  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an educational video program on bowel preparation for a colonoscopy. Methods: The study used a non-equivalent control group and non-synchronized design as a quasi-experimental research involving 101 participants undergoing bowel preparation for a colonoscopy (experimental group 51, control group 50 subjects) at W. university hospital, from Aug. 7 to Oct. 31, 2013. The control group received verbal education with an explanatory note while the experimental group received education using a video program. To measure knowledge of diet restrictions and compliance with ingesting bowel preparation solutions, a questionnaire, based on The Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy's Guide (2003), developed by Sam-Sook You, was used after revisions and supplementation was done. To measure bowel cleanness, the 'Aronchick Bowel Preparation Scale' was adopted. Data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results: A higher proportion of the experimental group showed a positive change in knowledge level on diet restrictions (U=1011.50, p =.035) and ingestion of bowel preparation solutions (U=980.50, p =.019), a higher level of compliance with diet restrictions (U=638.50, p <.001), ingesting bowel preparation solutions (U=668.00, p <.001) and the level of bowel cleanness (${\chi}^2$=17.00, p <.001) than the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that a video educational program for patients having a colonoscopy can improve knowledge, level of compliance with diet restrictions, ingestion of bowel preparation solutions, and bowel cleanness. Therefore video educational program should be used with this patient group.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and apply a video dietary instruction program for hemodialysis patients to understand dietary compliance as well as the effect on the physiological indicator. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study of a nonequivalent control group pre-post test design. Data were collected from August 6, 2012 to January 10, 2013. Twenty patients were assigned to an experimental group and twenty-one patients were assigned to a control group. A video dietary instruction program was developed and applied only to the experimental group once a week for a total of 8 weeks. Dietary compliance and physiological indicators were subsequently measured. Results: Dietary compliance was improved in both groups over time. There was no significant change in the physiological indicator value in both groups, indicating that there was no correlation between the treatment type and time. Conclusion: The video dietary instruction program could not make a statistically significant change on the physiological indicator value of the experimental group; however, this change was maintained within the allowable limits. Therefore, the video dietary instruction program can be utilized continuously as a standardized nursing intervention program in order to maintain the dietary compliance of hemodialysis patients.

  • Purpose: This study presents the development of a group video communication-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program for depressed pregnant women. It also provides the results of a preliminary test of its effects on their depression, automatic thoughts, and dysfunctional attitudes. Methods: In this quasi-experimental single-group pre- and posttest design study, 13 pregnant women participated in a 4-week, eight-session group CBT program, based on Beck's cognitive theory and using video communications from November 2020 to January 2021. Pregnant women between 14 and 32 weeks who were members of an online maternity and parenting community and residing in the cities of Changwon and Gimhae, Korea, were invited to voluntarily participate. Trained nurses led CBT sessions of 3-4 participants per group via video communication. Participants were assessed pre- and postintervention with self-report questionnaires for measurement of depression, automatic thought, and dysfunctional attitude after normality test according to the Shapiro-Wilk test of the variables. The data were analyzed using paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Depression (t=7.90, p<.001), automatic thoughts (t=4.89, p<.001), and dysfunctional attitudes (t=2.42, p=.032) significantly decreased after the 4-week online program. There were statistically significant correlations among the three variables. Conclusion: This program was found to be effective in reducing depression, automatic thoughts, and dysfunctional attitudes. Above findings suggest that a group CBT program using video communication can be an effective therapeutic modality that helps pregnant women at risk for depression alleviate their negative emotions related to depression.

  • In this paper, we propose a classification system of TV program scenes based on audio information. The system classifies the video scene into six categories of commercials, basketball games, football games, news reports, weather forecasts and music videos. Two type of audio feature set are extracted from each audio frame-timbral features and coefficient domain features which result in 58-dimensional feature vector. In order to reduce the computational complexity of the system, 58-dimensional feature set is further optimized to yield l0-dimensional features through Sequential Forward Selection (SFS) method. This down-sized feature set is finally used to train and classify the given TV program scenes using κ -NN, Gaussian pattern matching algorithm. The classification result of 91.6% reported here shows the promising performance of the video scene classification based on the audio information. Finally, the system stability problem corresponding to different query length is investigated.

  • This research investigated television and video viewing of young children in early childhood all-day program settings and teachers' recognition of its effects on young children through the survey of 452 early childhood teachers. The results show that television and video viewing is used as a whole group activity during transition period and/or waiting time activity for children who come earlier in the morning and remain late until closing time. It means television and video viewing at early childhood settings is mainly used as a group baby sitter or pacifier. Daily viewing time is about 44.02 minutes and early childhood teachers show low recognition of their role in children's viewing habits. Young children's viewing patterns and time are differed by teachers' variables so that young children of beginning teachers at small size settings appear more viewing time. Teachers show more negative recognition of television and video viewing on young children when they are older and have higher educational level and longer education experiences. The results also show that the more teachers have positive recognition on television and video viewing, the more young children are exposed to television and video viewing in their classes.

  • Over the past 30 years, many efficient 2D video coding techniques have been presented and developed from many research centers for commercialization. However, direct application of these monocular compression schemes is not optimal for stereo video coding. In this paper, we present a new technique for coding stereo video sequences based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The proposed technique exploits Zerotree Entropy Coding (ZTE) that makes use of the wavelet block concept to achieve low bit rate stereo video coding. The one of two image streams, called main stream, is independently coded by modified MPEG-4 encoder and the other stream, called auxiliary stream, is coded by predicting from its corresponding image, its previous image or its follow image.
