Structural Safety Assessments for Viewing Window of Semi-Submersible Catamaran (반 잠수형 쌍동선에 설치된 수중관람용 관람창 설계 및 구조 안전성 평가)

  • In the design process of ship or its comprising components, the key to the successful design is how to guarantee the structural safety satisfying the international standard and regulation, which sometimes is not clear enough to cover the detail designs. This study deals with the design procedure for submersible viewing window installed in catamaran. As the window material, the Plexiglass, a type of reinforced plastic, is considered to satisfy the design requirements of international standard. Window thickness is calculated using geometric nonlinear finite element analysis, in order to take into account possible large deformation due to low stiffness of the Plexiglass, and the results are compared with those determined by the procedure specified in ISO12216. Finally, for the validation of proposed design, the pressure test had been carried out following the procedure specified in the standard, and structural safety was checked.

The Past Landscapes of Gyeong-Po Lake (경포호의 옛모습 추정- 기록자료를 중심으로 -)

  • Due to the pressures from surrounding conditions, the current Gyeong-Po Lake has been loosing its original appearance. Historically, the value of Gyeong-Po Lake has been highlighted at the Ru-Jeongs, which were once used to enjoy the various lakeside landscapes. However, the changes in physical appearance of the lake surroundings have ruined the value of the Ru-Jeongs, and even more changed the view point. As an initiating effort to reestablish and to manage the traditional visual landscapes of the lake, this study puts its emphasis on the traditional point of view. Also, this study tries to find the traditional visual values that are not visible at the current time, based on historic literature such as historic documents, paintings and poems. One of the important findings of this study is that viewing the different landscapes was more highly valued than their physical configurations in historic literatures, and that the focal points in viewing landscape were the Ru-Jeongs(누정). Hence, this study suggests that it is necessary to set the Ru-Jeongs, including Gyeong-Po(경포), Bang-Hye(방해), Hwan-Sun(환선), and Ho-Hae(호해), as the focal points for viewing the landscapes in order to reestablish and manage the traditional landscapes of Gyeong-Po Lake.

Electro-Optic Characteristics of the Fringe-Field driven Reflective Hybrid Aligned Nematic Liquid Crystal Display (Fringe-Field 구동형 반사형 Hybrid Aligned Nematic 액정 디스플레이의 전기-광학 특성)

  • We have performed computer simulation and experiment to obtain electro-optic characteristics of reflective hybrid aligned nematic (R-HAN) cell driven by fringe field, in which the cell consists of polarizer, optical compensation film, LC layer and reflector. Conventional R-HAN cell driven by fringe field using only the LC layer shows high wavelength dispersion at dark-state and thus viewing angle characteristic is strongly wavelength-dependent. In order to improve this demerit, we added one optical compensation film to conventional R-HAN cell. The display with optimized cell parameters shows low wavelength dispersion at dark-state and exhibits a wide viewing angle without the occurrence of grey scale inversion over a wide range of viewing angles and the contrast ratio greater than 5 over exists about 120$^{\circ}$ in vortical direction and 160$^{\circ}$in horizontal direction. Experimental results show good agreements with theoretical results and fast response time.

  • This paper represents the design of 3D endoscopic image processing system in order to Improve visualization and enhance the ability of the surgeon to perform delicate endoscopic surgery. The proposed 3D systems have four features of stereo endoscopic image processing The multiplexer give field seauential stereo for recording and for aligning cameras and viewing stereo with 3D monitor. Demultiplexing of the field sequential image which separates out the R and L images for dual TFT-LCD 3D monitor viewed with passive polarized glasses. separable processing of the left and right eye images, and design of TFT-LCD 3D monitor. The viewing angle, zone, and image quality of the Polarization-type Stereoscopic Display (SM500TFT-3D) system which we have developed using 15 Samsung TFT-1.CD with a screen resolution of 1024×768 pixels were measured and compared with those of Electric Shutter-type Stereoscopic Display system. The result of experiments shows that the Polarization-type Stereoscopic Display System using TFT-LCD has a wade viewing angle and zone which Is necessary fort multi-view and it has better image quality and stability of the optical performances than the Electric Shutter-type does.

