  • In this paper, we present two types of digital image stabilization (DIS) schemes for mobile video communications. In the first scheme, the DIS system, which is used as a preprocessor of the video encoder, compensates the camera’s undesirable shakes before encoding. This method can reduce the bit rate of encoded video sequence by attenuating the prediction error to be encoded. In the second proposed scheme, the DIS system is coupled with the video decoder. The second scheme uses the K-means clustering algorithm to estimate the camera motion using motion vectors decoded from the received video stream. Simulation results show that the first scheme improves coding efficiency, while the second scheme is computationally efficient since it does not require motion estimation.

  • Background: Multiple rib fractures are common in blunt chest trauma. Until recently, most surgical rib fixations for multiple rib fractures were performed via open thoracotomy. However, due to the invasive nature of tissue dissection and the resulting large wound, an alternative endoscopic approach has emerged that minimizes the postoperative complications caused by the manipulation of injured tissue and lung during an open thoracotomy. Methods: Our study concentrated on patients with multiple rib fractures who underwent surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) between June 2018 and May 2020. We found 27 patients who underwent SSRF using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The study design was a retrospective review of the patients' charts and surgical records. Results: No intraoperative events or procedure-related deaths occurred. Implant-related irritation occurred in 4 patients, and 1 death resulted from concomitant trauma. The average hospital stay was 30.2±20.1 days, and ventilators were used for 12 of the 22 patients admitted to the intensive care unit. None of the patients experienced major pulmonary complications such as pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome. Conclusion: Minimally invasive rib stabilization surgery with the assistance of a thoracoscope is expected to become more widely used in patients with multiple rib fractures. This method will also assist patients in a quick recovery.

  • Distributed compressed video sensing (DCVS) is a framework that integrates both compressed sensing and distributed video coding characteristics to achieve a low complexity video sampling. In DCVS schemes, motion estimation & motion compensation is employed at the decoder side, similarly to distributed video coding (DVC), for a low-complex encoder. However, since a simple BCS-SPL algorithm is applied to a residual arising from motion estimation and compensation in conventional MC-BCS-SPL (motion compensated block compressed sensing with smoothed projected Landweber) scheme, the reconstructed visual qualities are severly degraded in Wyner-Ziv (WZ) frames. Furthermore, the scheme takes lots of iteration to reconstruct WZ frames. In this paper, the conventional MC-BCS-SPL algorithm is improved to be operated in more effective way in WZ frames. That is, first, the proposed algorithm calculates a correlation coefficient between two reference key frames and, then, by selecting adaptively the reference frame, the residual reconstruction in pixel domain is performed to the conventional BCS-SPL scheme. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves significantly better visual qualities than conventional MC-BCS-SPL algorithm, while resulting in the significant reduction of the decoding time.

  • In this paper, we propose design of a high-performance vehicle imaging information system for an efficient vehicle imaging stabilization. The proposed system was designed the algorithm by divided as motion estimation and motion compensation. The motion estimation were configured as local motion vector estimation and irregular local motion vector detection, global motion vector estimation. The motion compensation was corrected for the four directions for compensate to the shake of vehicle video image using estimate GMV. The designed algorithm were designed the motion compensation technology chip by applied to IP for vehicle imaging stabilization. In this paper, the experimental results of the proposed vehicle imaging information system were proved to the effectiveness by compared with other methods, because imaging stabilization of moving vehicle was not used of memory by processing real-time. Also, it could be obtained to reduction effect of calculation time by arithmetic operation through to block matching.

  • In this paper, we proposed a shaking image stabilization algorithm using deep learning. The proposed algorithm utilizes deep learning, unlike some 2D, 2.5D and 3D based stabilization techniques. The proposed algorithm is an algorithm that extracts and compares features of shaky images through CNN network structure and LSTM network structure, and transforms images in reverse order of movement size and direction of feature points through the difference of feature point between previous frame and current frame. The algorithm for stabilizing the shake is implemented by using CNN network and LSTM structure using Tensorflow for feature extraction and comparison of each frame. Image stabilization is implemented by using OpenCV open source. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can be used to stabilize the camera shake stability in the up, down, left, and right shaking images.

  • To guarantee client buffer stabilization and visual quality, the VOD service that provides real time video titles on requirements of numerous users, needs a mechanism which transfers frames with dropping or skipping algorithm by network condition. In this paper, we show an algorithm that transfers withdrawed skipped MPEG frames(I, P, B frame) from disk to client dependent on network load. Moreover, we verify through a simulation that adaptive dealing on network load can reduce the network load and stabilize client receiving buffer.

  • This paper presents a method, Exposure Controlled Temporal Filtering (ECF), applied to visual motion tracking, that can cancel the temporal aliasing of periodic vibrations of cameras and fluctuations in illumination through the control of exposure time. We first present a theoretical analysis of the exposure induced image time integration process and how it samples sensor impingent light that is periodically fluctuating. Based on this analysis we develop a simple method to cancel high frequency vibrations that are temporally aliased onto sampled image sequences and thus to subsequent motion tracking measurements. Simulations and experiments using the 'Center of Gravity' and Normalized Cross-Correlation motion tracking methods were performed on a microscopic motion tracking system to validate the analytical predictions.
