To address the increase of weather hazards and the emergence of new types of such hazards, an optimization technique for three-dimensional (3D) representation of meteorological facts and atmospheric information was examined in this study as a novel method for weather analysis. The proposed system is termed as "meteorological and air quality information visualization engine" (MAIVE), and it can support several file formats and can implement high-resolution 3D terrain by employing a 30 m resolution digital elevation model. In this study, latest 3D representation techniques such as wind vector fields, contour maps, stream vector, stream line flow along the wind field and 3D volume rendering were applied. Implementation of the examples demonstrates that the results of numerical modeling are well reflected, and new representation techniques can facilitate the observation of meteorological factors and atmospheric information from different perspectives.
In computer forensics investigation, the investigators collect, protect, analyze and interpret massive amount of data which were used in cyber crime. However, due to its huge amount of information, it takes a great deal of time and errors often result even when they use forensics investigation tool in the process. The information visualization techniques will greatly help to improve the information processing ability of human when they deal with the overwhelming amount of data and have to find out significant information in it. The importance of Intrusion Detection System(IDS) among network forensics is being emphasized in computer forensics. In this study, we apply the information visualization techniques which are proposed to be a great help to IDS and carry out the usability test to find out the most effective information visualization techniques for IDS.
The turbulent flow around a sphere was investigated in a streamwise meridian plane using two experimental techniques: smoke-wire flow visualization in wind tunnel at Re=5,300 and PIV measurements in a circulating water channel at Re=7,400. The smoke-wire visualization shows flow separation points near an azimuthal angle of $90^{\circ}$, recirculating flow, transition from laminar to turbulent shear layer, evolving vortex roll-up and fully turbulent eddies in the sphere wake. In addition, the mean flow pattern extracted by particle tracing method in water tunnel at Re= 14,500 reveals two distinct comparable toroidal(not closed) vortices in the recirculation region. The mean velocity field measured using a PIV technique demonstrates the detailed wake configuration of close symmetric recirculation and near-wake configuration with two toroidal vortices, reversed velocity zone and vorticity contours.

Flow visualization is one of visualization techniques and it means a visual expression of vector data using 2D or 3D graphics. It aims for human to easily find and understand a special feature of the vector data. The Image Based Flow Visualization (IBFV) is one of the fastest technique in the dense integration based flow visualization techniques. In this paper, IBFV is accelerated and implemented using commodity GPU. Especially, mesh advection is accelerated at the vertex program.
The purpose of this visualization study is to investigate the effect of reduced frequency qualitatively by examining wake patterns for dragonfly flight motion. Dragonflies have two pairs of wing (a forewing and hindwing) and flight is achieved by a pitching and plunging, so it makes a separation over the wings. The separation affects the wake pattern and changed wake pattern has an influence on lift, drag, and propulsion. This experiment was conducted by using a smoke wire technique and a camera fixed above the test section used to take a photograph of the wake. An electronic device is mounted below the test section to find the exact mean positional angle of the wing. The reduced frequency in the experiment is 0.15, 0.3 and 0.45. Results show that reduced frequency is closely related to the wake pattern that determines flight efficiency.

Noise from the surrounding environment, building structures and machine equipment have significant effects on daily life. Many solutions to this problem have been suggested by analyzing causes of noise generated from particular locations in general buildings or machine equipment and detecting defects of buildings or equipment. Therefore, this paper suggests a visualization technique of sounds by using the microphone array to measure sound sources from machines and perform the visual machine condition monitoring (VMCM). By analyzing sound signals and presenting effective sound visualization methods, it can be applied to identify machine's conditions and correct errors through real-time monitoring and visualization of noise generated from the plant machine equipment.
The liquid fuel film on the cylinder liner is believed to be a major source of engine-out hydrocarbon emissions in SI engines, especially during cold start and warm-up period. Quantifying the liquid fuel film on the cylinder liner is essential to understand the engine-out hydrocarbon emissions formation in SI engines. In this research, two-dimensional visualization was carried out to quantify liquid fuel film on the quartz liner in an SI engine test rig. The visualization was based on laser-induced fluorescence and total reflection. Using a quartz liner and a special lens, only the liquid fuel on the liner was visualized. The calibration technique was developed to quantify the fluorescence signal with the thickness gage and the calibration device. The fluorescence intensity increases linearly with increase in the fuel film thickness on the quartz liner. Using this technique, the distribution of the fuel film thickness on the cylinder liner was measured quantitatively for different valve lifts and injected fuel mass in the test rig.
Interaction between fluid and a rigid object is frequently observed in everyday life. However, it is difficult to simulate their interaction as the medium and the object have different representations. One of the challenging issues arises especially in handling deformation of the object visually as well as rendering haptic feedback. In this paper, we propose a real-time simulation technique for multimodal interaction between particle-based fluids and soluble solids. We have developed the dissolution behavior model of solids, which is discretized based on the idea of smoothed particle hydrodynamics, and the changes in physical properties accompanying dissolution is immediately reflected to the object. The user is allowed to intervene in the simulation environment anytime by manipulating the solid object, where both visual and haptic feedback are delivered to the user on the fly. For immersive visualization, we also adopt the screen space fluid rendering technique which can balance realism and performance.
Accurate tissue temperature monitoring during clinical procedures, such as laser therapy or surgery, is crucial for ensuring patient safety and treatment efficacy. Noninvasive techniques are essential to prevent tissue disturbance while providing real-time temperature data. However, current methods often struggle to accurately measure temperature at various depths within the skin, which is essential to avoid damage to surrounding healthy tissues due to excessive heat. In response to this challenge, we developed a confocal imaging system that utilizes the laser speckle imaging (LSI) technique for precise depthwise temperature monitoring. LSI uses laser light scattering to capture subtle changes in speckle patterns on the skin's surface due to temperature fluctuations within the tissue. By analyzing these changes, LSI enables accurate depth-resolved temperature measurements. This technique enhances the precision and safety of medical procedures, offering significant potential for broader clinical applications, improved patient outcomes, and better thermal management during interventions.

It is important for effective visualization to summarize not only a large amount of debugging information but also the mental models of abstract ideas. This paper presents an abstract visualization tool which provides effective visualization of thread structure and race information for OpenMP programs with critical sections and nested parallelism, using a partial order execution graph which captures logical concurrency among threads. This tool is supported by an on-the-fly trace-filtering technique to reduce space complexity of visualization information, and a graph abstraction technique to reduce visual complexity of nested parallelism and critical sections in the filtered trace. The graph abstraction of partial-order relation and race information is effective for understanding program execution and detecting to eliminate races, because the user can examine control flow of program and locations of races in a structural fashion.
