This paper presents a new stochastic controller applied on the vibration control system under irregular disturbances based on the mode selection scheme. Measured displacement and frequency characteristics are simultaneously used in designing a mode selecting controller. This technique is validated by applying to the suppression problem of a flexible beam with randomly vibrated circumstances. The presented method, called Mode Selecting Stochastic Controller, uses the frequency measurement of the flexible system based on a Fast-Fourier transformation algorithm. This controller is constructed by combining mode selection method with previous known Stochastic Controller in real time: Numerical simulations and several experiments are conducted to validate the proposed method. The performance of the proposed method is compared with a stochastic controller developed recently. This method was improved compared with previous one.

Compliance of joints must be considered when we analyze dynamics of a multi-body system. If the virtual model for CAE(computer aided engineering) analysis does not consider compliance, the result of CAE analysis can be very different from the actual experimental result. Especially in a biped walking robot, the robot may lose walking stability due to the compliance in joints of a walking robot. This paper proposed a method applying a compliance of joints in the biped walking robot to a virtual model. Also, through the 3-D displacement measurement using a laser tracker, it was demonstrated that the virtual model considering the joint compliance could effectively simulate the nonlinear motion of the real model.
The aerodynamic and aero-elastic model tests of the China''s highest cooling tower has been carried out in the TJ-3 Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel of Tongji University. By adopting a scanivalve system, the external wind pressure is firstly measured on $12{\times}36$ taps for a single tower, two and four grouped towers under the condition of both smooth flow and the boundary layer due to surrounding geographic and building topography. The measurements of internal wind pressure distribution of $6{\times}36$ taps are taken for a single tower under the various ventilation ratios ranging from 0% to 100% of stuffing layers located at the bottom of the tower. In the last stage, the wind tunnel tests with an aero-elastic model are carefully conducted to determine wind-induced displacements at six levels (each with eight points) with laser displacement sensors. According to the measurement results of wind pressure or vibration response, the extreme aerodynamic loading values of the single or grouped towers are accordingly analyzed based on probability correlation technique.

In this study, we measured the natural frequencies of aluminum honeycomb sandwich beams using digital image correlation technique. The vibration images were captured using two high speed digital cameras and the images were converted to displacements by the digital image correlation technique. Displacement data in time domain were tranformed to frequency domain data by fast Fourier transform software. To reduce noise invoked by random exitation, a spectrum averaging technique and Savitsky-Golay digital filter were adopted. A conventional vibration measurement using an accelerometer and a finite element analysis were performed to compare the results by high speed digital camera measurement method. In conclusion, new method using high speed digital cameras and digital image correlation technique can measure the vibration of beam structures and can be applied to bio-structures where sensors cannot be attached.

A new cutting force estimating approach and machining state monitoring examples are presented which uses a cylindrical displacement sensor built into the spindle. To identify the tool-spindle system dynamics with frequency up to 2 kHz, a home-built electro-magnetic exciter is used. The result is used to build an algorithm to extract the dynamic cutting force signal from the spindle error motion; because the built-in spindle sensor signal contains both spindle-tool dynamics and tool-workpiece interactions. This sensor is very sensitive and can measure broadband signal without affecting the system dynamics. The main characteristic is that it is designed so that the measurement is irrelevant to the geometric errors by covering the entire circumferential area between the target and sensor. It is also very simple to be installed. Usually the spindle front cover part is copied and replaced with a new one with this sensor added. It gives valuable information about the operating condition of the spindle at any time. It can be used to monitor cutting force and chatter vibration, to predict roughness and to compensate the form error by overriding spindle speed or feed rate. This approach is particularly useful in monitoring a high speed machining process.

A high resolution Laser Doppler Vibrometer(LDV) developed using electronic fringe counting method. The fringe pattern signal obtained via analog signal processing is divided into two. One was converted to a TTL signal with a ZCD(zero-crossing detector) and then counted to calculate the displacement due to the vibration. The other was directed to the A/D converter to get a high resolution of about $\lambda/320$ with the phase comparison method. The data obtained with the A/D converter was used in the displacement calculation and the result was displayed on a LCD pane. In this study, a Laser Doppler Vibrometer with measurement range of $0.32\mum~129\mum$ and displacement resolution of 2nm, about $\lambda/320$ , was developed. And this LDV can be used to measure the dynamic of microsize devices such as MEMS(Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) and to diagnose high capacity electric equipment such as circuit breakers and transformers, of which resonant frequencies are changed when they are damaged.
The classical Kalman filter (KF) provides a practical and efficient state estimation approach for structural identification and vibration control. However, the classical KF approach is applicable only when external inputs are assumed known. Over the years, some approaches based on Kalman filter with unknown inputs (KF-UI) have been presented. However, these approaches based solely on acceleration measurements are inherently unstable which leads poor tracking and so-called drifts in the estimated unknown inputs and structural displacement in the presence of measurement noises. Either on-line regularization schemes or post signal processing is required to treat the drifts in the identification results, which prohibits the real-time identification of joint structural state and unknown inputs. In this paper, it is aimed to extend the classical KF approach to circumvent the above limitation for real time joint estimation of structural states and the unknown inputs. Based on the scheme of the classical KF, analytical recursive solutions of an improved Kalman filter with unknown excitations (KF-UI) are derived and presented. Moreover, data fusion of partially measured displacement and acceleration responses is used to prevent in real time the so-called drifts in the estimated structural state vector and unknown external inputs. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed approach are demonstrated by some numerical examples.

Researches regarding measurement and control of the dynamic behavior of liquid such as sloshing have been actively on undertaken in various engineering fields. Liquid vibration is being measured in the study of tuned liquid dampers(TLDs), which attenuates wind motion of buildings even in building structures. To overcome the limitations of existing wave height measurement sensors, a method of measuring liquid vibration in a TLD using a laser Doppler vibrometer(LDV) and galvanometer scanner is proposed in this paper: the principle of measuring speed and displacement is discussed; a system of multi-point measurement with a single point of LDV according to the operating principles of the galvanometer scanner is established. 4-point liquid vibration on the TLD is measured, and the time domain data of each point is compared with the conventional video sensing data. It was confirmed that the waveform is transformed into the traveling wave and the standing wave. In addition, the data with measurement delay are cross-correlated to perform singular value decomposition. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared using theoretical and video sensing results.

Leakages at plant structures of power and petrochemistry plants have led to casualties and economic losses. These leakages are caused by fatigue failure of pipelines and their wall thickness. Vibration measurement methods for plant pipelines mainly use acceleration and laser sensors. These sensors are difficult to install and operate and thus lead to an increase in operational cost especially for wide area surveillance. Recently, measurements of leak and vibration displacements using cameras have attracted the interest of many researchers. This method has advantages such as simple installation, long distance monitoring, and wide area surveillance. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a system that can measure the leakage and vibrational displacement by using a camera. Furthermore, the developed system was verified with experimental data.

Dynamic characteristics such as frequency and damping ratio in the ambient state of building has been progressed in domestic and foreign. However, there has not been any deep research of dynamic characteristics of full-scale structure using vibration measurement of the building damaged up to failure. Dynamic characteristics of three-story reinforced concrete building was evaluated before and after it was damaged by using a actuator. Dynamic characteristics is reviewed and compared with previous study. Ambient vibration and human excitation test were applied. After 120mm horizontal displacement by actuator, frequency of long and short direction is reduced to 34.3%, 33.7% and damping ratio is reduced to 36.5%, 19.5% respectively.
