In general, image-based virtual environment is represented by panoramic images created by image mosaic algorithm. The cylindrical panoramic image supports the fixed-viewpoint navigation due to the constraints of construction. Shum proposed concentric mosaics to allow users to navigate freely within a circular area[10]. It is constructed by a sequence of images which is acquired from a regularly rotating camera. Concentric mosaics technique, proposed by Shum, is considered as 3D plenoptic function which is defined three parameters : distance, height and angle. In this paper, we suggest an effective method for creating concentric mosaics, in which we first align a set of strip images on the cylinder plane and stitch the aligned strips to build a panoramic image. The proposed method has no constraints such as regular panning motion of camera. Furthermore, our proposed method minimizes the use of interpolation image to create a novel view images from the concentric mosaics. It allows the result image on a novel view to have better quality with respect to the number of input images.
We propose a method to determine camera parameters for character motion, which confiders the motion by itself. The basic idea is to approximately compute the area swept by the motion of the character's links that are orthogonally projected onto the image plane, which we call "Motion Area". Using the motion area, we can determine good fixed camera parameters and camera paths for a given character motion in the off-line or real-time camera control. In our experimental results, we demonstrate that our camera path generation algorithms can compute a smooth moving camera path while the camera effectively displays the dynamic features of character motion. Our methods can be easily used in combination with the method for generating occlusion-free camera paths. We expect that our methods can also be utilized by the general camera planning method as one of heuristics for measuring the visual quality of the scenes that include dynamically moving characters.

Virtual Brain-endoscopy is an effective method to detect lesion in brain. Brain is the most part of the human and is not easy part to operate so that reconstructing in 3D may be very helpful to doctors. In this paper, it is suggested that to increase the reliability, method of matching 3D object with the 2D CT slice. 3D Brain-endoscopy is reconstructed with 35 slices of 2D CT images. There is a plate in 3D brain-endoscopy so as to drag upward or downward to match the relevant 2D CT image. Relevant CT image guides the user to recognize the exact part he or she is investigating. VRML Script is used to make the change in images and PlaneSensor node is used to transmit the y coordinate value with the CT image. The result is test on the PC which has the following spec. 400MHz Clock-speed, 512MB ram, and FireGL 3000 3D accelerator is set up. The VRML file size is 3.83MB. There was no delay in controlling the 3D world and no collision in changing the CT images. This brain-endoscopy can be also put to practical use on medical education through internet.

The tire inflation and contact problem has been solved by a finite element method. The finite element formulation is derived from the equilibrium equations by the principle of virtual work in the form of an updated Lagrangian formulation for incremental analysis. Then, a contact formulation is added to the finite element formulation to calculate stress state of tire in contact with flat rigid road under the load due to the self-weight of a vehicle. In the finite element analysis, equations of effective material properties are introduced to analyze a plane strain model of the shell-like tire by considering the bending effect of reinforced steel cords. The proposed equations of effective material properties produced stress concentration around the edge of belt layers, which does not appear when other well-known equations of material properties are adopted. The result from the above algorithm demonstrates the validity of the formulation and the proposed equations for the effective elastic constants. The result fully interprets the cause of separation between belt layers by showing the stress concentration.

