EBeam-촉매 Coupling을 이용한 톨루엔 제어 특성 연구 (Removal Efficiency Of Toluene by EBeam-Catalyst Coupling System)

  • An EBeam (electron beam)-catalyst coupling technique has been developed to control aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by annexing the catalyst with already existing EBeam technology. In this study, toluene emitted from various industrial coating processes was selected as a representative VOC. The concentration of toluene of concern was 200 ppm. There was an increase in the removal efficieny of toluene by increasing the absorbed dose (kGy) in the EBeam-only and the EBeam-catalyst coupling systems. Compared to EBeam-only system under the same existing EBeam-Pt $1\%$ coupling conditions, EBeam-Pt $1\%$ coupling system revealed 36, 29, 30$\%$ increase in toluene treatmenet at (5, 6.7, 8.7 kGy), respectively. In addition, $O_{3}$ was decreased and CO, $CO_{2}$ were increased by increasing the absorbed dose (kGy) in the EBeam-catalyst (Pt $1\%$, Cu $1\%$) coupling systems. Therefore, it was concluded that the EBeam-catalyst coupling system had a synergy effect on toluene control, compared to the EBeam-only system.

Essential Oil Prepared from Cymbopogon citrates Exerted an Antimicrobial Activity Against Plant Pathogenic and Medical Microorganisms

  • Essential oils are mixtures of volatile, lipophilic compounds originating from plants. Some essential oils have useful biological activities including antimicrobial, spasmolytic, antiplasmodial, and insect-repelling activities. In this study, we tested the antimicrobial activity of essential oil prepared from the aromatic plant, Cymbopogon citrates, against three important plant pathogenic and medical microorganisms, Pectobacterium carotovorum, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and Aspergillus niger. It effectively inhibited the growth of the bacterium, Pectobacterium carotovorum, in a dose-dependent fashion, and 0.5% of the oil inhibited the growth of bacteria completely. Similarly, the essential oil inhibited the growth of plant pathogenic fungus, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and the addition of 1% of essential oil completely inhibited the growth of fungus even after 5 days of culture. Finally, it effectively inhibited the growth of the medically and industrially important fungal species, Aspergillus spp. These results suggest that the essential oil from Cymbopogon citrates may be an environmentally safe alternative to inhibit antimicrobial agents for various uses.

Effective Local Exhaust Ventilation on Cooking Fumes of Seasoned Meats

  • This study identified the fumes produced from the cooking of the seasoned meats containing various condiments such as garlic, onion, pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Concentrations, at the breathing zone of the cook, of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and aldehydes included in the cooking fumes of seasoned meats were identified. Many chloro- and fluoro-aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, and aldehydes, which could be carcinogen suspecting chemicals, were producing from the cooking fumes of the seasoned meats. This study also identified the ventilation efficiencies of the cooking fumes of the six exhaust ventilation systems, which were widely being used in the general apartments, houses, and small-food factories. For a comparison of the ventilation efficiencies of the systems, acetaldehyde was chosen as a marker pollutant and its concentrations at the breathing zone of the cook were identified. The laboratory fume hood showed the best ventilation efficiency of the six ventilation systems studied, and then the lateral hood ventilation and the down draft ventilation followed the laboratory fume hood. Finally, this study identified that both a wall factor nearby pollutant sources and a distance factor between the hood face and pollutant sources should be also considered for an effective local exhaust ventilation system design.

  • 환경오염은 인간의 건강, 삶의 질 또는 생태계의 자연적 기능을 방해하는 물질로 지구 환경을 오염시키는 것으로 정의된다. 환경 스트레스 요인에 장기간 반복적으로 노출되면 피부의 정상적인 방어 잠재력을 초과할 때마다 피부 장벽 기능에 장애가 생겨 다양한 피부 질환이 발병하게 된다. 피부에 영향을 미치는 주요 대기오염물질은 다환 방향족 탄화수소, 휘발성 유기화합물, 질소산화물, 미세먼지, 담배 연기, 중금속, 비소 등이다. 이들 물질의 피부 흡수는 피부 표면의 대기오염물질의 침적, 표피 지질 구성, 표피를 통한 혈관 확산에 의해 이루어진다.

