Background: Domestic violence (DV) is associated with serious consequences for victims, children, and families, and even national economies. An emerging literature demonstrates that DV also has a negative impact on workers and workplaces. Less is known about the extent to which people are aware of coworkers' experiences of DV. Methods: Using data from a pan-Canadian sample of 8,429 men and women, we examine: (1) awareness of coworker DV victimization and perpetration; (2) the warning signs of DV victimization and perpetration recognized by workers; (3) whether DV victims are more likely than nonvictims to recognize DV and its warning signs in the workplace; and (4) the impacts of DV that workers perceive on victims'/perpetrators' ability to work. Results: Nearly 40% of participants believed they had recognized a DV victim and/or perpetrator in the workplace and many reported recognizing more than one warning sign. DV victims were significantly more likely to report recognizing victims and perpetrators in the workplace, and recognized more DV warning signs. Among participants who believed they knew a coworker who had experienced DV, 49.5% thought the DV had affected their coworker's ability to work. For those who knew a coworker perpetrating DV, 37.9% thought their coworker's ability to work was affected by the abusive behavior. Conclusion: Our findings have implications for a coordinated workplace response to DV. Further research is urgently needed to examine how best to address DV in the workplace and improve outcomes for victims, perpetrators, and their coworkers.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to prepare basic data to build an Oriental medicine support system for sexual violence victims through a survey on perceptions of Korean medical doctors about sexual violence. Methods: From 18 September 2019 to 24 September 2019, the online survey was conducted by both Korean medical doctors and students of the Korean Medical College. Thereafter, a quantitative statistical analysis was conducted on data from a total of 1,011 respondents, including 749 doctors and 262 students. Results and Conclusions: Many of the doctors and the students who answered were not fully aware of public services and legal systems related to sexual violence. Most Korean doctors had very little experience in treating victims of sexual violence. Most respondents thought that the number of designated Oriental medicine institutions for sexual violence victims should increase, and related education and Oriental medicine manuals would be essential. Most respondents said that information about trauma treatment would be essential. In addition, the Korean medicine group showed overall good scores in the perception of sexual violence. However, there were statistically significant differences in perception between males and female, and among age groups. We hope that this study could be used as basic data for establishing an Oriental medicine support system for sexual violence victims.
Purpose: The "golden hour" concept in trauma is pervasive despite little evidence to support it. This study addressed the association between prehospital time and in-hospital mortality in seriously injured abdominal trauma victims. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted over a three-year period from 2006 to 2008. We analyzed trauma victims with abdominal injuries who underwent an emergency laparotomy in a local emergency center located in a city with a population of 2,500,000. According to the 'golden hour' oncept, we separated the trauma victims into two groups (Gourp 1: prehospital time ${\leq}$ 1 hour, Group 2: prehospital time > 1hour) and investigated several factors, such as time, process, and outcome. Results: During the period from January 2006 to December 2008 139 trauma victims underwent an emergency laparotomy, and 89 of them were enrolled in this study. Between the two groups, emergency department (ED) access, transportation, and injury mechanism showed statistically meaningful differences, but no statistically meaningful differences were observed in various measures of the outcome, such as length of hospital stay, length of Intensive Care Unit stay, and mortality. In a univariate logistic regression study, age (odds ratio [OR]: 1.101; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.026 to 1.182), Revised Trauma Score (RTS) (OR: 0.444; 95% CI 0.278 to 0.710), hemoglobin (OR: 0.749; 95% CI: 0.585 to 0.960), and creatinine (OR: 24.584; 95% CI: 2.019 to 299.364) were significant prognostic factors, but prehospital time was not. In a multivariate logistic regression study, age and RTS were significant associated with mortality. Conclusion: In this study, we found no association between prehospital time and mortality among abdominal trauma patient who underwent an emergency laparotomy. We suggest that in our current out-of-hospital and emergency care system, until arrival at the hospital time may be less crucial for trauma victims than once thought.

