Finite element (FE) model updating is a useful tool for global damage detection technique, which identifies the damage of the structure using measured vibration data. This paper presents the application of a finite element model updating method to detect the damage of a small-scale reinforced concrete building structure using measured acceleration data from shaking table tests. An iterative FE model updating strategy using the least-squares solution based on sensitivity of frequency response functions and natural frequencies was provided. In addition, a side constraint to mitigate numerical difficulties associated with ill-conditioning was described. The test structure was subjected to six El Centro 1942 ground motion histories with different Peak Ground Accelerations (PGA) ranging from 0.06 g to 0.5 g, and analytical models corresponding to each stage of the shaking were obtained using the model updating method. Flexural stiffness values of the structural members were chosen as the updating parameters. In model updating at each stage of shaking, the initial values of the parameter were set to those obtained from the previous stage. Severity of damage at each stage of shaking was determined from the change of the updated stiffness values. Results indicated that larger reductions in stiffness values occurred at the slab members than at the wall members, and this was consistent with the observed damage pattern of the test structure.

As a new type of vibration reduction, the ladder track system has been successfully used in engineering. In this paper, a numerical model of the train-track-viaduct system is established to study the dynamic responses of an elevated bridge with ladder track. The system is composed of a vehicle submodel, a track submodel and a bridge submodel, with the measured track irregularities as the system self-excitation. The whole time histories of a train running through an elevated bridge with $3{\times}27m$ continuous PC box girders are simulated. The dynamic responses of the bridge such as deflections, lateral and vertical accelerations, and the vehicle responses such as derailment factors, offload factors and car-body accelerations are calculated. The calculated results are partly validated through the comparison with the experimental data. Compared to the common slab track, adapting the ladder sleeper can effectively reduce the accelerations of the bridge girder, and also reduce the car-body accelerations and offload factors of the train vehicle.

To develop floor impact sound resilient materials of apartment house effectively, floor impact sound insulation performance test lab. was designed and constructed in T company. Introducing specification and basic performance of this lab. could be helpful in plan and design of another lab. Floor space size of this lab. is $4.2m{\times}5.5m$ and this size is similar with that of living room of usual apartment house's (about $100m^2$) and the height of lab. is 2.4m. Slab thickness is designed by 180mm. Frequency characteristics is similar to general apartment house. Reverberation time of sound receiving room displays 1.26sec in 125Hz by establishing sound-absorbing materials. For light weight impact sound insulation performance of concrete bare floor structure is estimated by $L_{i,AW}\;=\;73$ and for heavy weight is estimated by $L_{i,Fmax,AW}\;=\;50$. Sound pressure level distribution of sound receiving room is ranged very uniformly. With these results, floor impact sound resilient materials could be evaluated and the results could be trusted by comparison tests.

A method of calculating natural frequencies corresponding to the modes of vibration of beams and tower structures with irregular cross sections and arbitrary boundary conditions was developed. The result is compared with that of the beam theory. Finite difference method is used for this purpose. The influence of the $D_{22}$ stiffness on the natural frequency is rigorously investigated. In this paper, the relation between the applied loading sizes and the natural frequency of vibration of some structural elements is presented. The results of application of this method to steel bridge and reinforced concrete slab bridge by using specially orthotropic plate theory is presented.

