We analyzed berry skin coloration, anthocyanin accumulation, and plant hormone contents in berry skins to determine the effect of night temperature at veraison on berry skin coloration in 'Kyoho' grapevines (Vitis labruscana L.). Vines were grown under 21, 24, and 27℃ at night for 20 days at veraison, from 40 to 60 days after full bloom (DAFB). Berry skin coloration of 'Kyoho' grapes was more suppressed in 27℃ treated vines, followed by that in 24℃ treated vines, than that in 21℃ treated vines. Cluster and berry weight and soluble solids content was lower in 24 and 27℃ treated vines than in 21℃ treated vines. Anthocyanin started to accumulate from 60 DAFB in berry skin of 21℃ treated vines, and malvidin and total anthocyanin content increased until 100 DAFB. The total and most of the individual anthocyanins decreased in 24 and 27℃ treated vines; however, peonidin did not decrease in 24℃ treated vines compared to that in 21℃ treated vines. Abscisic acid (ABA) peaked at veraison in berry skins of 21℃ treated vines and decreased thereafter until 100 DAFB. The increase in ABA content was inhibited in berry skins of 24 and 27℃ treated vines. Gibberellin (GA) content in berry skins decreased rapidly at veraison, with the decrease being slower under 27℃ than under 21℃. ABA/GA in berry skins of 21℃ treated vines peaked at 60 DAFB and decreased thereafter until 100 DAFB. However, ABA/GA decreased in berry skins of 24 and 27℃ treated vines, with reduced anthocyanin accumulation. Therefore, high night temperature (above 24℃) at veraison suppressed the berry skin coloration of 'Kyoho' grapes with changes in anthocyanin contents and composition due to the decrease in ABA/GA ratio and fruit soluble solids contents.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of replacing 70% of the protein from fish meal by protein from ensiled or dry cassava leaves and sweet potato vines on the performance and carcass characters of growing F1 (Large White${\times}$Mong Cai) pigs in Central Vietnam. Twenty-five crossbred pigs (Large White${\times}$Mong Cai) with an initial weight of 19.7 kg (SD = 0.84) were allocated randomly to five treatment groups with 5 animals per group (3 males and 2 females). Pigs were kept individually in pens ($2.0{\times}0.8\;m$) and fed one of five diets over 90 days. The control diet was formulated with fish meal (FM) as the protein source while the other four diets were formulated by replacing 70% of fish meal protein by protein from ensiled cassava leaves (ECL), dry cassava leaves (DCL), dry sweet potato vines (DSPV) or ensiled sweet potato vines (ESPV). Animals were fed their diets at 4% of BW. Results showed that final BW, ADG, DMI and feed conversion ratio (FCR) among the experimental treatments were not significantly different (p>0.05). ECL or DCL and ESPV reduced feed cost per unit gain by 8-17.5% compared to the fish meal diet. There were no significant differences in carcass characters among the diets (p>0.05). Lean meat percentages and protein deposition ranged 41.5-45.8% and 40.2-52.9 g/d, respectively. Using ensiled or dry cassava leaves and sweet potato vine can replace at least 70% of the protein from fish meal (or 35% of total diet CP) without significant effects on performance and carcass traits of growing (20-65 kg) pigs. Including cassava leaves and sweet potato vines could improve feed cost and therefore has economic benefits.
Studies were conducted to investigate the control effects of several insecticides on Apolygus(=Lygocoris) spinolae(Meyer-Dur) and to develop its management strategies in grapevine yards. Of insecticides which were applied by farmers in commercial grapevine yards, chlorpyrifos, parathion, fenvalerate, and esfenvalerate$.$fenitrothion showed good control effects against A. spinolae. In designed field experiments of fenitrothion and chlorpyrifos for the evaluation of A. spinolae control, both insecticides showed high control efficacy of 94.8 and 91.6%, respectively. The damage of A. spinolae was examined in a grapevine yard, where five different combinations of application timing and number were treated with fenitrothion to assess yield losses (average cluster weight) by A. spinolae. There were no significant differences among average cluster weights of sprayed vines; 466.0 g in sprayed vines on 2 to 3 leaves unfolded stage, 460.7g in sprayed vines on flower separating stage, 465.0 g in sprayed vines each on 2 to 3 leaves unfolded and flowers separating stage, and 487.4 g in sprayed vines each on 2 to 3 leaves unfolded, flowers separating and fruit set stage. Weights of fruit clusters of unsprayed vines was significantly lower than those of sprayed vines. Based on yield and spray cost, chemical control on 2 to 3 leaves unfolded stage produced higher net income than each spray on 2 to 3 leaves unfolded and flower separating stage (i.e., two times of spray), and produced similar net income as each spray on 2 to 3 leaves unfolded, flowers separating and fruit set stage (i.e., three times of spray). Thus, the 2 to 3 leaves unfolded stage was economical spray timing to controlA. spinolae in grapevine yards. Also, management strategies for A. spinolae were discussed.
The complex analysis of male reproductive system of vines and fruit-tyees growing in zone of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) is realized. The obtained data demonstrate that the homogeneous pollen with high fertility and optimal morphometric parameters in all variants is formed. The obtained results demonstrate that there is no one-sided effect of ANPP on the development and formation of investigated male generative system of vines and fruit trees. Thus, on the base of obtained results we can't confirm its deleterious effect on the environment.
