  • This study is performed to examine physical and mechanical properties or neutralization treatment point and curing methods of ECO-cencrete using rice straw ash. Tests for void ratio, compressive and bending strength with neutralization treatment point and curing methods are performed. The test result shows that the void ratio is decreased with increasing content of rice straw ash. But, the compressive and bending strength is increased with increasing content of rice straw ash. The greatest strength is appeared when neutralization is treated at the curing age of 6 days.

  • Permeable polymer concretes can be applied to roads, sidewalks, river embankment, drain pipes, conduits, retaining walls, yards, parking lots, plazas, interlocking blocks, etc. This study was to explore a possibility of using bottom ash as filler and recycled coarse aggregate of industrial by-products for permeable polymer concrete. The tests carried out at $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and $60{\pm}2%$ relative humidity. At 7 days of curing, unit weight, void ratio, compressive and flexural strength and coefficient of permeability ranged between $1,652{\sim}1,828kgf/m^{3},\;15{\sim}29+%,\;18.2{\sim}24.5\;MPa,\;6.4{\sim}8.4\;MPa\;and\;6.8{\times}10^{-2}{\sim}1.7{\times}10^{-1}\;cm/s$, respectively. It was concluded that the bottom ash and recycled coarse .aggregate can be used in the permeable polymer concrete.

  • In this paper, utilizing void ratio-effective stress and void ratio-permeability relationships, a system of two nonlinear partial differential equations is derived to predict the consolidation characteristics of normally consolidated (NC) and overconsolidated (OC) soft clays subjected to cyclic loading. A developed feature of the coefficient of consolidation containing two key parameters is emerged from the differential equations. Effect of these parameters on the consolidation characteristics of soft clays is analytically discussed. It is shown that the ratios between the slopes of e-$log{\sigma}^{\prime}$ and e-log k lines in the NC and OC states play a major role in the consolidation process. In the companion paper, the critical assumptions made in the analytical discussion are experimentally verified and a numerical study is carried out in order to examine the proposed theory.

  • The results of an experimental program regarding the effects of gradation on shear strength and volume change behavior of silty sands are presented. Consolidated drained direct shear tests were performed on two clean base sands and twelve silty sands obtained by mixing those base sands with two different non-plastic silts at various fines contents (${\leq}$ 25%). Drained shear strengths were observed to be not significantly influenced by either base sand gradation or silt gradation or fines content for the studied range. Increasing fines content has increased the volumetric contraction of specimens at similar void ratio. However, the amount of increase in volumetric contraction of silty sands were found to be affected by silt gradation when other influencing factors such as fines content, base sand gradation and mineralogy were kept the same. Moreover, the amount of increase in volumetric contraction of silty sands were also found to be affected by base sand gradation when other influencing factors such as fines content, silt gradation and mineralogy were kept the same.

  • The object of this experiment is to find out some flow characteristics of water through sand layer, to prevent moving sands in the filters of the fill Dam, infiltration gallery, well and Deversion Weir. This experiment was accomplished with different particle Sizes of Six Samples and different hydraulic gradient. The results obtained are Summarized as follows. 1. The critical hydraulic gradients for laminar flow was found to be between 1 and 2 when the sand used had the effective diameter, D10 of between 0.18cm and 0.45cm. 2. The critical hydraulic gradients for different particle sizes of sands were varied considerably. 3. There was a negative correlation between critical hydraulic gradient and critical Velocity, and between effective particle diameter D10 and critical hydraulic gradient respectively. 4. In spite of relatively small variation of void ratio of sands used, the values of the coefficient of permeability varied considerably. There was a negative correlation between coefficient of permeability and void ratio.

  • A geo-composite soil (GCS) is a stabilized mixture of bottom ash, cement and dredged soil. Various samples with different mass ratios of mixtures were tested under curing time of 7 and 28 days to investigate physical properties and compressive strength. This paper focused on the effect of bottom ash on the strength characteristics of Busan marine dredged soil. Cement has been added as an additive constituent to enhance self-hardening of the blended mixture. The unconfined compressive strength of GCS increases with an increase in curing time due to pozzolanic reaction of the bottom ash. The strength after 28 days of curing is found to be approximately 1.3 to 2.0 times the strength after 7 days of curing, regardless of mixture conditions. The secant modulus of GCS is in the range of 55 to 134 times the unconfined compressive strength. The correlation of unconfined compressive strength with bottom ash content and initial void ratio are suggested.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the influence the influence of theoretical void ratio(T.V.R), grading of aggregate and curing method on the strength and water permeability of porous concrete, and the reduction proportion of water permeability by these factors. The results of the study showed that its strength and water permeability were greatly depended on the T.V.R and grading of aggregate, but didn't on the curing method. And, when the T.V.R and grading of aggregate were increased, the reduction proportion of water permeability was small. As the relation ship between its physical properties and non-destruction test values was very high, its use for the estimation of the physical properties will be useful.

  • The void ratio, continuous void ratio, coefficient of permeability, compressive strength and tensile strength were considered according to the EAF(Electric Arc Furnace) slag replacement and sand percentage in permeable concrete used with EAF slag as aggregate. The sand percentage was directly proportional to the permeable coefficient, but inversely proportional to the compressive strength. When the compressive strength and coefficient of permeability were 230 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 1$\times$$10^{-1}$ cm/sec, the useful sand percentage was 8%. When the EAF slag replacement was 25%, the coefficient of permeability was the most low and compressive strength was the most high.

  • Case records comprising the results of down-hole seismic surveys collected at nine sites worldwide, together with comparative results of laboratory bender element tests on reconstituted clay samples, were examined in an attempt to quantify the shear modulus of normally consolidated clays at very small strain of the order of 0.001%. The shear modulus G$_{max}$ under the current state of stresses is given in a formula which includes a newly proposed void ratio function. An empirical expression incorporating the new void ratio function is also proposed for practical use in estimating G$_{max}$ profiles with depth in natural soil deposits from routinely available borehole data.ata.

  • The concrete with continuous voids (No Fine Concrete ; NFC) is the new planting material which may be used for stabilizing the sandy slope of river or road sides. The components of NFC are mainly coarse aggregate and low alkali cement paste, so to speak fine aggregate is not used. This report shows the fundamental properties of NFC, such as continous void ratio, compressive strength, permeability. As experimental results we can get the good quality of NFC, that is about 28% continuous void ratio, about 120kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength and high flowable permeability. And also planting grass and garden portulaca on the concrete with continuous voids is resulted in success.
