Automatic Generation of Character-Specific Roadmaps for Path Planning in Computer Games (컴퓨터 게임에서의 경로 계획을 위한 캐릭터별 로드맵의 자동 생성)

  • Path planning is gaining more weight in computer games and virtual reality as the number of self-moving characters increases. In the roadmap approach, the map of possible paths is built in advance to plan paths for a character, whose advantage is to provide high-quality paths. On the other hand, a disadvantage is that the road map doesn't reflect properties of characters such as their sizes because they move on the same map once the road map is constructed. In this paper we propose an efficient method to build a different road map for each character so that it can use its own map for path-planning. This method is efficient because the whole map is built once by applying the Visibility Graph regardless of the number of characters and walkable paths are incrementally inserted according to the sizes of characters. The effects of using separate roadmaps are demonstrated through simulations and the trade-offs accompanied with these effects are analyzed.

  • This paper aims to investigate in what extent subject-centered clusters are different from one another in terms of message system, which is composed of curriculum, pedagogy and evaluation. For this, Bernstein's pedagogic transmission code(i.e., classification and framing) and school typology(i.e., open-type or close-type) have been explored, and then applied into Shimin Junior School, Japan, in order to find out substantial characteristics between subject-centered clusters. In this case study, VGA(visibility graph analysis), as one of syntactical methodologies in space syntax theory, has been used to measure to what degree they are actually different. Throughout in-depth investigation of spatial configurations, it can be said that the square of clusters is strongly connected and integrated very well, so that it acts as an anchor place for school life within a cluster. However, it works in different ways according to message systems. In the subjects like Japanese and Science whose message system are characterized by strong classification and strong framing, integration values are relatively low, and this means that it is hard to expect cross-referencing activities through the subject squares. On the contrary, the subject of Social Studies defined by weak classification and weak framing shows the highest mean integration values, and this can be expected that there are inter-changeable learning activities in the square.

  • Purpose: Maximizing human comfort in design of medical environments depends immensely on specialized architects particularly critical care design; the study proposes Evidence-Based Design as an apparent analog to Evidence-Based Medicine. Healthcare facility designs are substantially based on the findings of study in an effort to design environments that augment care by improving patient safety and being therapeutic. On SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) t-test is applied to simulate two independent variables of PDR (Pre Design-Research) and POE (Post- Occupancy Evaluation). PDR is conducted on relatively new hospital Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital to analyse visibility from researchers' point of view, here the ICU is arranged in I-Shape. POE is applied on Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital to simulate walking on LogWare where two NS are designed based on L- Shape and Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea where five NS are functional for ICU Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), Korean Oriental Medical Care Unit which are mostly arranged in U-Shape, and walking pattern is recognized to be in a zigzag path. Method: T-Test is applied on two dependent communication variables: walkability and visibility, with confidence interval of 95%. This study systematically analyses the Nurse Station (NS) typo-morphology, and simulates nurse horizontal circulation, by computing round route visits to patient's bed, then estimating minimum round route on LogWare stop sequence software. The visual connectivity is measured on depth map graphs. Hence the aim is to reduce staff stress and fatigue for better patients care by minimizing staff horizontal travel time and to facilitate nurse walk path and support space distribution by increasing effectiveness in delivering care. Result: Applying visibility graph and isovist field on space syntax on I- Shape, L- Shape and U- Shape ICU (SICU, MICU and CCU) configuration, I-shape facilitated 20% more patients in linear view as they stir to rise from their beds from nurse station compared to U-shape. In conclusion, it was proved that U-Shape supply minimum walking and maximum visibility; and L shape provides just visibility as the nurse is at pivot. I shape provides panoramic view from the Nurse Station but very rigorous walking.

Presidential Candidate's Speech based on Network Analysis : Mainly on the Visibility of the Words and the Connectivity between the Words (18대 대통령 선거 후보자의 연설문 네트워크 분석: 단어의 가시성(visibility)과 단어 간 연결성(connectivity)을 중심으로)

  • This study explores the political meaning of candidate's speech and statement who run for the 18th presidential election in the viewpoint of communication. The visibility of the words and the connectivity between the words are analyzed in the viewpoint of structural aspect and the vision, policy. The visibility of the words is analyzed based on the frequency of the words mentioned in the speech or the statement. The connectivity between the words are analyzed based on the network analysis and expressed by graph. In the case of candidate Park, the key word is the happiness of the people and appointment. The key word for candidate Moon is regime change and the Korean Peninsula and the key word for candidate Ahn is the people and change. This study contributes positively to the study of candidate's discourse in the viewpoint of methodology by using network analysis and exploring scientifically the connectivity of the words. In the theoretical aspect this study uses the results of network analysis for revealing what is the leadership components in the speech and the statement. In conclusion, this study highlights the extension of the communication studies.

