This paper describes the relationship between the bending strength properties of sloped finger-jointed woods and the acoustic emissions (AEs) generated during the test. Pinus densiflora pieces were cut in sloped-finger types and glued with four kinds of adhesives (polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl-aeryl, oilic urethane and resorcinol-phenol resin). The results were as follows: The lower the bending strength(load) was, the earlier the generation time of AE event count got and the higher the increasing rate of AE event count became in the sloped finger-jointed specimens bonded with polyvinyl acetate and oilic urethane resin adhesives. Therefore, the slope from load-AE cumulative event count curve was very steep. The AE event count for resorcinol-phenol resin adhesive obtained even from low load level was abundant. The AE event count continuously increased as load increased and the event count was much more than one in the other conditions. The slope from load-AE cumulative event count curve was very gentle compared with other conditions. The patterns of AE event count and count were very similar. The relationship between the MOR and the AE parameter from load and AE cumulative event count in the early stage of the sloped finger-jointed specimens bonded with polyvinyl acetate, oilic urethane and resorcinol-phenol resin adhesives was much greater than that between the MOE and the MOR. Therefore, the AE signals obtained during bending test are useful for estimating the strength of sloped finger-jointed specimens.
VES-LMC (very-early strength latex-modified concrete) has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck overlay or rehabilitation, because the overlaid or repaired could be opened to the traffic after 3 hours of curing. Although the field performance of VES-LMC generally indicates that it has an excellent bonding to the substrate and shows a long term performance, little quantitative data or research results have been presented in the literature on structural studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural behavior, interfacial performance, crack propagation, and strengthen effect of RC beam overlaid or repaired by VES-LMC through the 4-point flexural loading test. Two different types of RC beam were fabricated for repair and rehabilitation types. The test result showed that the strengthen effect, in term of flexural stiffness, increases as the depth of repair or overlay increases. More than 40% of stiffness was improved when the depth of repair was up to steel position. However, there was a little difference between 80 mm and 120 mm repaired beam. This means the repair depth must be considered. The interfacial behavior data showed that the repaired or overlaid beams had a little relative displacement. This means that two materials behave comparatively acting together. However, there were two specimens which had large displacement at the interface, because of poor bond strength. This suggested that interface treatment is one of the most important jobs in composite beams.

This paper is experimental investigation for failure characteristics and performance of a RC beams strengthened with GFSP which were developed for improvement of the early debonding problems in the externally bonded FRP systems. To represent damages and load conditions of the existing beam, pre-cracks and repeating loads are adopted for experimental parameters. In this experiment, it is confirmed that strengthening with GFSP is a very effective strengthening method for an increase in strength, a decrease in deflection, a control of the crack. But it shown that the design of the beams to be strengthened with GFSP should be consider a brittle behavior of the grass fiber on the flexural capacity.
High performance concrete (HPC) has been extensively used in thin overlay for repair purpose due to its excellent strength and durability. This paper presents an experiment, where the sensor-instrumented HPC overlays have been followed by dynamic strain and moisture content monitoring for 1 year, under normal traffic. The vibrating wire and soil moisture sensors were embedded in overlay before construction. Four given HPC mixes (2 original mixes and their shrinkage-modified mixes) were used for overlays to contrast the strain and moisture results. A calibration method to accurately measure the moisture content for a given concrete mixture using soil moisture sensor was established. The monitoring results indicated that the modified mixes performed much better than the original mixes in shrinkage cracking control. Weather condition and concrete maturity at early age greatly affected the strain in concrete. The strain in HPC overlay was primarily in longitudinal direction, leading to transverse cracks. Additionally, the most moisture loss in concrete occurred at early age. Its rate was very dependent on weather. After one year, cracking survey was carried out by vision to verify the strain direction and no cracks observed in shrinkage modified mixes.