Kiwifruit vines with broad leaves are easily torn or shed by high-speed wind. In this study, the threshold wind speed at which a cane is broken was investigated experimentally with varying physical parameters of a kiwifruit vine under two different ABL (atmospheric boundary layer) conditions. In addition, the temporal variation of wind-blown young canes was visualized using a high-speed camera. The average threshold wind speeds for ABL types A and B are about 20.5 m/s and 18.9 m/s, respectively. A wind-blown young cane takes periodic up-and-down motion when it is broken off. The mean motion frequency of young canes of the kiwifruit vines was found to be about 4.5Hz.
The content of total and individual anthocyanins in the wild vines (Vitis amurensis Ruprecht), which were wildly grown in the mountain area of Korea, has been carried out. The pigments were extracted with 0.1% hydrochloric acid in methanol from the wild vines and the content of the total anthocyanin in the extract was determined spectrophotometrically at 538nm $({\lambda}max.)$. Individual anthocyanins in the extract were separated by paper chromatography and eluted with 0.1% HCl in methanol. The optical densities of the individual pigment solutions were determined at each absorption maxima of the pigments. The content of total anthocyanins in wild vines was 3.95mg per 1g fresh weight. The content of individual pigments were as follows: 12.5% delphinidin 3-monoglucoside. 3,5 % petunidin 3-monoglucoside, 2.1% cyanidin 3-monoglucoside, 10.1% delphinidin 3,5-diglucoside, 4.3% malvidin 3-monoglucoside, 8.3% petunidin 3,5-diglucoside, 4.1% cyanidin 3,5-diglucoside like and 55.1% malvidin 3,5-diglucoside. It was found that the most abundant pigment in wild vines studied was malvidin-3,5-diglucoside.
The studies on the structure of anthocyanins in wild vines have beer carried out. The pigments were extracted with 0.5% HCl in methanol from the wild vines which were wildly grown in the mountain area of Korea and purified with Amberlite IRC-50 canon exchange resin. The individual pigments were separated by paper chromatography. Sever. pigments were identified by partial acid hydrolysis, sugar moiety, alkaline degradation, $R_f$ values of paper chromatography in various solvents and absorption spectra in the visible region. The identified pigments were delphinidin 3-monoglucoside, petunidin 3-monoglucoside, cyanidin 3-monoglucoside, delphinidin 3, 5-diglucoside, malvidin 3-monoglucoside, petunidin 3, 5 diglucoside and malvidin 3, 5-diglucoside.
The present study was carried out to elucidate the effect of girdling on the quality and harvest date of the 'Shigyoku' grapes. Among girdled vines, the interval from full bloom to harvest date was 77 days; this was as much as seven days shorter in vines receiving a 20% girdling treatment. With regards to fruit characteristics, significant differences were observed in cluster length, berry number, and berry weight in vines that received girdling treatments. There were also significant differences in cluster weight; 468.2 g, 491.6 g and 504.9 g in the control group, 10% girdling group, and 20% girdling group, respectively. Thus, the use of girdling treatments is an effective approach to increasing cluster weight by 5% in the 10% girdling treatment and 8% in the 20% girdling treatment. The 10% girdling treatment showed significant difference in terms of titrable acidity; in fact, the overall titrable acidity was relatively high among all the girdling treatments. The concentration of anthocyanin increased in 20% girdling treatment, but there were no significant differences in anthocyanin concentration among girdling treatments. Berry color developed rapidly in vines that received girdling treatment.

The objective of this study is on suggesting the simulation model of 10 selected plants for the traffic noise barrier through field experiment by computer. The field experiment was carried out at the traffic noise barrier of Honam highway. The results are as follows. 1. It was identified that Paederia scandens, Celastrus Orbiculatus, Lonicera japonica, Wisteria floribunda, Parthenocissus tricuspidata and Parthenocissus quinquefolia grows well vertically and takes 3 years in covering completely. 2. It was identified that Trachelospermum asiaticum and Hedera rhombea, evergreen Climber(vine), grows slowly in comparative with other deciduous Climbers(vine), but give drivers good landscapes in winter. So those have considerable value in the south region of Taejeon. 3. It was identified that Wisteria jl.oribunda, Lonicera japonica, Paederia scandens, Clematis mandschurica and Campsis grandijlora showed good view in flowering period. 4. It was identified that auxiliary materials for inducing growth were needed in other plants except Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Parthenocissus quinquefolia. 5. It was identified that subsequent research about the auxiliary materials for inducing growth and adequate planting distance of each plants is needed for actual application.
A severe root rot of kiwifruit caused by a species of Phytophthora occurred in 1-to 5-year-old vines at the south coast region of Korea in 1997. Infected vines exhibited leaf chlorosis, scorch and defoliation, root and stem rot, and eventual death. The disease was relatively severe in poorly drained lowlands, of which 19 out of 23 fields were damaged by the disease. Meanwhile, only one among 58 upland fields was infected by the disease. Incidence of infected vines reached over 80% in heavily damaged fields and a species of Phytophthora was isolated from inner tissues of roots, stems, and rhizosphere soils of the plants. The causal pathogen was identified as P. drechsleri based on its mycological characteristics. Pathogenicity of the fungus was confirmed by artificial inoculation to seedlings of kiwifruit 'Hayward'. The pathogen was re-isolated from the inoculated plants showing symptoms similar to those observed in the fields. Root rot of kiwifruit caused by P. drechsleri has not been reported previously in Korea.