The Effect of TV News Brand Image on News Viewing Intentions: On the Functional and Symbolic Brand Attributes (TV 뉴스 브랜드 이미지가 시청의도에 미치는 영향 :상징적 속성과 기능적 속성을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to investigate the brand image of Korean TV news in terms of functional and symbolic attributes, to examine their interrelationships and their effect on audience' viewing intentions. A survey was conducted on 412 evening main news viewers of KBS1, SBS, and JTBC, and factor analysis and regression analysis were used. The results show that TV news brand personality was composed of three dimensions including enterprising, sincerity, and tradition. JTBC showed the highest mean value in terms of enterprising and sincerity over SBS and KBS1, and the lowest in tradition. The symbolic and functional attributes of the TV news brand image are highly correlated. Finally, the viewing intentions were determined in the order of news brand functional benefit, sincerity and enterprising personality factor.

The effects of the components of a fashion show on viewing satisfaction (패션쇼 관람만족에 영향을 미치는 패션쇼구성요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify how the components of a fashion show can influence the perception of the spectators, and what the spectators most like in a fashion show. Through the analysis on the literature reviews and in-depth interviews with professional's organizing fashion shows we established a list of the main components, which allowed us to set up a questionnaire. The results regarding the viewing satisfaction of the spectators at a fashion show were investigated and came out as follows: First, the components of fashion show are generally viewed to be four factors: the program, the directing, the model, and the sets. These four factors are influencing the perception of the spectators and are very important to the success of a fashion show and the enjoyment of a fashion show by spectators. Second, it is shown to us that the most influential factor for the perception is 'the directing'(stage scenery, background music, lighting, effects etc.), and the next is 'the sets'(convenience seat, display, service facilities etc.). So, in order to raise the level of satisfaction for the spectators, it is advisable to concentrate on these two main factors. Finally, we would suggest that the organizer of a fashion show shall carefully analyze how spectators understand and perceive the components of a fashion show. This study provides information about how the components of a fashion show can influence the spectator's perception and presents suggestions on how to improve a fashion show by reorienting it towards the satisfaction of the spectator. In addition, there needs to be a strategy by customer satisfaction experience to reinforce a customer-oriented fashion show and heighten a viewing satisfaction for spectators.

A Study on Leisure Life in Accordance with Gender (성별에 따른 여가생활에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information necessary for improving the satisfaction and quality of leisure life and thereon propose better leisure life programs in accordance with gender. For the purpose, this researcher made a questionnaire survey of 560 persons between July and December 2003 to know the trend and satisfaction of their leisure life in accordance with their gender. Results of the study can be summarized as below; First. the extent to which the surveyed persons participated in leisure life was highest in terms of other leisure activities, followed by self-development. viewing activities, sports activities and journey in order. The satisfaction of leisure life participation by those surveyed persons was scored 3 or over in average, meaning 'generally satisfied'. The time of leisure life participation was most spent in other leisure activities and self-development. Expenses of the participation were highest in terms of other leisure activities. followed by self-development and viewing activities in order. Second, differences in sub-areas of leisure life were analyzed in accordance with gender to show that the degree and time of participation in viewing activities and self-development, expenses of sports activity participation and the degree of participation in journey and others were significantly different between the opposite sexes which were surveyed here. Men were higher in the degree, time and expenses of the participation than women. Third. effects of gender on the satisfaction of leisure life as a whole were determined here to show that men were higher in such satisfaction when they were more satisfactorily participating in sport activities while in case of women, when they were spending more time in sport activities. Women showed a higher satisfaction of leisure life as a whole when they were more frequently and satisfactorily participating in other leisure activities. Based on these results, the researcher proposed effective leisure life programs in accordance with gender.

Criterion Suggestion on Relative Disparity, Viewing Distance and Viewing Angle to Minimize 3D Visual Fatigue for Pattern-Retarded Type 3D Display (편광식 3D 디스플레이를 위한 상대적 시차, 시청 거리, 시청 방위에서의 시각피로 최소화 기준 제안)

  • 3D visual fatigue is known as one of the most important factors that interfere the commercial success of 3D contents. Vergence-accommodation conflict, which is known to occur when an observer watches an image containing binocular disparity presented on a 3D display, has been suggested as a major cause of 3D visual fatigue. This implies that any image incorporating binocular disparity might cause 3D visual fatigue. In order to reduce 3D visual fatigue, it would be necessary to consider indirect ways of reducing 3D visual fatigue as well as eliminating the direct causes of 3D visual fatigue. We have examined the effect of the variables that are expected to affect subjective 3D visual fatigue and these variables included the relative disparity contained in an image, viewing distance and viewing angle. We have also figured out the proper levels of the variables required to minimize 3D visual fatigue. The results indicate that observers began to report significant 3D visual fatigue when the crossed disparity contained in an image exceeded 7.22' and the vertical viewing angle was larger than 15 degree.

