  • Energy induced by minor earthquake and micro vibration cannot be dissipated by traditional buckling-restrained braces (BRBs). To solve this problem, a new type of hybrid passive control device, named as VE-BRB, which is configured by a BRB with high-damping viscoelastic (VE) layers, is developed and studied. Theoretical analysis, performance tests, numerical simulation and case analysis are conducted to study the seismic behavior of VE-BRBs. The results indicate that the combination of hysteretic and damping devices lead to a multi-phased nature and good performance. VE-BRB's working state can be divided into three phases: before yielding of the steel core, VE layers provide sufficient damping ratio to mitigate minor vibrations; after yielding of the steel core, the steel's hysteretic deformations provide supplemental dissipative capacity for structures; after rupture of the steel core, VE layers are still able to work normally and provide multiple security assurance for structures. The simulation results agreed well with the experimental results, validating the finite element analysis method, constitutive models and the identified parameters. The comparison of the time history analysis on a 6-story frame with VE-BRBs and BRBs verified the advantages of VE-BRB for seismic protection of structures compared with traditional BRB. In general, VE-BRB had the potential to provide better control effect on structural displacement and shear in all stages than BRB as expected.

  • To reduce acoustic noise level of an AV projector, primary noise sources of AV projector were analyzed. Based on the analyzed result, methods to control each source are presented and tried. Structure-borne noise can be controlled by anti vibration design of mounting system, and air-borne noise by reducing flow resisitvity.

  • For the practical using the SRM by domestic application, we must of all have solution to the noise and the vibration. This paper presents the acoustic noise emitted from the SRM. The emitted noise it particularly strong when the frequency of deformation coincides with that of a natural mechanical resonance of the stator. To reduce the emit acoustical noise varying the switching frequency randomly. We will consist of SRM control system by using DSP, and confirm the effects of the noise reduction

  • The force control of a constrained flexible manipulators has been one of the major research topics. However, a little effort has been devoted for the relation between friction force and elastic deflection of end-effector for a constrained flexible manipulator. So, the aim of this paper is to clarify the friction mechanism of a constrained spatial multi-link flexible manipulator by changing the material and connected method of end-effector. In this study, a concise hybrid position/force control scheme is applied to the control of a flexible manipulator, and the experimental results for the constrained vertical motion and constrained horizontal motion is presented. Finally a comparison between these results are presented to show the reduction of vibration of link and friction force.

  • Today, Large and bigger underground construction are increased. In this study, Blating used electronic detonation (OBM Method) and non-electric detonation are carried out. Through comparison with two method, reduction of vibration and noise and efficiency of construction are investigated. As a result of this study, using electronic detonation is shown that it can control lower vibration and noise level, and better HCF, mucfile, advance rate and fragmentation.

  • Recently, the singing phenomenon was encountered during the sea trials of high speed catamaran and 46,000 TDW product carrier and remedied after various treatments, which were based on the reduction of vortex shedding strength and the avoidance of resonance, respectively. And, the numerical approach for structure-acoustical problem like singing phenomenon was established using MSC/NASTRAN and SYSNOISE. In this paper, the effectiveness of numerical approach was verified through the control of singing noise. And the results according to the modification were also discussed. Finally, the future works were described to enhance the numerical approach pattern for singing phenomenon.

  • This paper presents active noise control method to form the near-field quiet zone for passengers in an automobile. The actuator model including interior acoustic plant, speaker and amplifier is experimentally identified in forms of auto-regressive and moving average by means of least mean square algorithm, The digital controller is composed of the regulator and Kalman filter to be designed based on LQG (linear quadratic gaussian). If the actuator model is prefiltered with digital filter to be properly designed for concentrating control performance index on the frequency band of primary noise source, LQG design approach can be effectively applied for the design of headset controller. Experimental results demonstrate that near-field quiet zone showing about 10dB noise reduction at microphone position can be formed using the headset located at passenger seat.

  • The demand for the stable and comfortable cabin of a high speed passenger ship is increasing. The study on shipboard comfort has been mainly concentrated on the motion control of a whole hull body. In this study, however, a new control system operated by two parallel robots (3RPS, 3SPR) such as the active suspension system of motor vehicle is proposed. The goal of this control is keeping zero velocity of the upper robot (cabin) although the lower robot (ship) is moving by the waves. Jacobian matrix was used to design the controller, From the simulation results, the remarkable reduction of motion of the cabin (upper platform) was observed. The 3SPR parallel robot shows better performance compared to the 3RPS robot.

  • Recent advances in automotive noise control engineering have reduced major sound sources in the vehicle, customers perceive Buzz, Squeak and Rattle (BSR) as one of important indicators of vehicle quality and durability. As the long-term goal, we expect to establish the integrated design cycle for the reduction of BSR noise in the early stage of development, which consist of design, prediction, and evaluation procedures. This is possible only with great bulk of experimental data for BSR noise. In this paper, BSR noise is experimentally identified for vehicle doors, which have been traditionally considered as one of main sources of BSR noise. Based on this result, we proposed method for the prevention of BSR noise in the vehicle doors.
