  • PURPOSE: This study evaluated the effects of robot-assisted gait training combined with virtual reality training on balance and gait ability in stroke patients. METHODS: Thirty-one stroke patients were allocated randomly into one of two groups: robot-assisted gait training combined virtual reality training group (RGVR group; n = 16) and control group (n = 15). The RGVR group received 30 minutes of robot-assisted gait training combined with virtual reality training. Robot-assisted gait training was conducted in parallel using a virtual reality device. In the Control group, neurodevelopmental therapy was performed according to the function of chronic stroke patients. Both groups underwent training for 30 minutes, three times per week for eight weeks. The balance assessment system (BioRescue, Marseille, France), BBS, and TUG were used to evaluate the balance ability. The OptoGait (Microgate Srl, Bolzano, Italy) and 10 mWT were measured to evaluate the gait ability. The measurements were performed before and after the eight-week intervention period. RESULTS: Both groups showed significant improvement in their balance and gait ability during the intervention. RGVR showed significant differences in balance and gait ability compared to the control group groups (p < .05). These results showed that RGVR was more effective on balance and gait ability in patients with chronic stroke. CONCLUSION: RGVR can improve balance and gait ability, highlighting the benefits of RGVR. This study provides intervention data for recovering the balance and gait ability of chronic stroke patients.

  • This paper describes the quantitative analysis on the improvement of equilibrium sensory using virtual bicycle system. We have used a virtual bicycle system that combines virtual reality technology with a bicycle. In this experiment, 10 subjects were tested to investigate the influencing factors on equilibrium sensory. Straight road and curved road driving at several factors including cycling time, number of times of path deviation, and center of pressure(COP) were extracted and evaluated to quantify the extent of control. Also, To improve the effect of balance training, we investigated the usefulness of virtual feedback information by weight shift. The result showed that the system could be effective for equilibrium sensory rehabilitation training device. The analysis method might also have wider applicability to the rehabilitation field.

  • LVC(Live-Virtual-Constructive) training system is drawing attention due to changes in battlefield situation and the development of advanced information and communication technologies. The ROKAF(Republic of Korea Air Force) plans to construct LVC training system capable of scientific training. This paper analyzes the results of V-C interoperability test with three fighter simulators as virtual systems and a theater-level wargame model as a constructive system. The F-15K, KF-16, and FA-50 fighter simulators, which have different interoperable methods, were converted into a standard for simulation interoperability. Using the integrated field environment simulator, the fighter simulators established a mutually interoperable environment. In addition, the Changgong model, which is the representative training model of the Air Force, was converted to the standard for simulation interoperability, and the integrated model was implemented with optimized interoperability performance. Throughput experiments, It was confirmed that the fighter simulators and the war game model of the ROKAF could be interoperable with each other. The results of this study are expected to be a good reference for the future study of the ROKAF LVC training system.

  • This paper describes a development of rehabilitation training system for the postural balance control. A new rehabilitation training system, designated as a virtual cycling system, was developed to improve postural balance control by combining virtual reality technology with an unfixed bicycle. In this experiment, 20 normal adults were tested to investigate the influencing parameters of postural balance control. In order to evaluate the usefulness and the training effects of the system, several parameters including path deviation, cycling velocity, cycling time, center of pressure, and head movement were evaluated and analyzed quantitatively. Also, to improve the effect of balance training, the visual feedback information related to the subject's weight shift was assessed to identify whether it was useful. It could be also known ...

  • Collecting a rich but meaningful training data plays a key role in machine learning and deep learning researches for a self-driving vehicle. This paper introduces a detailed overview of existing open-source simulators which could be used for training self-driving vehicles. After reviewing the simulators, we propose a new effective approach to make a synthetic autonomous vehicle simulation platform suitable for learning and training artificial intelligence algorithms. Specially, we develop a synthetic simulator with various realistic situations and weather conditions which make the autonomous shuttle to learn more realistic situations and handle some unexpected events. The virtual environment is the mimics of the activity of a genuine shuttle vehicle on a physical world. Instead of doing the whole experiment of training in the real physical world, scenarios in 3D virtual worlds are made to calculate the parameters and training the model. From the simulator, the user can obtain data for the various situation and utilize it for the training purpose. Flexible options are available to choose sensors, monitor the output and implement any autonomous driving algorithm. Finally, we verify the effectiveness of the developed simulator by implementing an end-to-end CNN algorithm for training a self-driving shuttle.

  • Realistic training contents utilizing intensive immersion of virtual reality are being used in various fields such as industry, education, and medical care. High-risk, high-cost education training, in particular, is difficult to conduct in reality, but it can be applied with the latest virtual reality technology that enhances educational effectiveness by efficiently and safely experiencing it in an environment similar to reality. This study introduces a management system that systematically manages realistic virtual training contents and visualizes training results in schematic pictures based on defined evaluation elements. The management system can store the information generated from the content in the database and manage the training records of each trainee in a practical way. In addition, a content-based scenario can be created in multiple scenarios by setting training goals, number of participants, and methods for applying evaluation elements. This paper describes the management system's production method and the results based on the virtual reality training content as an application example.

  • This paper addresses the problem of how to effectively use virtual reality(VR) for improving the quality of safety training systems. As the working environment and the working system in the industry are more and more complex and large-scaled, the concern with system safety is accordingly growing. Safety training systems are regarded as an effective way for increasing workers' interest in system safety and enhancing their ability of preventing and handling accidents/incidents. Recently, it has been reported that VR would be effectively used for improving the quality of safety training systems, with its technically specialized features. However, little attention has been given to the problem of how to effectively use VR for safety training systems. In order to make the best use of new technology such as VR, it is important to examine its advantages and disadvantages and the contexts to which its use can be beneficial. This paper firstly reviews the current status of safety training systems and the use of VR for safety training systems in the inside and outside of the country. Next, we summarize the interview with safety managers in four manufacturing companies, which was conducted to understand the requirements of stake-holders of the issue. Based on the review and the interview, we suggested the ways of using VR in safety training systems in an effective manner. They are described from the four perspectives: development and maintenance cost, lack of specialized workers, design of accident scenarios used with VR, and empirical demonstration of the effectiveness of VR in safety training.

The virtual reality was started to rising for reduce to consumable materials and welding training risk. And, we will expected maximize virtual reality from virtual welding training. In this paper proposed method is get the database to changing the input factor such as work angle, travelling angle, speed, CTWD. And, it is visualization to bead from extract to optimal morphological feature information to using the Neural Network algorithm. The database was building without error to extract data from automatic robot welder. Also, the Neural Network algorithm was set a dataset of the highest accuracy from verification process in many times. The bead was created in virtual reality from extract to morphological feature information. We were implementation to final shape of bead and overlapped in process by time to using bead generation algorithm and calibration algorithm for generate to same bead shape to real database in process of generating bead. The best advantage of virtual welding training, it can be get the many data to training evaluation. In this paper, we were representation bead to similar shape from generated bead to Flux Cored Arc Welding. Therefore, we were reduce the gap to virtual welding training and real welding training. In addition, we were confirmed be able to maximize the performance of education from more effective evaluation system.