Efficient RMESH Algorithms for Computing the Intersection and the Union of Two Visibility Polygons (두 가시성 다각형의 교집합과 합집합을 구하는 효율적인 RMESH 알고리즘)

  • We can consider the following problems for two given points p and q in a simple polygon P. (1) Compute the set of points of P which are visible from both p and q. (2) Compute the set of points of P which are visible from either p or q. They are corresponding to the problems which are to compute the intersection and the union of two visibility polygons. In this paper, we consider algorithms for solving these problems on a reconfigurable mesh(in short, RMESH). The algorithm in [1] can compute the intersection of two general polygons in constant time on an RMESH with size O($n^3$), where n is the total number of vertices of two polygons. In this paper, we construct the planar subdivision graph in constant time on an RMESH with size O($n^2$) using the properties of the visibility polygon for preprocessing. Then we present O($log^2n$) time algorithms for computing the union as well as the intersection of two visibility polygons, which improve the processor-time product from O($n^3$) to O($n^2log^2n$).

  • The GENCO of competition in the market for profit maximization of business development for the study of how to build a facility plan.   • The purpose of this paper is to develop a 3-dimensional human model, an ergonomic CAD (Computer-Aided Design) system which would be very helphul in ergonomic design. An interactive program was developed, in which a user could change layout, body size, skin volume, and posture of the human model. As an example, effect of inclination of a steering wheel on visibility of a display panel was demonstrated. he result showed that ergonomic design can be aided by the 3-dimensional human model, and by the perspective graph by which design and evaluation process can be carried out more effectively.

  • 본 논문에서는 로보틱스나 컴퓨터 게임 등의 다양한 분야에서 일반적으로 존재하는 동적인 환경에서 장애물 회피를 위한 경로 계획 알고리즘을 연구하였다. 제안하는 알고리즘은 전역 경로계획과 지역 경로계획의 두 단계로 이루어져 있고, A*와 가시성 그래프에 의해 구해진 전역 경로를 이동할 때에 동적 장애물을 감지하게 되면 이를 회피하기 위해 포텐샬장으로 지역 경로를 구성한다. 이 알고리즘은 포텐샬장을 A*와 결합함으로써 지역 최적화 문제를 해결하고 포텐샬장만으로 이동하는 경우에 비해 시간적인 측면에서도 더욱 효율적이다.

  • 게임의 장르가 다양해지고 대규모의 온라인 게임이 가능해 징에 따라 게임 환경과 더불어 게임 안에 등장하는 캐릭터의 수도 많아지고 있다. 게이머에 의해 움직이는 캐릭터 외에도 여러 종류의 다양한 NPC(Non-Player Character)들이 각각 맡은 임무를 띠고 각기 움직이게 된다. 본 논문에서는 NPC들의 자연스러운 이동을 위해 제안된 일반화 가시성그래프를 이용하여 계획된 경로의 효과적인 구현을 위한 조타행동(steering behaviors)과 경로 이동 중에 만나는 다른 캐릭터에 대한 NPC들의 조타행동을 정의하고 구현하여 이동에 따른 효율을 실험해 본다.

  • Along with the emergence of technologies related to the 4th industrial revolution, all industry sectors are making efforts to dramatically increase productivity by actively introducing high-tech technologies. Recently, the MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) is trying to solve problems related to low productivity and high accident rate in the construction industry by applying the 4th industrial revolution technologies to infrastructure construction through smart construction R&D projects. This research was performed as part of the smart construction R&D project supported by MLIT, and the purpose is to develop a module that automatically generates moving paths for construction equipment based on the earthwork plan for road construction. The generated moving path can be used to provide safe and efficient paths for construction equipment and to support MC and MG to work efficiently. The moving paths for construction equipment are created based on the Visibility Graph and a case study is performed to show how the paths are generated based on a given construction site.