Prediction of a hit drama with a pattern analysis on early viewing ratings (초기 시청시간 패턴 분석을 통한 대흥행 드라마 예측)

  • The impact of TV Drama success on TV Rating and the channel promotion effectiveness is very high. The cultural and business impact has been also demonstrated through the Korean Wave. Therefore, the early prediction of the blockbuster success of TV Drama is very important from the strategic perspective of the media industry. Previous studies have tried to predict the audience ratings and success of drama based on various methods. However, most of the studies have made simple predictions using intuitive methods such as the main actor and time zone. These studies have limitations in predicting. In this study, we propose a model for predicting the popularity of drama by analyzing the customer's viewing pattern based on various theories. This is not only a theoretical contribution but also has a contribution from the practical point of view that can be used in actual broadcasting companies. In this study, we collected data of 280 TV mini-series dramas, broadcasted over the terrestrial channels for 10 years from 2003 to 2012. From the data, we selected the most highly ranked and the least highly ranked 45 TV drama and analyzed the viewing patterns of them by 11-step. The various assumptions and conditions for modeling are based on existing studies, or by the opinions of actual broadcasters and by data mining techniques. Then, we developed a prediction model by measuring the viewing-time distance (difference) using Euclidean and Correlation method, which is termed in our study similarity (the sum of distance). Through the similarity measure, we predicted the success of dramas from the viewer's initial viewing-time pattern distribution using 1~5 episodes. In order to confirm that the model is shaken according to the measurement method, various distance measurement methods were applied and the model was checked for its dryness. And when the model was established, we could make a more predictive model using a grid search. Furthermore, we classified the viewers who had watched TV drama more than 70% of the total airtime as the "passionate viewer" when a new drama is broadcasted. Then we compared the drama's passionate viewer percentage the most highly ranked and the least highly ranked dramas. So that we can determine the possibility of blockbuster TV mini-series. We find that the initial viewing-time pattern is the key factor for the prediction of blockbuster dramas. From our model, block-buster dramas were correctly classified with the 75.47% accuracy with the initial viewing-time pattern analysis. This paper shows high prediction rate while suggesting audience rating method different from existing ones. Currently, broadcasters rely heavily on some famous actors called so-called star systems, so they are in more severe competition than ever due to rising production costs of broadcasting programs, long-term recession, aggressive investment in comprehensive programming channels and large corporations. Everyone is in a financially difficult situation. The basic revenue model of these broadcasters is advertising, and the execution of advertising is based on audience rating as a basic index. In the drama, there is uncertainty in the drama market that it is difficult to forecast the demand due to the nature of the commodity, while the drama market has a high financial contribution in the success of various contents of the broadcasting company. Therefore, to minimize the risk of failure. Thus, by analyzing the distribution of the first-time viewing time, it can be a practical help to establish a response strategy (organization/ marketing/story change, etc.) of the related company. Also, in this paper, we found that the behavior of the audience is crucial to the success of the program. In this paper, we define TV viewing as a measure of how enthusiastically watching TV is watched. We can predict the success of the program successfully by calculating the loyalty of the customer with the hot blood. This way of calculating loyalty can also be used to calculate loyalty to various platforms. It can also be used for marketing programs such as highlights, script previews, making movies, characters, games, and other marketing projects.

Content-based Video Information Retrieval and Streaming System using Viewpoint Invariant Regions

  • This paper caters the need of acquiring the principal objects, characters, and scenes from a video in order to entertain the image based query. The movie frames are divided into frames with 2D representative images called "key frames". Various regions in a key frame are marked as key objects according to their textures and shapes. These key objects serve as a catalogue of regions to be searched and matched from rest of the movie, using viewpoint invariant regions calculation, providing the location, size, and orientation of all the objects occurring in the movie in the form of a set of structures collaborating as video profile. The profile provides information about occurrences of every single key object from every frame of the movie it exists in. This information can further ease streaming of objects over various network-based viewing qualities. Hence, the method provides an effective reduced profiling approach of automatic logging and viewing information through query by example (QBE) procedure, and deals with video streaming issues at the same time.
