  • Recent advances in technologies such as internet have led to the emergence of virtual universities. However, existing technologies have many problems to be applied on virtual university implementation. Especially, existing transaction models are not appropriate to support virtual universities. In this paper, we present a transaction model to support virtual universities. First, we discuss general virtual university environments. After that, we introduce transaction model requirements for virtual universities. Those requirements include on-line processing, flexibility on transaction length, unpredictability, interactivity and parallelism. Then, we present a transaction model reflecting those requirements, and transaction processing techniques. Finally, we discuss future research issues based on our transaction model and processing techniques.

  • There has been much research on data mining techniques for applying more advanced applications. However, most of those techniques has focused on transaction data rather than time series data. In this paper, we introduce a approach to convert time series data into virtual transaction data for more useful data mining applications. A virtual transaction is defined to be a collection of events that occur relatively close to each other. A virtual transaction generator uses time window or event window methods. Our approach based on time series data can be used with most conventional transaction algorithms without further modification.

  • Card-Not-Present (CNP) transactions taking place remotely over the Internet are becoming more prevalent. Cardholder authentication should be provided to prevent the CNP fraud resulting from the theft of stored credit card numbers. To address the security problems associated with CNP transactions, the use of a virtual card number derived from the transaction details for the payment has been proposed, instead of the real card number. Since all of the virtual card number schemes proposed so far are based on a password shared between the cardholder and card issuer, transaction disputes due to the malicious behavior of one of the parties involved in the transaction cannot be resolved. In this paper, a new virtual card number scheme is proposed, which is associated with the cardholder's public key for signature verification. It provides strong cardholder authentication and non-repudiation of the transaction without deploying a public-key infrastructure, so that the transaction dispute can be easily resolved. The proposed scheme is analyzed in terms of its security and usability, and compared with the previously proposed schemes.

  • Internet-based electronic trade has been growing fast. But most users are not yet familiar with the system and find it very difficult to purchase and sell the products in the cyber market place. To handle these problems, agent-based virtual market place system has been proposed where agents instead of individuals participate in trading of goods. Most of the proposed models have been in the two general categories. The first is the direct transaction among sellers and buyers, and the second is the agent-based transaction. However, the transaction is not fair and the best deal can't be guaranteed for both models. In this paper, we propose a new broker based synchronous transaction algorithm which is fair to both parties and guarantees the best deal. Our algorithm is implemented using Visual C++ and the experimental results show that our method is better than the two traditional transaction models in every performance metrics, Number of transactions are increased up to 21% and price adjustment is up to 280% better for some transactions.

  • This study estimated a dual path model to predict consumers' intention to use a QR code virtual store by the effect of a mobile transaction system and a facilitating condition that also examined the role of experience and the use of an intention model in the context of a QR code virtual store. A longitudinal field study was conducted at selected QR code virtual stores. A questionnaire containing mobile transaction system, facilitating condition, performance expectancy, effort expectance, and intention to use was administered at two different points in time: Initial use (T1) and the second use after one month (T2). This study sampled 109 subjects who voluntarily participated in field studies twice at different time points (pooled sample=218). Participants were asked to visit at the QR code virtual store and undertake shopping tasks on their smartphones. The estimated dual path model showed that a mobile transaction system had a positive effect on performance expectancy, which influenced intention to use; however, facilitating condition had a positive effect on effort expectancy, but the effort expectance did not lead to intention to use. The effort expectance significantly also affected the performance expectance influencing intention to use QR code virtual stores. It was also found that use experience moderated the effect of mobile transaction systems on performance expectancy. The findings discussed a critical and success factor in consumer technology acceptance and use over time. A managerial implication was also discussed to capture potential users by emphasizing performance expectancy with the superiority of an innovative system or consumer facilitating condition as external resources in the introduction stage of new technology.

  • Recently, interest in virtual money has been growing. There is also a view that it is safe to pursue traditional assets, and some wealth experts are expecting positive changes in the financial society that can be diversified due to virtual money. Since the virtual money market is an immature situation and the stability of the virtual money is not yet secured, the potential risk of the transaction of the virtual money is highly likely to occur. In this study, we try to derive important priorities by deriving the evaluation factors that can contribute to the stabilization of the virtual currency in the market transaction. The main evaluation factors were selected from the viewpoint of the transaction environment, the technical viewpoint, and the profit viewpoint, and the importance of the subordinate factors was analyzed by applying AHP.

  • Financial fraud has been increasing along with credit card usage. Magnetic stripe cards have vulnerabilities in that credit card information is exposed in plaintext and cardholder verification is untrustworthy. So they have been replaced by a smart card scheme to provide enhanced security. Furthermore, the FinTech that combines the IT with Financial product is being prevalent. For that reason, many mobile device based payment schemes have been proposed for card present transaction. In this paper, we propose a virtual credit card number payment scheme based on public key system for efficient authentication in card present transaction. Our proposed scheme is able to authenticate efficiently in card present transaction by pre-registering virtual credit card number based on cardholder's public key without PKI. And we compare and analyze our proposed scheme with EMV.

  • Facing competitive and complicated business environment, many companies are developing new and diverse organization forms not only to overcome to minimize costs and risks but also to maximize the efficiency of an organization. Virtual organization is one of the representative forms allowing firms to create this value though a link of core competency among firms. In order to explain the performance of virtual organization in terms of efficiency, this study utilizes a concept of trust since it is recently considered as one of core concept to enhance the cooperative performance between firms and also virtual organizations success or failure can not be properly explained by traditional transaction-cost based economic point of view. Based on previous literature this study derives three success factors, organizational reputation, skill Uniqueness, and interpersonal trust and studies how three factors influence on the efficiency of virtual organization. Findings conducted with a questionnaire survey are as follow: first, organization reputation and skill uniqueness between virtual organization's transaction parties are important elements in the success of virtual organization. Second, interpersonal trust affected by organization reputation and skill uniqueness decides virtual organization's efficiency.

  • Recently, according to the rapid development of Internet and IT, many applications and technologies related to Internet and IT have been studied and developed. The agent technology, which was an essential topic in early AI, is being researched with the combination of the recent network technologies. Mobile agent especially takes high interest of many researchers because of its mobility with which it can move around the internet and complete its goal. This paper presents a virtual market system using mobile agent, in which the transaction agents can do their transaction about some product with each other instead of real buyer and seller. The presented virtual market system consists of market agent, customer agent and database agent to provide the virtual market places for the effective completion of transactions.
