Visual illusion strength in static and dynamic figures

  • The paper concerns with the visual illusion strength for the static and dynamic figures which are generated on computer CRT. The Vertical-Horizontal, Ponzo, and Muller-Lyer illusion are studied under various conditions of type, size, and background angle of figure. And the results are obtained through the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). This paper concludes that the size and background angle of figure generally effect on the visual illusion, and there is a significant difference between figure types. These results can be applied to eliminate the visual illusion in real design.

Perceived Dark Rim Artifact in First-Pass Myocardial Perfusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging Due to Visual Illusion

  • Objective: To demonstrate that human visual illusion can contribute to sub-endocardial dark rim artifact in contrast-enhanced myocardial perfusion magnetic resonance images. Materials and Methods: Numerical phantoms were generated to simulate the first-passage of contrast agent in the heart, and rendered in conventional gray scale as well as in color scale with reduced luminance variation. Cardiac perfusion images were acquired from two healthy volunteers, and were displayed by the same gray and color scales used in the numerical study. Before and after k-space windowing, the left ventricle (LV)-myocardium boarders were analyzed visually and quantitatively through intensity profiles perpendicular the boarders. Results: k-space windowing yielded monotonically decreasing signal intensity near the LV-myocardium boarder in the phantom images, as confirmed by negative finite difference values near the board ranging -1.07 to -0.14. However, the dark band still appears, which is perceived by visual illusion. Dark rim is perceived in the in-vivo images after k-space windowing that removed the quantitative signal dip, suggesting that the perceived dark rim is a visual illusion. The perceived dark rim is stronger at peak LV enhancement than the peak myocardial enhancement, due to the larger intensity difference between LV and myocardium. In both numerical phantom and in-vivo images, the illusory dark band is not visible in the color map due to reduced luminance variation. Conclusion: Visual illusion is another potential cause of dark rim artifact in contrast-enhanced myocardial perfusion MRI as demonstrated by illusory rim perceived in the absence of quantitative intensity undershoot.

Investigating the Effects of Hearing Loss and Hearing Aid Digital Delay on Sound-Induced Flash Illusion

  • Background and Objectives: The integration of auditory-visual speech information improves speech perception; however, if the auditory system input is disrupted due to hearing loss, auditory and visual inputs cannot be fully integrated. Additionally, temporal coincidence of auditory and visual input is a significantly important factor in integrating the input of these two senses. Time delayed acoustic pathway caused by the signal passing through digital signal processing. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of hearing loss and hearing aid digital delay circuit on sound-induced flash illusion. Subjects and Methods: A total of 13 adults with normal hearing, 13 with mild to moderate hearing loss, and 13 with moderate to severe hearing loss were enrolled in this study. Subsequently, the sound-induced flash illusion test was conducted, and the results were analyzed. Results: The results showed that hearing aid digital delay and hearing loss had no detrimental effect on sound-induced flash illusion. Conclusions: Transmission velocity and neural transduction rate of the auditory inputs decreased in patients with hearing loss. Hence, the integrating auditory and visual sensory cannot be combined completely. Although the transmission rate of the auditory sense input was approximately normal when the hearing aid was prescribed. Thus, it can be concluded that the processing delay in the hearing aid circuit is insufficient to disrupt the integration of auditory and visual information.

착시현상이 반영된 과제지향적 거울치료가 뇌졸중 환자의 상지기능에 미치는 영향: 개별실험연구 (The Effect of Task-Oriented Mirror Therapy involve Visual Illusion on Upper Extremity Functions in Stroke Patients: Single Subject Study)

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 뇌졸중 환자를 대상으로 착시현상이 반영된 과제지향적 거울치료 중재 적용 시 상지기능의 변화를 알아보고자 한다. 연구방법 : 뇌졸중 진단을 받은 6명의 환자들을 대상으로 과제지향적 거울치료 중재를 실시하였다. 과제 지향적 거울치료 시 착시현상을 반영한 운동프로그램을 적용한 그룹과 착시현상을 반영하지 않는 운동프로그램을 적용한 그룹 각각 3명으로 나누어 실시하였다. 상지기능의 변화를 확인하기 위해서 상자와 나무토막 검사와 수직선 그리기 검사를 매회기 반복 측정 하였다. 결과 : 과제지향적 거울치료를 적용한 결과 모든 대상자는 중재기에서 마비측 상지기능이 향상되었으며, 기초선 회귀에서 그 효과가 지속됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 착시현상이 반영된 운동프로그램을 적용받은 그룹이 중재기에서 더욱 상향된 경향선을 보였고, 기초선 회귀에서 더 높은 상지기능이 지속되었다. 결론 : 과제 지향적 거울치료 운동프로그램은 뇌졸중 환자에게 유용하게 적용될 수 있을 것으로 사료되며 과제 지향적 운동프로그램 구성 시 착시현상을 일으키는 편측 움직임을 포함하는 과제를 활용하여 좀 더 효과적인 운동프로그램을 구성할 수 있을 것이다.

