Videoconferencing technology is increasingly used in classrooms to introduce children to people from other countries and cultures in order to provide a wider learning experience. However, with traditional screen-based video conferencing technology, research has shown that it is easy for students to miss non-verbal cues that play a key role in developing human relationships. To investigate how children interact differently when their interactions are mediated through screen-based video communication versus robot-mediated communication, we conducted a study with elementary students in Korea, comparing the use of both technologies to introduce classroom students with peer-aged individuals in America. Our findings show that the children displayed more positive emotions during certain tasks and exhibited more interest and intimacy to remote participants in the context of robot-mediated communication than with video-mediated communication.

The purpose of this research is to identify the critical factors influencing on the continuous use of video telephony service for mobile devices. An empirical analysis has been performed by using service quality, brand image, price, fun as influencing factors, and satisfaction and commitment as mediating factors. The partial least squares(PLS) methodology with 228 questionnaires has been conducted. The results indicated that brand image, price, and fun were mediated by satisfaction and commitment to have a statistically significant influence on continuous use of video telephony service. Service quality showed a significant effect on continuous use mediated by satisfaction while it did not show any influence through commitment. Based on the results, companies in the communication service industry should consider and focus on the improved brand image, appropriate fees, and individual preferences for fun for the successful marketing activities, and should also maintain amicable relations with their customers.
The purpose of this study is to explore the emotions of Facebook. Various types of emotions are being exchanged on Facebook. The emotional reactions make the Facebook different from previous electronic bulletin board. According to previous researches, computer-mediated communication can deliver visual symbols and non-verbal cues to enhance the abundance of meanings. Data were collected from 205 Facebook users and the number of users' posts were total 10308. The contents analysis was conducted to explore emotions of the 10308 Facebook posts. The results showed that the most frequent emotion was pleasure. The emotional distributions were different according to the contents types; text, video, photo, and link. For the text content type, emotion of curiosity was apparent and for the photo content type, emotion of love was more frequent than others, and for the video content type, emotion of surprise was salient. The results of the analysis for the shared contents also revealed that pleasure and hope were more frequent emotions than other emotions.
The current study investigated the effect of user interface design on metaverse user's objective task performance, perceived usefulness, presence, and enjoyment. Using a 2 × 2 within-subject repeated measure experimental design, we found that users perceived the interface to be significantly more useful when additional visual cues existed and performed better for the given task. Additionally, a repeated-measure mediation analysis revealed that the effect of richer information in the interface on users' enjoyment as a function of need satisfaction was mediated by perceived usefulness. Theoretical and practical implication are derived from the result of the current study.

Recent trends in sharing online video contents show that vlogging on everyday life can cause meaningful changes in viewers' perception of mediated characters and their own lifestyles. We explored that flourishing everyday life video contents online are intertwined with viewers' psychological engagement such as empathy and social presence, let alone self-enhancing motivations such as self-reflection and psychological empowerment. Survey analysis results suggest that between contents types of vlog (everyday life vs. in-depth information), watching in-depth information videos significantly affected viewers' psychological engagement and self-enhancing motivations. Compared to celebrity's online videos, daily videos starring laypeople showed significantly positive impacts on viewers' engagement such as empathy, social presence, and self-enhancement such as self-reflection, psychological empowerment.
The recent developments of audio/video technology in the ubiquitous media have resulted in a variety of formal feature such as screen sizes for media and the new viewing environment can alter television viewers' experience of mediated communication. So the concern about formal feature of media itself is increasing in the recent media effects studies. From this point of view, this study is conducted to test the effect of the different monitor size of DMB Phone(2'1"), PMP(4'3") and PC monitor(19') on the viewers' memory and emotion of content by experimental research. The results showed that the effect by monitor size on the view's memory and emotion is significant. And watching moving image on a bigger monitor resulted in better memory of visual message elements contained in the content and more favorable emotion of the content.
Cartoons and consequently animation are an effective way of visualizing futuristic scenarios. Here we look at how animation is becoming ubiquitous and an integral part of this future today: the cybernetic and mediated society that we are being transformed into. Animation therefore becomes a form of speech between humans and this networked reality, either as an interface or as representation that gives temporal form to objects. Animation or specifically animated films usually are associated with character based short and feature films, fiction or nonfiction. However animation is not constricted to traditional cinematic formats and language, the same way that design and communication have become treated as separate fields, however according to $Vil{\acute{e}}m$ Flusser they aren't. The same premise can be applied to animation in a networked culture: Animation has become an intrinsic to design processes and products - as in motion graphics, interface design and three-dimensional visualization. Video-games, virtual reality, map based apps and social networks constitute layers of an expanded universe that embodies our network based culture. They are products of design and media disciplines that are increasingly relying on animation as a universal language suited to multi-cultural interactions carried in digital ambients. In this sense animation becomes a discourse, the same way as Roland Barthes describes myth as a type of speech. With the objective of exploring the role of animation as a design tool, the proposed research intends to develop transmedia creative visual strategies using animation both as narrative and as an user interface.
