A Virtual Environment for Optimal use of Video Analytic of IP Cameras and Feasibility Study (IP 카메라의 VIDEO ANALYTIC 최적 활용을 위한 가상환경 구축 및 유용성 분석 연구)

  • In recent years, researches regarding optimal placement of CCTV(Closed-circuit Television) cameras via architecture modeling has been conducted. However, for analyzing surveillance coverage through actual human movement, the application of VA(Video Analytics) function of IP(Internet Protocol) cameras has not been studied. This paper compares two methods using data captured from real-world cameras and data acquired from a virtual environment. In using real cameras, we develop GUI(Graphical User Interface) to be used as a logfile which is stored hourly and daily through VA functions and to be used commercially for placement of products inside a shop. The virtual environment was constructed to emulate an real world such as the building structure and the camera with its specifications. Moreover, suitable placement of the camera is done by recognizing obstacles and the number of people counted within the camera's range of view. This research aims to solve time and economic constraints of actual installation of surveillance cameras in real-world environment and to do feasibility study of virtual environment.

  • 본 논문은 다수의 고객들에게 실시간 재생 서비스를 제공하는 주문형 비디오 서버에서 데이타 검색의 효율을 높이기 위한 저장 시스템의 구조와 그에 따른 배치 정책을 제안한다. 주문형 비디오 저장 서버에서 동시에 보다 많은 고객들에게 그들이 원하는 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 여러 분야에서의 다양한 정책들이 고려될 수 있으나, 특히 저장 매체들을 어떤 구조로 구성하고 여기에 비디오 객체들을 어떻게 배치할 것인가는 검색 효율과 직접 관계되는 중요한 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 디스크 배열 형태로 구성된 저장 시스템을 디스크 성능을 고려하여 재구성하고, 비디오 객체들을 저장할 때 저장하고자 하는 데이타의 특성들과 저장 구조를 함께 고려하여 검색 효율을 극대화할 수 있는 배치 방법을 제안한다. 마지막으로 제안된 정책의 검색 효율을 검증하기 위해 다양한 실험을 통하여 기존의 배치 정책들과 비교하고 성능을 평가한다.Abstract In this paper, we propose the structure of storage system and a placement policy to provide many clients with real-time playback services efficiently in VOD(video-on-demand) server. Though policies in various areas being considered to provide more clients with services of degree requested by them simultaneously in VOD storage server, it is important how to construct storage media and to place video objects on it for retrieval efficiency. In this paper, we reorganize a large disk array with disks performance and place video objects using the placement policy considering both characteristics of video data and the structure of storage system for maximizing retrieval efficiency. Lastly, we simulate the proposed policy and conventional policies through various environments, compare our policy with others n evaluate the performance of our policy.

An Effective Video Block Placement Strategy on VOD Storage Server with MZR Disks (MZR 디스크를 채택한 VOD 저장서버의 효율적인 비디오 블록 배치방법)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient video block Placement scheme that utilize the current disk product that has MZR disk characteristic and users' skewed access pattern on VOD. Also, we evaluate its performance through simulation and modeling of VOD server. The basic placement rule is to place on MZR disks by LP, SHP methods according to the Zipf distribution of popularity. To verify the proposed scheme, we examined its performance on workstation with 2 MZR disks under varied skewed factors. The proposed placement scheme showed better response time than the random method. To extend proposed placement scheme to disk group, we analyzed the theoretical maximum numbers of concurrent users and the required buffer size per user. For performance parameters for the proposed scheme, we considered the disk head scheduling methods, the placement methods and the striping unit. The result of experiments showed that the proposed scheme was effective.

  • 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 서버에서 특정 서버를 즉시 종료함으로써 에너지를 절약하는 기법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 서버 데이터 배치 기법은 현재 시스템의 부하를 파악하여 부하가 줄어들게 되어 특정 서버를 종료하여도 요청 부하를 충분히 서비스 가능할 경우 서버를 종료한다. 반대로 부하가 증가하게 되어 추가의 서버 사용이 필요하게 되면 서버의 전원을 켬으로써 서비스가 가능하도록 한다. 따라서 멀티미디어 서버의 성능을 최대한 유지하면서 에너지 소비를 크게 절약할 수 있다.

  • Even though digital video coding techniques have been developed very rapidly, rate controlling is still an unsolved problem. This paper presents a new scene adaptive video encoding scheme for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video encoders. Degradation of picture quality at scene changes due to poor prediction of global complexity measure is addressed. The proposed scheme determines the picture types adaptively based on scene contents of each video frame. The effective placement of reference and inter-reference frames is studied at sudden scene changes and gradual scene changes respectively. Results show that the proposed scheme demonstrates a significant improvement in performance compared to TM5〔1〕.

  • A study on the static type train simulator will include the training of new drives requires that the environment of the cab, controls placement, etc. must highly realistic so that driver can readily transfer his training experience to the real world. The simulator computer sends video disc speed command to a Video PC processor. A video switcher select the output of the on-line player. This selection is done with loss of vertical synchronization, meaning the picture will not noticeable roll or jump as the simulation mover from disc to disc. The video image quality remain contestant through the simulated speed range from zero to 100km/h. Flicker is avoided in the scene by the use of a TBC(Time Base Corrector) which causes the display of one video field at a time. Thus, no interfield jitter is present when the scene is stopped.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal camera placement using agent-based simulation. To derive importance of space and to cover the space efficiently, we accomplished an agent-based simulation based on classification of space and pattern analysis of moving people. We developed an agent-based camera placement method considering camera performance as well as space priority extracted from path finding algorithms. We demonstrate that the method not only determinates the optimal number of cameras, but also coordinates the position and orientation of the cameras with considering the installation costs. To validate the method, we compare simulation results with videos of real materials and show experimental results simulated in a specific space.

Anatomizing Popular YouTube Channels of English-speaking Countries

  • YouTube, the online video streaming platform, has become popular and influential around the globe. Due to the development of science and technology, people without expertise in filming can now easily produce their videos with unique content. Many people are more eager to become a popular YouTube creator because they can earn money by placing commercials or Products in Placement (PPL) in their video clips. However, it is yet unknown what genres of YouTube videos are popular. YouTube creators have their channels where they upload videos of a certain type of genre. This study investigates video genres of the top 250 YouTube channels in English-speaking countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia) using Social Blade, which is a research website. The ranking is set based on the number of times people watched a video ("Video Views"). We handsomely analyze popular genres of the channels and also the YouTube ecosystem, and it will be meaningful for today's new media era.

Assessment of the proficiency and usability of direct laryngoscopy and video laryngoscopy (직접 후두경과 비디오 후두경의 숙련도 및 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was conducted to assess the proficiency of both direct laryngoscopy and video laryngoscopy and the usefulness of each laryngoscope, thereby provide basic data for further education using video laryngoscopy. Methods: Forty one paramedic subjects participated in this study. Usability was measured with the System usability scale. The Macintosh direct laryngoscope and $C-MAC^{(R)}$ video laryngoscope were two instruments evaluated in the study. Results: Training with video laryngoscopy showed significantly better results within the categories of dental injury (p=.004), esophageal intubation (p=.001), and proper depth placement of intubation tubes (p=.019). The results of the System usability scale questionnaire and the degrees of visibility based on the Cormack & Lehane classification were also found to be better achieved with the video laryngoscopy (p=.000). Conclusion: This study suggests enhancing education with video laryngoscopy, which could reduce the risk of complications and duration of intubation while increasing the success rate among students and emergency medical technicians with little experience, rather than the existing method of only using direct laryngoscope, which requires considerable experience and skills.