Porous concrete has been used recently for the purpose of decreasing the load on the earth environment. It consists solely of cement, water and coarse aggregate of uni form size. Its fundamental properties are considerably affected by the physical properties of aggregate because the aggregate is the main material for the most part in its mix proportion. Because of this reason, this study carried out an investigation of the influence of the size and type of aggregate on the fundamental properties of porous concrete. It is shown that the fundamental properties of porous concrete was seldom affected by the size of aggregate except for the case of using $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate but varied significantly by the type of aggregate. In particular, the compressive strength of porous concrete using $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate was much higher than that using other aggregate, and its void ratio and coefficient of permeability was lower. Moreover, the capacity to maintain the permeability of porous concrete was found to vary by the size and type of aggregate. Of particular notice was that it decreased greatly when $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate was used. Unlike ordinary concrete, porous concrete exhibited very high dynamic modulus of elasticity at early age and continued to increase but slowly afterwards.
Solid freeform fabrication (SFF) technology plays a major role in industry and represents a reasonable percentage of industrial rapid prototyping/tooling/manufacturing (RP/RT/RM) development applications. However, SFF technology still has long way to progress to achieve satisfactory process speed, surface finish and overall quality improvement of its application. Today, three dimensional printing (3DP) technique that is one of SFF technology is receiving many interests, and is applied by various fields. It can fabricate three dimensional objects of solid freeform with high speed and low cost using ink jet printing technology. However, need long curing time after manufacture completion. And it must do post-processing process necessarily to heighten strength of objects because strength of fabricated objects is very weak. Therefore, in this study, we proposed an improved 3DP process that can solve problems of conventional 3DP process. The general 3DP process is method to spout binder simply through printer head on powder, but proposed process is method to cure jetted UV resin by UV lamp after jet UV resin using printhead on powder. The hardening of resin is achieved strongly at early time by UV lamp in proposed method. So, the proposed process can fabricate three dimensional objects with high speed without any post-processing.
This study deals with the characteristic of refrigerant for heat-treatment deformation control of SM45C steel. The control of heat-treatment deformation must need the progress of production parts for a landing gear. Most of the deformation is occurred on unequal cooling. The unequal cooling is occurred by a property of quenching refrigeration. When a heated metal is deposited in the refrigeration, the cooling speed is so slow in early period of cooling because of occurring a steam-curtain. After more cooling, the steam-curtain is destroyed. In this progress, the cooling speed is very fast. The object of this study is to control the deformation of heat-treatment for landing gear by improving the conditions of quenching. The cooling curves and cooling rates of water, oil and polymer solution are obtained and illustrated. From the characteristics of the quenching refrigerant, the effects of heat-treatments on thermal deformation and fatigue strength are also investigated.
In case of constructing concrete structure under water, generally concrete mixed with antiwashout admixture, high range water reducer, or AE-water reducing agent etc has been manufactured to ensure the quality of antiwashout underwater concrete because of being difficulty in ascertaining construction situation by the naked eye. The properties of high quality antiwashout underwater concrete that were aimed at affluent fluidity, workability and the compressive strength of 450 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 28 ages using two types of blended cements are following as;(1) Setting time of antiwashout underwater concretes using blended cements was more greatly delayed than that of control concrete, however, was satisfied with criteria value of "Quality standard specification of antiwashout admixture for concrete".(2) As a test results of slump flow, efflux time and box elevation of head, it was found that workability of high quality antiwashout underwater concrete was improved. (3) Heat evolution amount of OPC was 1.5 times as high as that of two types of bended cements in 72 hours. (4) Suspended solids of antiwashout underwater concrete using blended cements was more than that of control concrete, also compressive strength of high quality antiwashout underwater concrete was very low in early age, but was better than that of control concrete as to increasing ages.
In this paper, rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out to investigate the growth behabiors of surface fatigue crack initiated from a small artificial surface defect, that might exist in real structures, on 2024-T3 and 6:4 brass. The test results are analysed in the viewpoints of both strength of materials and fracture mechanics, it can be concluded as follows. The effect of a small artificial surface defect upon the fatigue strength is very large. The sensitivity of 2024-T3 on the defect is higher than that of 6:4 brass. The growth behavior of the surface fatigue crack of 2024-T3 is different from that of 6:4 brass. The growth rate of the surface fatigue crack of 2024-T3 is considerably rapid in the early stage of the fatigue life and apt to decrease in the later stage. It was impossible to establish a unifying approach in the analysis of crack growth begabior of 2024-T3 and 6:4 brass using the maximum stress intensity factor because of their dependence on stress level. But if the elastic strain and cyclic total strain intensity factor range were applied to obtain the growth rate of surface fatigue cracks of the materials, the data were found to be nearly coincided.

In this study, thermal stability of the mechanical properties of Ni-P-B and Ni-P-Fe layers electroplated on Alloy 600 material was evaluated by measuring their microhardness, tensile strength, and elongation after heat treatment at $325^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$. According to the results, there was no noticeable change in microhardness of the two electrodeposits before and after heat treatment at the temperatures for 30 days. In the case of a Ni-P-B electrodeposit, ultimate tensile strength (UTS) slightly increases with heat treatment time, while its elongation decreases, showing good thermal stability in the mechanical properties at high temperature. On the other hand, UTS and elongation of Ni-P-Fe decrease with heat treatment time, which is very unusual observation. This result was attributed to the bad microstructure of Ni-P-Fe having many defects in the deposit formed early stage of an electroplating process and their redistribution to link to become large ones during heat treatment.