The Measurement of Flash Point for Binary Mixtures of 2,2,4-Trimethylpentane, Methylcyclohexane, Ethylbenzene and p-xylene at 101.3 kPa

  • Laboratories and industrial processes typically involve the use of flammable substances. An important property used to estimate fire and explosion risk for a flammable liquid is the flash point. In this study, flash point data at 101.3 kPa were determined using a SETA closed cup flash point tester on the following solvent mixtures: {2,2,4-trimethylpentane + methylcyclohexane}, {2,2,4-trimethylpentane + ethylbenzene}, and {2,2,4-trimethylpentane + p-xylene}. The purpose of this work is to obtain flash point data for binary mixtures of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane with three hydrocarbons (methylcyclohexane, ethylbenzene, and p-xylene), which are representative compounds of the main aromatic hydrocarbon fractions of petroleum. The measured flash points are compared with the predicted values calculated using the GE models' activity coefficient patterns: the Wilson, the Non-Random Two-Liquid (NRTL), and the UNIversal QUAsiChemical (UNIQUAC) models. The non-ideality of the mixture is also considered. The average absolute deviation between the predicted and measured lower flash point s is less than 1.99 K, except when Raoult's law is calculated. In addition, the minimum flash point behavior is not observed in any of the three binary systems. This work's predicted results can be applied to design safe petrochemical processes, such as identifying safe storage conditions for non-ideal solutions containing volatile components.

불소계 폴리실록산이미드 공중합체막을 이용한 저농도 Dichloromethane 수용액의 투과증발 (Pervaporation Separation of Trace Dicholoromethane from Water Using Fluorinated Polysiloxaneimide do Membranes)

  • 본 연구는 불소계 폴리실록산이미드 공중합체 막을 이용하여 휘발성 유기 화합물(Volatile Organic Compounds; VOCs)의 일종인 dichloromethane(DCM)을 물로부터 투과증발 분리하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 유연한 사슬을 갖는 diamine-terminated polydimethylsiloxane(SIDA)과 경직된 구조를 갖는 불소계 방향족 디아민 단량체(2-(perfluorohexyl)ethyl-3,5-diaminobenzene PFDAB)과 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride(6FDA)를 이용하여 일련의 소수성 불소계 폴리실록산이미드 공중합체 막을 제조하여 다이아민의 구성성분에 따른 분리능의 변화를 상온에서 관찰하였다. 공중합체 막 내의 다이아민 성분 중 SIDA의 함량은 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 mol%로 조절되었으며, 원액의 조성은 DCM 0.05 wt%를 사용하였다. 소수성이 높고 자유부피가 큰 SIDA의 함량이 증가함에 따라 소수성 용매인 DCM의 수착도 및 수착선택도가 증가하는 경향을 나타내었으며, 확산계수 및 확산선택도 또한 증가하여 궁극적으로는 투과플럭스와 투과선택도가 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

환경대기 중 저분자 PAHs 측정을 위한 흡착-열탈착-GC/MS 방법의 적용 (Application of Adsorption Sampling and Thermal Desorption with GC/MS Analysis for the Measurement of Low-Molecular Weight PAHs in Ambient Air)

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been of particular concern since they are present both in the vapor and particulate phases in ambient air. In this study, a simple method was applied to determine the vapor phase PAHs, and the performance of the new method was evaluated with a conventional method. The simple method was based on adsorption sampling and thermal desorption with GC/MS analysis, which is generally applied to the determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air. A combination of Carbotrap (300 mg) and Carbotrap-C (100 mg) sorbents was used as the adsorbent. Target compounds included two rings PAHs such as naphthalene, acenaphthylene, and acenaphthene. Among them, naphthalene was listed as one of the main HAPs together with a number of VOCs in petroleum refining industries in the USA. For comparison purposes, a method based on adsorption sampling and solvent extraction with GC/MS analysis was adopted, which is in principle same as the NIOSH 5515 method. The performance of the adsorption sampling and thermal desorption method was evaluated with respect to repeatabilities, detection limits, linearities, and storage stabilities for target compounds. The analytical repeatabilities of standard samples are all within 20%. Lower detection limits was estimated to be less than 0.1 ppbv. In the results from comparison studies between two methods for real air samples. Although the correlation coefficients were more than 0.9, a systematic difference between the two groups was revealed by the paired t-test (${\alpha}$=0.05). Concentrations of two-rings PAHs determined by adsorption and thermal desorption method consistently higher than those by solvent extraction method. The difference was caused by not only the poor sampling efficiencies of XAD-2 for target PAHs and but also sample losses during the solvent extraction and concentration procedure. This implies that the levels of lower molecular PAHs tend to be underestimated when determined by a conventional PAH method utilizing XAD-2 (and/or PUF) sampling and solvent extraction method. The adsorption sampling and thermal desorption with GC analysis is very simple, rapid, and reliable for lower-molecular weight PAHs. In addition, the method can be used for the measurement of VOCs in the air simultaneously. Therefore, we recommend that the determination of naphthalene, the most volatile PAH, will be better when it is measured by a VOC method instead of a conventional PAH method from a viewpoint of accuracy.