This research was executed to develop a consultation program for female victims of domestic violence in the past and appraise its effectiveness. For the research, we selected 30 persons for an experimental group and a control group respectively, and practiced frequency analysis, reliability analysis, homogeneity check and T-test of independent sample by using SPSS 20.0 for Windows. The result of analysis is as follows. First, it was probed that the consultation program had the effect to improve the self-esteem of female victims of domestic violence, and reduce depression levels and anxiety. Second, it appeared that consultation program improved the psychological and social adaptation of female victims of domestic violence positively and cast an affirmative effect on the satisfaction of communication of subdivision and conflict-coping method. Therefore, it app[eared that this program had a close relation with the attitude etc. to solve the issues of interpersonal relations and communication of female victims of domestic violence. That is, it was verified that the program had the effect in that they escaped from the sequela of abuse and adapted themselves to mental society.
Recently, much attention in electronic financial fraud has been dramatically increased. In particular, the electronic financial fraud has been transforming to social engineering. Despite the growing interest in electronic financial fraud, few guidelines exist how to effectively avoid the serious damage from electronic financial fraud. Moreover, it is rarely investigated cases of victims from financial fraud. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate why financial fraud crime victims occurs. To enhance mundane realism, we conducted Focus Group Interview(FGI) with actual victims from financial fraud crime. Drawing analysis of FGI with actual victims, we found that there are certain damage patterns. Further, we found that the reason why financial fraud crime victims occurs is optimistic biases of humans rooted in behavioral economics. Therefore, this study provides the valuable guidelines and directions to prevent electronic financial fraud based on risk and crisis management perspective. Ultimately, this study is able to help the establishment and implementation of a comprehensive electronic financial fraud prevention policy.
This study intends to conduct a thorough research and analysis on the designated temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in order to bridge the gap between the temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in country and city, and understand the current status of the designated temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in rural and urban areas. As a result, the designated temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in urban areas are bigger and have higher capacity, implying the necessity to designate facilities in rural areas that can accommodate larger number of people. As to the analysis of the representative temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in rural areas, different regions had different types of designated facilities and the number of facilities also showed big difference depending on regions. So it is believed that local governments should improve the process and system of designating temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims.
Purpose: Trauma surgery is not an official medical specialty in the Republic of Korea (South Korea). Thus, a trauma victim transported to an emergency room (ER) is resuscitated and surveyed by an intern, a resident, or an emergency physician (EP) at first. Currently an operative management is decreasing because of multiple factors. Nevertheless, trauma surgery is the key for some patients. Does the EP's treatment in the ER delay the surgeon's emergency operation? Methods: A retrospective study was performed for trauma victims who underwent trauma surgery from March 2004 to February 2005 in a local emergency center of Daegu-city. We reviewed the medical records and analyzed the trauma victim's age, sex, cause of injury, method of transport, time from the trauma to the operation, EP's treatment, surgical department, mortality, and injury severity score (ISS). Results: Of the 223 trauma victims included in this study, males were predominant (83.4%). The mean age was 37.98 years of age. The main Causes of trauma were trauma NOS (not otherwise specified) and motor vehicle accidents (MVA). The main methods of transport was privately owned automobile. The mean time from trauma to operation was 617.46 min. The mean ISS was 7.67. Trauma surgery with the EP's treatment group included 40 trauma victims with higher ISS, and the time from trauma to operation was shorter than it was for the 183 trauma victims not in that group. Conclusion: The EP's treatment of high-ISS multiple-injury trauma victims can shorten the time from trauma to trauma surgery and will help the surgical department treatment. In the trauma care system of the Republic of Korea, and increased role should be encouraged for emergency physician.
