This study proposes a new topology for the performance test of a valve consisting of a modular multilevel converter (MMC)-based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). The conventional valve performance test equipment requires high-voltage AC source of several kV rating because the number of submodules to be tested in a valve should be at least six or eight. However, the power source of the proposed scheme is DC and not AC source. The DC power source voltage range of the proposed test circuit is from several volts to several tens of volts. Therefore, the size and cost for the performance test equipment can be reduced considerably compared with the conventional method. The proposed scheme satisfies the requirements of the IEC 62927 standard. Simulations are conducted for a valve of 50[MVA] MMC-based STATCOM. Experimental results with a scale-downed setup show the validity of the proposed performance test topology.
This paper presents experimental results on the safety of persons due to a ground fault in 22.9 kV-Y distribution system In order to evaluate the touch voltages due to internal ground faults in a step down transformer based on the newly prescribed KS C IEC 60364 standard series, the verification tests in a 22.9 kV multi-grounded neutral system were carried out From the experimental results, it was found that there will be significant potential rise jeopardizing LV equipment insulation in case of separate grounding between HV and LV system and the effective measures against hazardous touch voltages due to a IN side ground fault in the common grounding system between HV and LV system are proposed. As a consequence, it was found that the equipotential bonding is an important prerequisite for the effectiveness of the protective measures for the safety of persons in the common ground system between 22.9 kV-Y and low-voltage grounding system.
In the study the affect of $SiO_$ depending on the characteristics of break-down, we have experimented the break-down for the $SiO_$ and variable temperature change after mading nano $SiO_$ of the diameter 12 [nm] at the epoxy resin. As the experimental results, we have continued that the break-down strength is increased at the adding change but the break-down strength is decreased again as the 0.4 [wt%] standard. Also, the break-down voltage is not changed at 25, 50 [$^{\circ}C$] as the temperate change. But break-down voltage is largely changed when temperate is rising up.
HTS power transmission cable is expected to transport large electric power with a compact size. We are developing a 3-core, 22.9 kV, 50 MVA class HTS power cable, and each core consists of a conductor and shield wound with Bi-2223 tapes, electrical insulation with laminated polypropylene paper (LPP) impregnated with liquid nitrogen. This paper describes the design and experimental results of the model cable for the 22.9 kV, 50 MVA class HTS power transmission cable. The model cable was used the SUS tapes instead of HTS tapes because of testing the electrical characteristics only. The model cable was 1.3 m long and electrical insulation thickness was 4.5 mm. The model cable was evaluated the partial discharge (PD), AC and Impulse withstand voltage in liquid nitrogen. The AC and Impulse withstands voltage and PD inception stress was satisfied with the standard of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in the test results. The 3-core 22.9 kV, 50 MVA class HTS power cable has been designed and manufactured based on these experimental results.

This paper describes experiments aimed at characterizing the behavior of field electron emitters fabricated by coating carbon fibers with epoxylite resin. Polyacrylonitrile carbon fibers of type VPR-19, thermally treated at $2,800^{\circ}C$, were used. Each was initially prepared in a "uncoated" state, by standard electro polishing and cleaning techniques, and was then examined in a scanning electron microscope. The fiber was then baked overnight in a field electron microscope (FEM) vacuum chamber. Current-voltage characteristics and FEM images were recorded on the following day or later. The fiber was then removed from the FEM, coated with resin, "cured" by baking, and replaced in the FEM. After another overnight bake, the FEM characterization measurements were repeated. The coated fibers had significantly better performance than uncoated fibers. This confirms the results of earlier experiments, and is thought to be due in part to the formation of a conducting channel in the resin over layer. For the coated fiber, lower voltages were needed to obtain the same emission current. The coated fibers have current-voltage characteristics that show smoother trends, with greater stability and repeatability. No switch-on phenomena were observed. In addition, the emission images on the phosphor-coated FEM screen were more concentrated, and hence brighter.
VLF $tan{\delta}$ diagnosis technology is introduced in IEEE Std 400 and proposed as evaluation criterion in an effective way of detecting water tree which mainly causes the failure of XLPE insulated cables. In order to inspect the accuracy of the VLF $tan{\delta}$ method for XLPE insulated power cables in Korean distribution system, diagnosis for 41 cables which were being serviced in the fields has been carried out and they were removed for AC breakdown voltage test after. Regarding the 41 cables, it was hard to confirm any relation between the VLF $tan{\delta}$ values and AC breakdown voltages and also water tree in the insulation was not detected. However, the other cables were failed several days after the diagnosis of the 41 cables. Water trees were found and their VLF $tan{\delta}$ values were also much higher than the criterion of IEEE standard. It has been ascertained that we need to change the IEEE criteria in order to improve the accuracy of detecting water trees by additional analyzing of field examples of failure and case studies from overseas countries and therefore amended VLF $tan{\delta}$ test voltage and evaluation criteria have been proposed.
In this paper, protective function evaluation was conducted to determine the performance and safety of a power conditioning system(PCS) for 1kW residential fuel cell system. It is essential to have a power quality, grid-connection and safety of PCS. Even though it is under 500ms by KGS-A410 standard, it is shown a rapid response time of 25ms from input under-voltage test. In terms of output over/under-voltage test, it is shown 29.15 and 79.4ms. Especially using anti-islanding test, it is shown all times under 100ms for combination cases of real and reactive power. We confirmed a rapid response characteristics and safety of PCS. The results of this evaluation are being used to develop a new test protocols of PCS.
In case when the existing TRIAC phase controlled dimmer is drove for the LED lighting equipments, there are many problems such as the LED flicker in low phase-angles, the acoustic noise and elements damage by increase of the peak voltage in the input filter capacitor, mulfunction by insufficiency of the TRIAC holding current, and the abnormal oscillation by LC resonant. In this paper, we proposes the single-stage quasi-resonant PSR(Primary Side Regulation) PWM converter, and the design, the simulation and experiment are performed. As a result, it could confirm that the proposed PWM converter is the lighting equipments for LED drive which can alternate the existing 60W class incandescent bulbs and it has the high drive performance of the efficiency 80% and over, the power factor 0.95 and over under the normal voltage 220V. Finally, total harmonic distortion(THD) is gratified with a standard[1] of the lighting equipments and the durability is evaluated as the high reliablilty of 150,000 hours and over.
