 11 of HLB systems were Ostwald ripening and coalescence. All emulsions produced with surfactants in the range of HLB 8-13, creaming caused by density difference between water phase and oil phase.

We have investigated the influence of system composition and preparation conditions on the particle size of vitamin E acetate (VE)-loaded nanoemulsions prepared by PIC(phase inversion composition) emulsification. This method relies on the formation of very fine oil droplets when water is added to oil/surfactant mixture. The oil-to-emulsion ratio content was kept constant (5 wt.%) while the surfactant-to-oil ratio (%SOR) was varied from 50 to 200 %. Oil phase composition (vitamin E to medium chain ester ratio, %VOR) had an effect on particle size, with the smallest droplets being formed below 60 % of VOR. Food-grade non-ionic surfactants (Tween 80 and Span 80) were used as an emulsifier. The effect of f on the droplet size distribution has been studied. In our system, the droplet volume fraction, given by the oil volume fraction plus the surfactant volume fraction, was varied from 0.1 to 0.3. The droplet diameter remains less than 350 nm when O/S is fixed at 1:1. The droplet size increases gradually as the increasing the volume fraction. Particle size could also be reduced by increasing the temperature when water was added to oil/surfactant mixture. By optimizing system composition and homogenization conditions we were able to form VE-loaded nanoemulsions with small mean droplet diameters (d < 50 nm). The PIC emulsification method therefore has great potential for forming nanoemulsion-based delivery systems for food, personal care, and pharmaceutical applications.
To fit the limited volume and power consumption of the passive radio frequency transmission system of the electronic time fuze, an improved coded mark inversion (CMI) is proposed in this letter. From the performance analysis, the energy transmission efficiency of this encoding method is at least 50% higher than that of CMI and NRZ. Finally, the experiment results show that by adopting this improved CMI, the change of DC voltage through magnetic coupling is lower than 0.2 V when the accuracy of data transmission is above 99.5%.
The two-dimensional deformation of a homogeneous, isotropic thermoelastic half-space with voids with variable modulus of elasticity and thermal conductivity subjected to thermomechanical boundary conditions has been investigated. The formulation is applied to the coupled theory(CT) as well as generalized theories: Lord and Shulman theory with one relaxation time(LS), Green and Lindsay theory with two relaxation times(GL) Chandrasekharaiah and Tzou theory with dual phase lag(C-T) of thermoelasticity. The Laplace and Fourier transforms techniques are used to solve the problem. As an application, concentrated/uniformly distributed mechanical or thermal sources have been considered to illustrate the utility of the approach. The integral transforms have been inverted by using a numerical inversion technique to obtain the components of displacement, stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution in the physical domain. The effect of dependence of modulus of elasticity on the components of stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution are illustrated graphically for a specific model. Different special cases are also deduced.
The transient soot distributions within the region bounded by the droplet surface and the flame were measured using a full-filed light extinction technique and subsequent tomographic inversion using Abel transforms. The soot volume fraction results for n-heptane droplets represent the first quantitative assessment of the degree of sooting for isolated droplets burning under microgravity condition. The absence of buoyancy(which produces longer residence times) and the effects of thermophoresis produce a situation in which a significant concentration of soot is produced and accumulated into a soot-cloud. Results indicate that indeed the soot concentration within the microgravity droplet flames(with maximum soot volume fractions as high as ~60ppm) are significantly higher than corresponding values that are reports for normal-gravity flames. This increase in likely due to longer residence times and thermophoretic effects that manifested under microgravity conditions.
Well logging technologies are used to measure the physical properties of reservoirs through boreholes. These technologies have been utilized to understand reservoir characteristics, such as porosity, fluid saturation, etc., using equations based on rock physics models. The analysis of well logs is performed by selecting a reliable rock physics model adequate for reservoir conditions or characteristics, comparing the results using the Archie's equation or simandoux method, and determining the most feasible reservoir properties. In this study, we developed a joint inversion algorithm to estimate physical properties in shaly sandstone reservoirs based on the pre-existing algorithm for sandstone reservoirs. For this purpose, we proposed a rock physics model with respect to shale volume, constructed the Jacobian matrix, and performed the sensitivity analysis for understanding the relationship between well-logging data and rock properties. The joint inversion algorithm was implemented by adopting the least-squares method using probabilistic approach. The developed algorithm was applied to the well-logging data obtained from the Colony gas sandstone reservoir. The results were compared with the simandox method and the joint inversion algorithms of sand stone reservoirs.