At present, naked-eye 3D appears more and more commonly on the facades of urban buildings. It brings an incredible visual experience to the audience by simulating the natural 3D 3D space effect. At the same time, it also creates enormous commercial value for city publicity and commercial advertisements. There is much research on naked-eye 3D visual effects, but for right-angle LED screens. Right-angle LED screen's brand-new expression method that has only become popular in recent years, how to convey a realistic naked-eye 3D effect through two LED screens combined at right angles has become a problem worth exploring. To explore the whole design ideas and production process of the naked-eye 3D impact of the right-angle LED screen, this paper is a preliminary study aimed at understanding the performance principle and expression features. Before the case analysis, first, understand the standard virtual 3D space construction techniques. Combining it with the optical illusion phenomenon, according to the expression principle of the naked-eye 3D effect of the right-angle LED screen, it can be summarized into seven expressions: Shadow, Color contrast, Background structure line, Magnify object, Object out of bounds, Object floating, Fusion of picture and background. By analyzing the optical illusion phenomenon used in the case, we summarized the main performance characteristics of the naked eye 3D effect. The emergence of right-angle LED screens breaks the limitation of a single plane of optical illusion art, perfectly combines building facades with naked-eye 3D visual effects, and provides designers with a brand-new creative platform. Understanding its production principles and main expressive features can help designers enter this innovative platform better.
In this paper, the flow performance and aero-acoustic noise generated by the target centrifugal fan system were investigated numerically and experimentally. Also, the numerical method for Computational Aero-Acoustics were evaluated by comparing each method. To analyze the performance of the centrifugal fan experimentally, the acoustic power level was measured in the semi-anechoic chamber using microphones, and the active frequency range for the noise performance was identified and that frequency range was applied for Computational Aero-Acoustics (CAA) techniques as sampling frequency. Then, Navier-Stokes equation and the Ffowcs Williams&Hawking equations were used to analyze the flow and sound power numerically, respectively, and a virtual acoustic radiation plane was designed and used for the implementation of the sound field. The accuracy and numerical characteristics of the numerical methods were validated by comparing simulated acoustic power levels with acoustic power levels measured.
The two major objectives of acoustical measurements in a cavitation tunnel are measuring the noise levels generated by rotating propellers behind a hull and localizing possible noise sources in order to reduce noise levels. Propeller noise measurement experiments were performed in MOERI cavitation tunnel at December, 2006. In order to put the propeller into cavitating conditions, a wake-generating dummy body was devised. In addition, ten hydrophones are put inside a wing-shaped casing in order to minimize the unexpected flow induced self noise around hydrophone itself. After measuring both of the noises of the rotating propeller behind the dummy body and signals generated by a virtual source, respectively the data were matched field processed using the frequency incoherent Bartlett processor to localize noises on the propeller plane. In this paper, we presented the measured noise analysis and the localization results.
Full mouth rehabilitation is re-organizing the occlusion of the remaining teeth and missing teeth considering the functions, esthetics, and neuromuscular harmony. With the loss of multiple teeth, the patient's occlusal plane gradually collapses and the vertical dimension can be reduced. Since reduced vertical dimension can be a potential etiology of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles, prosthetic restoration with increased vertical dimension is required. This case report is about a 68 years old patient with vertical dimension loss due to worn dentition and multiple loss of teeth. In this case, the loss of vertical dimension is assessed carefully using the digital dentistry technology. Using CAD software in digital analysis step, the occlusal plane was established and evaluated using several criteria. Orienting the position of the bone and teeth using CBCT image, patient's condition was visualized in 3 dimension and treatment planning was possible virtually. The information that matches the patient's condylar position with the articulator, which is the virtual face bow, is reproduced on the actual articulator, and evaluated again. After the evaluation, provisional prosthesis was fabricated and it was confirmed that the patient adapts without any abnormality. This was implemented as a final prosthesis. As a result, the patient obtained satisfying results, utilizing the benefits of digital dentistry technology and traditional methods.
This paper suggests a method for generating high qualify stereo video avatar to support visual communication in a CAVE$^{TM}$-like system. In such a system because of frequent change of light projected onto screens around user, it is not easy to extract user silhouette robustly, which is an essential step to generate a video avatar. In this study, we use an infrared reflective image acquired by a grayscale camera with a longpass filter so that the change of visible light on a screen is blocked to extract robust user silhouette. In addition, using two color cameras positioned at a distance of a binocular disparity of human eyes, we acquire two stereo images of the user for fast generation and stereoscopic display of a high quality video avatar without 3D reconstruction. We also suggest a fitting algorithm of a silhouette mask on an infrared reflective image into an acquired color image to remove background. Generated stereo images of a video avatar are texture mapped into a plane in virtual world and can be displayed in stereoscopic using frame sequential stereo method. Suggested method have advantages that it generates high quality video avatar taster than 3D approach and it gives stereoscopic feeling to a user 2D based approach can not provide.

The leading surgical method for correcting the misalignment of the varus and valgus in the knee joint is the high tibial osteotomy (HTO). In the opening wedge HTO (OWHTO), there is no concern about damaging the peroneal nerve on the lateral tibia of the proximal fibula. OWHTO has been the preferred choice, as the opening of the correction angle can be modulated during the operation. The correction of the varus and valgus on the coronal plane are performed adroitly. Nevertheless, there have been numerous reports of unintended changes in the medial tibial plateau and posterior slope angle (PSA). The authors have developed an HTO method using computer-assisted surgery with the aim of addressing the abovementioned problems from an engineer's perspective. CT images of the high tibia were reconstructed three-dimensionally, and a virtual osteotomy was performed on a computer. In addition, this study recommends a surgical method that does not cause changes in the PSA after OWHTO. The results of the study are expected to suggest a clear relationship between the anteromedial cortex oblique angle of each patient and the PSA, and an optimal PSA selection method for individuals.
