  • Tibet has a long history and many traditions that feature colorful costumes. This study analyzes the similarities and differences in the use of multicolored stripes in the Korean Saekdong (색동: stripes of many colors) and Tibetan folk costumes. The analyses were done within the framework of Tibet's cultural and religious background and the characteristics of the region's traditional costumes. For this study, literature and photographs from books and the Internet that record the history of Tibet's traditional costumes were analyzed. The results show that the use of various colorful stripes was common in the Bangjeon (帮典) apron, one of the greatest costumes in Tibetan history. A Bangjeon is made of wool of multiple colors and has horizontal lines as compared with the silk Saekdong's vertical lines. In addition, they have a multicolored striped band on the sleeves which reminds one of the traditional Korean jacket with its Saekdong sleeves. However, these multicolored stripes appear in more parts of the Saekdong (such as the hemline and front collar) when compared with contemporary Korean costumes. Moreover, the multicolored bands are noticeable in several ornaments from the time, which suggests that Tibetans and Koreans were very fond of using multicolored stripes. Costumes from the Goguryeo (高句麗) dynasty indicate that Tibetans, like the Mongols and Manchus, were very similar to Koreans as they had multicolored garments and Paji pants in common.

  • The purpose of this study is to document an unidentified velvet fabric which is located in the Museum. The investigation was conducted by analyzing color, weaving technique. pattern of the study object. To identify the origin of the object, many references about color trends, construction methods and patterns were accessed. Two comparative objects which were dating from 1600 to 1699 in the Museum of F.I.T. were selected since they are similar to the study object. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; (1) The type of this study object is 'cut and voided velvet'. It is obtained establishing the motif as areas of cut pile so as to form a pattern, while leaving other areas of the grounded weave without pile. Two flowers and two tulips with S curved stems are composed as one unit in the vertical direction. (2) The colors used in this study object. which are ivory, smoke blue, medium orange, and yellow. are part of a new trend color in the $17^{th}$ century. (3) The vertical undulating stripe patterns are also of significance in this fabric. They seemed to be contemporary with the serpentine line which was common since the $15^{th}$ century and the vertical stripes pattern which appeared from the $16^{th}$ century. (4) The stylized tulip patterns of this study object began to appear in the early $17^{th}$ century. The stems and leaves of this patterns are less sinuous than the floral motifs of the later $17^{th}$ century. Therefore, the study object is dated to early in $17^{th}$ century because of the color combination. stripes. stylized tulips, leaves. and stems are showing the characteristics of this period.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the sensibility images when the direction and width of stripes change on semi-tight skirts. The researcher made 12 stimuli consisting of images of skirts with a combination of six stripe directions and two stripe widths. The images were assessed by 126 subjects who were students majoring in apparel. Three sensibility image factors were found: personality, attractiveness, and activity. Images of skirts with different stripe directions were perceived as having significant differences among these factors. Stripe widths of 1.5cm and 3cm in upward diagonal, vertical side line, and downward diagonal directions influenced the personality factor. Diagonal stripes with a width of 1.5cm positively influenced attractiveness and activity. Stripes in a vertical direction increased attractiveness when the stripe width was 1.5cm rather than 3cm. Although the interaction of stripe direction and width significantly influenced perceptions of attractiveness and activity in images of semi-tight skirts, they did not significantly influence personality. In accordance with the analysis, stripe direction was significantly different for all factors. This analysis indicated that each factor has its own independent influence. Stripe width had major independent effects, showing significance in attractiveness and activity. However, personality did not indicate any significant difference. The results of this study will help women select suitable clothing according to their individual preferences and body shapes by influencing how images are depicted because women will be able to use the images to estimate their body images when the skirts are put on.

  • Vertical Colour Selection (VCS) is an option for slim CRTs with increased sharpness and brightness. The direction of self-convergence of the DY is changed to vertical in order to obtain better spot uniformity, but the line scan direction remains horizontal. Hence, no video conversion is needed, contrary to transposed scan. In this paper we address two issues: First, there is a high risk of moire, since the scan lines and the phosphor stripes are parallel. We propose a feedback mechanism guiding the electron beams towards the middle of the mask slots. As positive side effects, the brightness is improved and the shadow mask can be made of a cheap type of steel. Secondly, VCS deflection coils have to satisfy different requirements than coils in ordinary CRTs. We discuss the design rules for self-convergent VCS coils and present simulation results.

  • Images acquired by Large Aperture Static Imaging Spectrometer (LASIS) exhibit obvious interference stripes, which are vertical and stationary due to the special imaging principle of interference hyperspectral image (IHI) data. As the special characteristics above will seriously affect the intrinsic structure and sparsity of IHI, decomposition of IHI has drawn considerable attentions of many scientists and lots of efforts have been made. Although some decomposition methods for interference hyperspectral data have been proposed to solve the above problem of interference stripes, too many times of iteration are necessary to get an optimal solution, which will severely affect the efficiency of application. A novel algorithm for decomposition of interference hyperspectral images based on split Bregman iteration is proposed in this paper, compared with other decomposition methods, numerical experiments have proved that the proposed method will be much more efficient and can reduce the times of iteration significantly.

  • A single specimen of Chaetodon vagabundus Linnaeus, 1758 belonging to the family Chaetodontidae was collected on September 8, 2013 in Yerae-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island, Korea. The morphological characteristics of C. vagabundus are similar to C. auriga and C. auripes in having dark vertical stripes cross the eye, but differs from C. auriga, which has high dorsal fin extended between spine and soft rays without concavity and has blotch of circle in dorsal fin, and from C. auripes which has yellow body, big of eye proportion and a black stripe along the caudal peduncle during the immature stage. C. vagabundus has eye-like black spots on dorsal fin and black vertical stripe extended from the anterior dorsal soft ray to the middle of the anal fin along the caudal peduncle. Molecular analysis results showed that our specimen perfectly matched C. vagabundus in the mitochondrial DNA COI sequences. Therefore, we use the Korean name, "Hwang-jul-na-bi-go-gi" for C. vagabundus proposed by Kim et al. (2020).