  • 다이나믹 이미지 예술은 실험 영화, 비디오 아트, 뉴미디어 아트라는 세 가지 주요 유형이 있다. 모든 새로운 재료와 미디어를 예술에 도입하여 예술 창작에 더 큰 자유를 가져왔다. 디지털 정보기술의 발달로 다이나믹 영상 이미지 제작에 있어 고도의 시각 예술적 요구가 증가하고 있다. 다이나믹 이미지와 착시 현상의 조합에서 파생될 수 있는 다양한 형태와 표현 방법은 예술 작품을 더욱 생생하게 만든다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 디지털 다이나믹 영상 기술과 착시현상의 결합을 중심으로 한 공간의 재구성에 초점을 두고 있다. 또한 다이나믹 이미지 개발 맥락에서 시각과 착시의 관계를 살펴보고자 한다. 끝으로 폴 셔면의 작품 분석을 통해 그 합리적인 결합을 찾아볼 수 있다. 적절한 기술적 구현 수단으로 디지털 멀티미디어 기술을 사용하여 공간의 착시 현상을 표현하여 디자인이 더 새롭고 영향력이 있도록 하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is to survey differences of visual effects for location the york line. According to three types of body shapes(average, small & thin small & fat)for location of the york line We investigated the visual effects and optical illusion by slider and the results of data which analized by anova and duncan's multiple rannge are as follows. 1. In the A.V (average) body shapes design D1 was showed D1 was showed to be most remarkable in terms of optical illusion and design D2 was showed to be prefer in terms of visual sight. 2. In the S.T(small& thin) body shapes design D1 was showed to be most remarkable in terms of optical illusion but from the side view of looking thinness design D4 was showed to be nogative and from preference of visual sight design D4 was showed to be most negative. 3. In the S.F(small& fot) body shapes design D1 was showed to be most remarkable in terms of optical illusion and design D3 gained the bettle of superiority from the side view of looking tallness and design D3 was showed to be most negative in terms of the preference of visual sight.

3D 가상 착의 시스템을 활용한 원피스 드레스의 원형 개발 및 시각적 이미지 연구 (Development of a Pattern and Visual Image for a One-Piece Dress using a 3D Virtual Clothing System)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a design method for one-piece dress patterns with high body fitness through an appearance evaluation of one-piece dress patterns with the application of the 3D Virtual Clothing System known as i-designer. Measures consisted of an optical illusion effect in visual imagery and mutual influence according to a change in the length and princess line, in a silhouette of a one-piece dress. The data was assessed by a t-test and a multi-way ANOVA and factor analysis using SPSS 17.0. The results were as follows; The design of the study pattern was done by modifying the ease of the bust circumference, ease of the abdominal circumference, ease of the hip circumference, the position of the side seam line, and the appearance of horizontality in the hem line, which received a low evaluation in appearance evaluations of a one-piece dress pattern. As a result of analyzing the visual image according to a change in the length and princess line, in the form of a silhouette of a one-piece dress, four factors were selected; the whole-body optical illusion factor, the upper-body optical illusion factor, the bust optical illusion factor, and the lower-body optical illusion factor. As a result of analyzing the effect of the interaction in the visual image according to the design variables, the influence of the main effect was found to be great in each factor. In the upper-body optical illusion factor, a significant difference was not noted in the two-way interaction between the length and the princess line. However, the influence on three-way interaction among the length, princess line, and silhouette was significant.

입술 메이크업의 시각적 착시 효과 연구 (The Visual Optical illusion effect study of Lip Make-up)

  • A face is the place where individuals can first give their images visually. This chapter presents how 'Visual optical illusion' works in applying makeup and how to differentiate the direction, location and shape of Lip in the aspect of physiognomy. For this study, employed were five types of face shape produced by Photoshop program. The best-matched facial shape was examined through a questionnaire research after applying the optical illusion of Lip to the five types of face shape. The results were revealed to be identical to ones presented in make-up teaching materials. In conclusion, it was found that well-matched shape and size of Lip could make some changes in the facial impression, changing the face shape into oval shape. The facial line can be modified and supplemented by reshaping such facial parts as the Lip, producing well-balanced facial shape. Consequently, make-up was proved to be one of the methods which can be used to create social and psychological effect which can make a favorable facial impression and individuality, natural impression and image making depending on different purposes, taking advantage of optical illusion effect.

잡지광고에서 착시 디자인의 효과에 대한 비교 연구 (A Comparative study of the effect of optical illusion design in Magazine Advertisement)

  • 본 연구는 잡지광고의 착시 디자인 기법을 총괄하고 분석함으로써 착시 잡지광고와 그렇지 않은 일반 잡지광고 디자인을 비교하고, 잡지광고를 통해 시각 착시 형 디자인 언어의 응용 전망과 디자인 강점을 정리함으로써 향후 평면 디자인 분야에 기여하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 먼저 선행 연구의 문헌 분석과 사례연구를 통해 착시 디자인의 특성과 효과를 고찰했다. 다음으로 착시 디자인의 잡지광고 효과를 분석하기 위해 착시 잡지광고와 일반 잡지광고를 비교하는 설문조사를 실시했으며 IBM SPSS 27.0 프로그램을 이용한 통계 분석, 신뢰성, 탐색적 요인 분석을 통해 착시 디자인의 영향을 검토했다. 향후 착시 디자인 적용 시에는 무엇보다 시각적 충격과 제품의 함의를 효과적으로 조합하여 표현하는 것에 중점을 두어야 한다. 착시의 중의성, 모순, 재미, 모호함 등의 특성을 십분 활용하면서도 착시 현상의 시각 언어와 조합 구조를 적절히 활용할 때 브랜드가 전달하는 특징을 극대화하여 홍보할 수 있다.