In this study, the impact force levels of bang machine and impact ball were measured, then the heavy-weight impact sounds generated by the bang machine and impact ball were investigated. It was found that the heavy-weight impact sources generated through modal excitation, and the impact force of the impact ball was similar to that of real impact source. The heavy-weight impact sounds were also measured in the real apartments with different slab thickness and floor structures. The results showed that the floor impact sound levels in terms of $L_{iFmax,AW}$, generated by impact ball sounds were reduced by using the resilient isolators. The frequency characteristics of heavy-weight impact sounds at 125 and 250 Hz were consistent with the characteristics of impact force spectrum. However, the difference between the impact sounds and the impact forces were found at 63 and 500 Hz due to the resonance of the floor structure and flanking noise, respectively.
With the advantages of large span, light deadweight and convenient construction, the steel-concrete composite beam (SCCB) has been rapidly developed as a medium span bridge. Compared with common beams, the global stiffness of SCCB is discontinuous and in a staged distribution. In this paper, the analysis model for the simply-supported SCCB is established and the vibration equations are derived. The natural vibration characteristics of a simply-supported SCCB are analyzed, and are compared with the theoretical and experimental results. A curvature mode measurement method is proposed to identify the shear connector damage of SCCB, with the stiffness reduction factor to describe the variation of shear connection stiffness. By analysis on the $1^{st}$ to $3^{rd}$ vertical modes, the distribution of shear connectors between the steel girder and the concrete slab are well identified, and the damage locations and failure degrees are detected. The results show that the curvature modes can be used for identification of the damage location.

The aims of this study were to Investigate the floor impact noise isolation performance of floating floor with isolation materials and propose the improvement direction of floor impact noise measurement method and evaluation classes using impact ball. Reduction of light-weight impact sound pressure level can be achieved by the finishing materials, such as vinyl finishing material and wooden flooring with isolation materials. Floor impact noise Isolation material which satisfy the properties of the floor impact noise isolation materials cause resonance in the low frequency band and worsen heavy-weight impact sound pressure level. Heavy-weight impact sound level can be reduced by using noise reduction flooring, ceiling and increase of slab thickness. Strong impact force in low frequency bang below 63Hz of bang machine is not similar to human impact source and causes some problem in evaluating heavy-weight impact noise but heavy-weight impact noise measurement and evolution using impact ball which is very similar to human impact is more reliable than bang machine. Correction value on the background noise and sensitivity of residents should be considered on the floor impact noise evaluation classes.

It is reported that there is a limit in increasing heavy-weight impact noise isolation performance of the load bearing wall system apartments to meet the regulation of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT). To increase the heavy-weight impact noise isolation performance, improvement in structural systems such as increasing concrete slab thickness and application of rahmen structure were proposed. In this study floor impact sound levels from toil apartments with two rahmen structure multi-story residential buildings were measured before the construction of the buildings finished. Measurements were made at living room and two bedrooms at each apartment when the finishing processes were finished. The average value of light-weight impact sound level from ten apartments was 56dB (L'$\sub$n,Aw/). The heavy-weight impact sound level was 44dB (L'$\sub$i.Fmax.Aw/) and the impact sound level of the impact ball was 41dB(L'$\sub$i.Fmax.Aw/), As a result floor impact noises at the rahmen structure system were lower than the regulation level.

This paper analyzes the continuous Galerkin method for the space-time discretization of wave equation. The method of space-time finite elements enables the simple solution than the usual finite element analysis with discretization in space only. We present a discretization technique in which finite element approximations are used in time and space simultaneously for a relatively large time period called a time slab. The weighted residual process is used to formulate a finite element method for a space-time domain. Instability is caused by a too large time step in successive time steps. A stability problem is described and some investigations for chosen types of rectangular space-time finite elements are carried out. Some numerical examples prove the efficiency of the described method under determined limitations.

The reduction effect of floor impact noise depends on the various factors such as stiffness and thickness of the concrete slab, finishing If ceiling materials and the composition method. Among the rest it is well known that floating floor system is more effective. Standard floating floor(SFF) type-2 consisted of 50mm lightweight aerated concrete(LAC) and 20mm damping material has been widely used. But LAC construction problem on dry damping material occurred and the reduction effect of floor impact noise has bare minimum qualifications. Thus the aim of this study is to develop 40mm composite damping material(Soundzero Plus) for SFF type-5 which substitute LAC and damping material. 'Soundzero Plus' is satisfied with quality requirement for damping material for SFF. The heat transition rate, $0.45W/m^2{\cdot}K$ is more effective 55% about than the regulation. The test results of floor impact noise by using 'Soundzero Plus' are showed good improvement about 12dB (tested by tapping machine) and 4dB (tested by bang machine) between before and after.