탄소흡착제에 의한 삼성분계 휘발성 유기화합물의 흡착특성 (Adsorption Characteristics of Three-components Volatile Organic Compounds on Activated Carbonaceous Adsorbents)

  • 본 연구에서는 휘발성 유기화합물 중 산업공정에서 사용빈도가 가장 높은 방향족류의 toluene, 케톤류의 MEK, 알코올류의 IPA에 의한 삼성분계 휘발성 유기화합물의 탄소계 흡착제에 대한 흡착특성 실험을 수행하였다. 입상 활성탄, 활성탄소섬유를 이용한 단일흡착제와 입상 활성탄과 활성탄소섬유를 동시에 적용한 조합흡착제를 사용하여 흡착성능과 흡착량을 비교 분석하였다. 실험용 흡착장치를 사용하여 단일성분 및 삼성분계 휘발성 유기화합물에 대한 흡착파과 실험을 수행하였으며, 각 경우에 대해 흡착량과 흡착성능을 비교하였다. 입상 활성탄은 toluene의 단일흡착 시 높은 흡착성능을 보였으나, IPA, MEK의 단일성분과 삼성분계 흡착실험에서는 상대적으로 낮은 성능을 보였다. 활성탄소섬유와 조합흡착제는 단일성분 흡착결과에서 모두 우수한 흡착성능을 보였으나, 삼성분계 흡착의 경우에는 흡착제의 경제성과 흡착효율을 고려하였을 때 입상 활성탄과 활성탄소섬유를 동시에 적용한 조합흡착제가 흡착제로서 가장 적합함을 확인할 수 있었다.

곰취속 몇몇 종의 내적 품질과 휘발성 향기성분과 비교 (Comparison of Internal Quality and Volatile Aromatic Compounds in Several Ligularia spp.)

  • 새로운 농가 소득 작물로서 곰취 신품종 육성을 위한 기초자료를 얻기 위하여, 두 곰취(적곰취와 달곰)와 기존 재배종 곰취에 대한 향기 성분과 총페놀함량, DPPH 활성, 비타민 C 함량을 분석하였다. 생체중 100g 당 총페놀함량은 재배종(137.29mg) 보다 적곰취(158.40mg)와 달곰(180.82mg)에서 현저히 높았다. DPPH 활성은 재배종(74.45%)과 적곰취(75.59%)보다 달곰(86.26%)에서 다소 높았다. 비타민 C 함량은 재배종과 적곰취 보다 달곰(1.81mg)에서 다소 높았다. 향기 성분인 정유 함량은 재배종에 비하여 적곰취(0.164%), 달곰(0.290%)에서 유의하게 높았다. GC/MSD 분석의 결과 주요 물질은 재배종 곰취 43종, 적곰취 44종, 달곰 31종이 동정되었으며, N 함유 화합물은 달곰에서만 검출되었다. 향취를 나타내는 주요 6종의 향기 성분 (a-pinene, ${\beta}$-pinene, ${\beta}$-phellandrene, a-phellandrene, 3-carene, limonene) 함량은 재배종에 비하여 적곰취가 높았으며, 달곰은 상대적으로 낮았다. 특히 달곰은 총페놀함량, DPPH 활성, 비타민 C 함량, 정유함량 등에서 재배종 및 적곰취보다 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타나, 우수한 특성을 기진 것으로 판단되었다.

이식시기(移植時期)가 향초(香草)(Nicotiana tabacum L.)의 향끽미(香喫味) 물질(物質) 발현(發現)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effect of Transplanting Times on the Content of Aromatic Substances in Tobacco Cultivar, Hyangcho)

  • 우리 나라 재래종중(在來種中) 내용성분(內容成分) 면(面)에서 바람직한 향끽미(香喫味) 물질(物質)을 함유(含有)하고 있는 것으로 알려진 향초(香草)를 대상(對象)으로 이식시기(移植時期)가 향끽미(香喫味) 물질(物質)에 미친 영향(影響)을 구명(究明)하여 얻어진 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 전(全)알카로이드 함량(含量)은 7월(月) 5일(日) 이식구(移植區)가 4.16%로 가장 높고 5월(月) 20일(日) 이식구(移植區)는 1.37%로 가장 낮았으며, 니코틴 함량(含量)은 전(全)알카로이드 함량(含量)과 같은 경향(傾向)을 보였다. 전당(全糖) 함량(含量)은 4월(月) 20일(日) 이식구(移植區)가 12%로 가장 높았고 이것보다 이식(移植)이 빠르거나 늦을 수록 감소(減少)되는 경향(傾向)이었다. 석유(石油)에텔추출물(抽出物)은 4월(月) 5일(日) 이식구(移植區)가 5.77%로 가장 높았고 이식시기(移植時期)가 늦을 수록 감소(減少)하였다. 전당(全糖) 석유(石油)에텔추출물(抽出物) 전질소(全窒素)는 4월(月) 20일(日) 이식구(移植區)에서 가장 높았으며 이식시기(移植時期)가 빠를 수록 지방산(脂肪酸), malic산(酸)과 citric산(酸) 함량(含量)은 감소(減少)되었다. 이식시기(移植時期)가 빠를 수록 2.3-methylbutanoic산(酸), 3-methylpentanoic산(酸)의 함량(含量)이 증가(增加)되었다.