Buoyancy-assisted melting of an unconstrained ice in an isothermally heated horizontal enclosure was numerically analyzed in a range of wall temperatures encompassing the density inversion point. The problem as posed here involves two physically distinct domains each of which has its own scales and respective heat transfer mode. These two domains join at the junction where the liquid squeezed out of the film region flushes into the lower melt pool. Both of these domains have been treated separately in the literature by a patching technique which invokes several, otherwise unnecessary, assumptions. The present study eliminates successfully such a superfluous procedure by treating the film and lower melt pool regions as a single domain. As a result of this efficient solution procedure, the interaction of the water stream ejected at the junction and the natural convection in the melt pool could be clarified for different wall temperatures. Though limited by two-dimensionality, the present results conformed indirectly the earlier reported transition of the flow pattern, as the wall temperature was increased over the density inversion point. The transient evolution of the melting surface, the time rate of change in melt volume fraction, the local and temporal variation of the heat transfer coefficients are analyzed and presented.

Polysulfone (PS) membranes were prepared by the phase inversion process using water or isopropanol as nonsolvent. The Flory-Huggins theory for a ternary system nonsolvent/solvent/polymer is applied to describe the thermodynamic equilibria of the components. The calculated ternary phase equilibria show that demixing of a PS binary solution with n-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) will be fast in a water coagulation bath and will be delayed in an isopropanol bath. The prepared membranes were characterized by SEM, gas adsorption-desorption measurement, and permeability test. The membrane, which is precipitated by fast demixing in a water bath, has nodular structures in the skin region and includes finger-like cavities in the sublayer. The membrane coagulated by isopropanol has a very dense and thick skin structure, which is formed by delayed demixing. The membrane coagulated by isopropanol showed considerably lower pore volume and surface area compared to that observed with water coagulation method. With dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent and 2-3 wt% of water, the solution can show the liquid-liquid phase separation due to agglomation of the polymer-lean phase from the homogeneous solution. The membranes, which were coagulated near an equilibrium state, show the large (micron size) round pores in the whole membranes. The pores do not contribute the permeation characteristics.
3D seismic tomography technique was assessed for applicability of developed 3D tomography algorithm based on Fresnel volume in the dam-planned area. Reconstructed 3D tomogram based on Fresnel volume and Fast Marching Method(FMM) reveals similar velocity structure to the other geotechnical survey results. With the correlation analysis between RMR data and seismic velocity information, it could provide reliable information of rock mass rate. The applicability of 3D seismic tomography was verified in this study. It would be expected to apply 3D tomography with new developed first arrival calculation and inversion algorithm to the engineering field economically.

The temporal and spatial distributions of soot volume fractions were measured for single toluene droplet flames as a function of pressure under the normal-gravity condition. In order to characterize the transient nature of the flame and sooting regions, a full-field light extinction and subsequent tomographic inversion technique was used. The reduction in sooting as a function of pressure was assessed by comparison of the maximum soot volume fractions at several vertical positions along the axis above the droplet. The maximum soot volume fraction was reduced by 70% when the pressure was reduced by 60% from 1 atm to 0.4 atm. The reduction in sooting is attributed to variation of the geometric configuration of flame which reduces the system Grashof number as well as only the change in the adiabatic flame temperature as the pressure decreases. The gravimetrically-measured total soot yield was also compared to the optically-measured soot volume fraction to obtain a correlation between the two measurements. As a result, the total soot yield was linearly proportional to the optically-measured maximum soot volume fraction and linearly reduced as the pressure decreased. Accordingly, the non-intrusive full-field light extinction-measurements were able to be calibrated not only to measure soot volume fraction, but to simultaneously evaluate the total soot yield emitted from the toluene droplet flame (which is useful in the practical application).
