This study was to investigate whether there are any differences in social competence by the frequency of young children's video and computer game use. Social development was categorized as peer popularity and social competence. The subjects were 215 children(118 boys, 97 girls) aged 4-6 years(M= 63.6 months, SD=6.8) from 3 kindergartens in Chung-Cheong Nam Do. The frequency of children's video and computer game use was reported by their parents. Peer popularity was rated by their classmates and social competence by their teachers with Kohn Social Competence Scale(KSCS). No significant relationship was found between game use and peer popularity. The children who played video and computer games once or twice a week got the highest score on the‘social interest and participation’But social cooperation dimension was not related with the frequency of video and computer game use but with the sex of children.
In this paper, we develop a portable game device with uncompressed HD video and high quality sound output. Portable game devices support not only game function but also various complex functions recently. It especially supports TV-Out port to play realistic game, connecting a large screen display device. But the video and audio output signals of conventional TV-out port have the low performance and these signals are analog output. So, it is difficult that the users enjoy realistic game with benefit of high resolution digital TV. We propose the game device output with uncompressed digital signal, which has no delay of video/audio signal, also has strong immunity to external noise. Since it supports a high resolution video and high quality sound, users can playa realistic game. First, we implement the HDMI to the game device and we test reliability with the various resolutions video inputs and audio inputs. The proposed method can be applied multimedia devices requiring high performance output function as well as portable devices.
The purpose of this study is to analyze how video media such as movies and dramas, which aim for one-way and viewing-oriented content, remediates the attributes of games, and to study the influence and convergence of games and video media. There were two main types of game culture convergence patterns of video media. The first is the passive fusion of the content aspect of the game, and the second is the active fusion of the system aspect of the game. Such research is significant as a basic study that reveals that games affect various video media and proves that game media can function as a representative media leading popular culture.

The Purpose of this study is to investigate the video game bahaviors in middle and high school boys. The data were collected using questionnaires from 342 boys. The major results of this study were summarized as follows ; Most of the middle and high school boys attempted video game and have been done more than one year. The half of them spent one hour or more on video game once.
Generally, the existing Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems were designed for specific purposes and their capabilities handle only specific problems. Alternatively, Artificial General Intelligence can solve new problems as well as those that are already known. Recently, General Video Game Playing the game AI version of General Artificial Intelligence, has garnered a large amount of interest among Game Artificial Intelligence communities. Although video games are the sole concern, the design of a single AI that is capable of playing various video games is not an easy process. In this paper, we propose a GreedyUCB1 algorithm and rollout method that were formulated using the knowledge from a game analysis for the Monte-Carlo Tree Search game AI. An AI that used our method was ranked fourth at the GVG-AI (General Video Game-Artificial Intelligence) competition of the IEEE international conference of CIG (Computational Intelligence in Games) 2014.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to assess the difference in the effect of provision of feedback on knowledge of performance and knowledge of result in the training using somesthetic video game aimed at enhancement of balance of hemiparalysis patients due to stroke. METHODS: 20 stroke patients participated in the study. The participants were randomly divided into 2 groups, namely, the knowledge of performance feedback group (KP group, n=10) and the knowledge of result feedback group (KR group, n=10). Both groups received somesthetic video game training 5 times (30 minutes each) a week for total of 4 weeks. The KP group received feedback on the patterns of movement in execution of somesthetic video game. The KR group received feedback on the scores acquired following execution of somesthetic video game. Verification of the significance of the data was performed through paired t-test and independent t-test. RESULTS: Both groups displayed significant reduction in the movement of center of pressure (COP) and Timed up and Go (TUG), and significant increase in the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) following the training. Although the movement of COP was reduced for the KP group in comparison to the KR group, it was not statistically significant, and there was significant reduction in TUG and significant increase in BBS. CONCLUSION: The above results illustrate that provision of feedback on knowledge of performance is more effective than feedback on knowledge of result in somesthetic video game training for the purpose of enhancement of balance in stroke patients. Therefore, provision of feedback on knowledge of performance is necessary in somesthetic video game training for stroke patients.
Ever since Homeros in Greece, Mimesis was thought to be an art that imitates nature, especially the classicism of nature. Mimetic theories were used in the artworks in the era of the Renaissance, and the terminology 'mimesis' replaced the idea of originality in the 15th century. The purpose of this study is to understand the aesthetics of mimesis expressed in Online video game apparel design. For this purpose, I researched different theories of 'mimesis' and applied them to Online video game apparel designs. The research was conducted using various books on aesthetics and fashion, and demonstrative studies were processed by analyzing photos from Internet video game websites. In the history of aesthetics, the term mimesis is divided into three categories: external, internal and multiple mimesis. External mimesis represented the historical point of view in the design, which showed the beauty of the ancient times. Internal mimesis displayed the metaphorical symbols of religion, character, psychology, sexuality and fear. Multiple mimesis was the hybrid and the distortion of the different aspects of mimesis. Applying this research on mimesis and expressing them in Online video game design may be an excellent method for understanding human aesthetics in video game apparels.
In this paper, we suggest a game system that can support network modules for multi-platform based video games, and built a system that can convert from a single-user game to multi-user game. In this system, we bring in an initial delay buffering scheme on clients to handle any periods of latency occurring from the load fluctuation in a network, when a real-time game is played, and shows that stable play for a game is achieved as the result of the scheme. This paper also presents a retransmission algorithm based on the history of game commands to handle drawbacks of UDP mechanism. And, we evaluate the network delay and packet loss using the simulation tool NS2, and shows the case of 0.3 second buffer delay is the most suitable for recovery.
A new trend has been emerging in recent years, with video game live streaming becoming a meeting ground for gamers, as well as a marketing strategy for game developers. In line with this trend, the emergence of the "Let's Play" culture has significantly changed the manner in which people enjoyed video games. In order to academically explore this new experience, this study seeks to answer the following research questions: (1) Does engaging in video game streaming offer the same feeling as playing the game? (2) If so, what are the factors that affect the feeling of telepresence from viewers' perspective? and (3) How does the feeling of telepresence affect viewers' learning experience of the streamed game? We generated and empirically tested a comprehensive research model based on the telepresence and consumer learning theories. The research findings revealed that the authenticity and pleasantness of the streamer and the interaction of viewers positively affect telepresence, which in turn is positively associated with the gained knowledge and a positive attitude toward the streamed game. Based on the research findings, various practical implications are discussed for game developers as well as platform providers.
As violent video game is used based on active interaction and involvement of users, it is widely thought that it may have more effect on individual violence and aggressive action than existing violent videos. This study aimed to examine the effect of user experiences in the violent video game such as hostility, anger, arousal, enjoyment and identification on users' aggressive action. For this purpose, the first person FPS shooting game that consists of violent contents was employed to carry out playtest for 80 subjects with 40 male and 40 female university students. As a result, it was found that the user's arousal level, state anger, enjoyment and identification experience by the use of violent video game had an effect on aggressive action. Among factors that have aggressive action in the used of violent video game, besides emotion and arousal, the level of identification with a game character was found to be important effect factor. Hostility factor that was assumed to have effect on aggressive action was not significant, but enjoyment of game was proved to have effect on aggressive action of users.
