  • The application of Augmented Reality(AR) technology is visible in medical procedures, education, marketing, and journalism. By experimenting, this study examines how the evaluation of the three elements of augmented reality news contents(visual image, storytelling, interactivity) affects immersion and information acquisition. Specifically, a 2 (video technology: AR vs. general) × 2 (news type: disaster vs. sports) between-subject design was examined. Results showed that the evaluation of all three elements was higher when viewing AR news than when viewing general news. The level of immersion was higher when viewing AR news, and the evaluation of storytelling and interactivity had positive effect on the level of immersion regardless of the news types. However, the evaluation of visual images did not affect the level of immersion. Information acquisition was higher after viewing AR news, yet the effect of the evaluation of the three elements on information acquisition had not been found. Implication and discussion of the study were added in the end.

  • The $360^{\circ}$ video has a lot of image information and usefulness; however, the position of the audio source judged by hearing is different from the position on the screen. Therefore, human feels tired, the immersion decrease and user cant watch the video for Moreer time. In this paper, the concordance rate of the video and the audio localization is defined. The rate is expressed in a percentage. It means how much the system makes the sound localization real according to the position of the source on the screen. With this rate, the audio localization performance of immersive audio producing and playing system can be evaluated. It will be helpful for developers to make the higher performance system and expected to contribute to make makinguality system with reality.

  • The MPEG immersive video (MIV) coding standard achieved high compression efficiency by removing inter-view redundancy and merging the residuals of immersive video which consists of multiple texture (color) and geometry (depth) pairs. Grouping of views that represent similar spaces enables quality improvement and implementation of selective streaming, but this has not been actively discussed recently. This paper introduces an implementation of group-based encoding into the recent version of MIV reference software, provides experimental results on optimal views and videos per group, and proposes a decision method for optimal number of videos for global immersive video representation by using portion of residual videos.

  • A technique is described for producing a virtual object with realistic motion. A 3-D human motion model is obtained by applying a developed motion capturing technique to a real human in motion. Factorization method is a technique for recovering 3-D shape of a rigid object from a single video image stream without using camera parameters. The technique is extended for recovering 3-D human motions. The proposed system is composed of three fixed cameras which take video images of a human motion. Three obtained image sequences are analyzed to yield measurement matrices at individual sampling times, and they are merged into a single measurement matrix to which the factorization is applied and the 3-D human motion is recovered ...

  • The possibility of interactivity of digital media environment is adopted in human expression system and integrates the dynamic aspect of digital technology with expressive structure, thereby transforming the paradigm of image acceptance as well as image expression range. Virtual reality images have an important meaning in that they are changing the one-way mechanism of production and acceptance of images that lead to producers-video-audiences beyond the problem of verisimilitude such as how vividly they simulate reality. First of all, the virtual reality image is not one-sided but interactive image composed by the user. Viewing a virtual reality image does not just see the camera shine, but it gets the same view as in the real world. Therefore, the image that was controlled through framing changes to be configured positively by the user. This implies a change in the paradigm of image acceptance as well as a change in the existing form of the image itself. In addition, the narrative structure of the image and the subjects that are formed in the process are also required to be discussed. In the virtual reality image, the user 's gaze is a fusion of the gaze inside the image and the gaze outside the image. This is because the position of the user as the subject of the gaze in the virtual reality image is continuously restricted by the device of the discourse such as the editing and the narration of the shot. The significance of the virtual reality image is not aesthetically perfect but it is reconstructed according to the user to reflect the existence of the user positively and engage the user in the image.

  • This paper describes two user studies in remote collaboration between two users with a video conferencing system where a remote user can draw annotations on the live video of the local user's workspace. In these two studies, the local user had the control of the view when sharing the first-person view, but our interfaces provided instant control of the shared view to the remote users. The first study investigates methods for assisting drawing annotations. The auto-freeze method, a novel solution for drawing annotations, is compared to a prior solution (manual freeze method) and a baseline (non-freeze) condition. Results show that both local and remote users preferred the auto-freeze method, which is easy to use and allows users to quickly draw annotations. The manual-freeze method supported precise drawing, but was less preferred because of the need for manual input. The second study explores visual notification for better local user awareness. We propose two designs: the red-box and both-freeze notifications, and compare these to the baseline, no notification condition. Users preferred the less obtrusive red-box notification that improved awareness of when annotations were made by remote users, and had a significantly lower level of interruption compared to the both-freeze condition.

  • The moving picture experts group (MPEG) developed the MPEG immersive video (MIV) standard for efficient compression of multiple immersive videos representing natural contents and computer graphics. The MIV compresses multiple immersive videos and generates multiple output videos which are defined as atlases. However, there is a synchronization issue of multiple decoders in a legacy device when decoding multiple encoded atlases. This paper proposes and implements the geometry packing method for adaptive control of decoder instances for low-end and high-end devices. The proposed method on the recent version of the MIV reference software worked correctly.