Purpose:In this study, we reviewed existing victim support programs implemented in Korea to aid in the development of psychosocial support programs for patients and guardians who have experienced patient safety incidents. Methods: We reviewed similar programs: a support program for suicide survivors operated by the Korea Psychological Autopsy Center (Korea Foundation for Suicide Prevention), a family harmony program for workers in industrial accidents operated by the National Center for Forest Therapy, and the support services for crime victims provided by the Korean Crime Victims Support Association. We reviewed the contents of each website and conducted interviews with key personnel from each institution. Results: The support program for families who have experienced suicide was developed based on the suicide prevention project at the Central Psychological Autopsy Center. The family harmony program for workers who suffered industrial accidents is operated by the National Center for Forest Therapy at the behest of the Korean Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service. The Korean Crime Victims Support Association was established by the Ministry of Justice in accordance with the Crime Victim Protection Act and provides support to victims of crime. Each program was designed and implemented considering the objectives and goals, defining their recruitment plans as well as the selection criteria for their participants, and creating quality content that adequately addressed the struggles of their participants. Conclusion: The summarization of the various types of victim support programs in this study can be helpful in the future development of psychosocial support programs for victims of patient safety incidents.
Purpose: Recently, crimes caused by stalking crimes have become a social issue. Following the "Stalking Response Manual", we would like to examine measures and problems to protect victims, and to examine the necessity of private expenses as a supplementary alternative. Method: The victim protection measures of stalking crimes and the police's 'stalking response manual' were identified, and problems and the necessity of private expenses were analyzed. Result: The number of people in charge of the police is 398 per person, and the police alone have limitations in protecting stalking victims. It is necessary to find ways to actively utilize the parts that cannot be solved only by the police while cooperating by entrusting them to private expenses. Conclusion: With the enactment of the Stalking Punishment Act in 2021, measures to protect victims were stipulated in the stalking response manual, but there are limitations in protecting victims due to various problems. Therefore, it is necessary to study ways to protect victims using private expenses.
This paper explores the work of mourning of 9/11 in the United States, focusing on the project of building the National September 11 Memorial managed by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation(LMDC) and the War on Terror declared by the George W. Bush administration in the wake of 9/11. This paper first looks at the project of building the Natioanl September 11 Memorial and considers what was at stake in achieving this project. It also examines the limitations of the project. This paper argues that, in spite of the efforts to mourn the victims in significant and meaningful ways, the work of mourning in the memorial project fails at least in two respects. First, the memorial project "began so soon" right after 9/11 that the victims' families were not given enough time to mourn their loved ones. Second, the project were permeated with American nationalism and patriotism, which made the 316 non-American victims of 9/11 invisible and forgotten. Then, it goes on to examine the War on Terror because the War on Terror epitomized the failure of mourning due to these causes. In his address to the nation delivered on the very day of 9/11, President George W. Bush stated that "America was targeted for the attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world" and that the terrorists failed to threaten America into chaos. He also stated that America is in "the war against terrorism." These statements were a futile reassertion of the illusion of American invulnerability and a prohibition of mourning in favor of violent military responses to 9/11. American nationalism also underlies Bush's official naming of September 11 as "Patriot Day." The victims were sacrificed because they were at the site when terrorists attacked, which implies that their death had nothing to do with American patriotism. Naming September 11 as Patriot Day was an act of imbuing the absurdity of the victims' death with a false meaning and an act of forgetting the non-American victims. The failure of the work of mourning of 9/11 consisted in the inability to recognize human vulnerability and interdependence and the inability to mourn not only American victims but also non-American victims killed in 9/11 and the War on Terror. A meaningful and significant mourning could be possible when we realizes that all human beings are exposed to one another and their lives are interdependent on one another. September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows well demonstrated this kind of mourning. When most Americans supported violent retaliations, Peaceful Tomorrows made pleas for nonviolent responses to 9/11. Turning their grief into action for peace, its members work "to create a safer and more peaceful world for everyone," not only for Americans. Their effort to mourn in meaningful and nonviolent ways delivers the message that a disaster like 9/11 should not happen anywhere.
