  • The function of a vehicle holding device (VHD) is to securely hold a launch vehicle on the launch pad and release the launch vehicle at maximum thrust after engine ignition to allow lift-off of the launch vehicle. During the release of the launch vehicle, to prevent the Ka doing a doing a doing mode, which is the vertical oscillation of the entire liquid propellant, the release of the launch vehicle should be gradual. In this study, for the gradual release of a launch vehicle, a hydraulic system comprising an accumulator and pyro valve to operate a hydraulic cylinder and control the speed of the cylinder with an orifice is introduced. Through a test, the influence of design variables on the cylinder speed is analyzed. Based on this, the design values of the hydraulic cylinder are determined. Through this study, the engineering basis for developing a VHD releasing a launch vehicle at maximum thrust is provided.

  • Recently, the number of super high-rise building projects have been increased after recovering from international financial crisis. In super high-rise building project, vertical lifting is critical to overall project productivity, due to its limited lifting equipments. Also for projects which buildings' height are higher than 400m, transfer operation in lifting is inevitable because of lifts' maximum lifting height. In transfer operation, setting a transfer floor is essential for saving lifting time of resources. In this research, using discrete event simulation modeling with AnyLogic 7.0 software and metaheuristic optimization with OptQuest software, the method of optimizing a transfer floor for workers during the morning peak time is proposed. Comparing to the result of the case which transfer floor is designated to the middle floor, setting optimized transfer floor significantly decrease the total lifting time of workers. By using proposed simulation and optimization tool, saving budget and time through increasing available working hour is expected.

  • Anchovy scoop nets, a kind of lift net have been used in the coastal area of Cheju and South sea of Korea. An incandescent lamp(AC 100V, 1kW) is being used as a fishing lamp for gathering anchovy. Fishing lamp was installed at 1m ahead of the prow and 1.5m higher than the water surface. The fishing lamp let fish school rise to the water surface and attract to bag net. Accordingly, a successful anchovy catching depends on controling of fishing lamp. On the study, the distribution of spectral irradiance illumination of incandescent lamp(1kw) and the irradiance efficiency of reflection plate were analyzed and discussed to investigate the ability of fishing lamp which can attract anchovy school effectively. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Around 180% of irradiance efficiency of incandescent lamp was increased by using the reflection plate. The light of lamp was radiated into water with circular shape. 2. The irradiance illumination of incandescent lamp in air was a maximum in wave length of 994nm but it was 690nm at 0.5m and 1.0m of water depth. 3. The relationship between water depth(x) and water illumination(y) of vertical light is represented as follows : y=146.03e supper(-0.37x) 4. The light of incandescent lamp(1kW) pass through much better into vertical direction than horizontal but it was estimated that the light was not able to reach depth of 20m.

  • We investigated the In-based ohmic contacts on Nitrogen-face (N-face) n-type GaN, as well as Ga-face n-type GaN, for InGaN-based vertical Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). For this purpose, we fabricated Circular Transfer Length Method (CTLM) patterns on the N-face n-GaN that were prepared by using a laser-lift off method, as well as on the Ga-face n-GaN that were prepared by using a dry etching method. Then, In/transparent conducting oxide (TCO) and In/TiW schemes were deposited on the CTLM in order for low resistance ohmic contacts to form. The In/TCO scheme on the Ga-face n-GaN showed high specific contact resistance, while the minimum specific contact resistance was only 3${\times}$10$^{-2}$ $\Omega$-cm$^{2}$ after annealing at 300${^{\circ}C}$, which can be attributed to the high sheet resistance of the TCO layer. In contrast, the In/TiW scheme on the Ga-face n-GaN produced low specific contact resistance of 2.1${\times}$10$^{5}$ $\Omega$-cm$^{2}$ after annealing at 500${^{\circ}C}$ for 1 min. In addition, the In/TiW scheme on the N-face n-GaN also resulted in a low specific contact resistance of 2.2${\times}$10$^{-4}$ $\Omega$-cm$^{2}$ after annealing at 300${^{\circ}C}$. These results suggest that both the Ga-face n-GaN and N-face n-GaN.

  • The wheelchair mechanism for a car that is proposed in this study primarily consists of a transfer mechanism and storage mechanism. The wheelchair transfer mechanism consists of a manipulator installed in the roof of a car, and performs the function of transferring the wheelchair from the driver's seat to the trunk. The wheelchair storage mechanism consists of a lifting hoist installed in the trunk of car, and performs the function of storing the transferred wheelchair in the trunk and safely fastening it in place. This study analyzed and reviewed various manipulators, including a vertical type, Scara type, and telescopic type, with the goal of selecting the best type of manipulator for the wheelchair transfer mechanism. The telescopic type was selected and applied because of its good load support and storage capabilities. In addition, with regard to the wheelchair storage mechanism, a slide hoist type that used a slide rail and lift wire and a rotating link hoist type that used a rotating mechanism consisting of a worm gear and link were analyzed and reviewed. The slide hoist type was selected and applied because it had an advantage in relation to trunk space utilization. This study proposed a wheelchair transfer mechanism for a car to support a conventional wheelchair user's movements, and in order to conform to the structure of a domestic welfare car for the disabled.

  • This purpose of this paper was to review the development trend of the VTOL MAVs with a ducted propellant that can fly like the VTOL at intermediate and high speeds, hovering, landing, and lifting off vertically over urban areas, warships, bridges, and mountainous terrains. The MAV differs in flight characteristics from helicopters and fixed wings in many respects. In addition to enhancing thrust, the duct protects personnel from accidental contact with the spinning rotor. The purpose of the U.S. Army FCS and DARPA's OAV program is spurring development of a the VTOL ducted MAV. Today's MAVs are equipped with video/infrared cameras to hover-and-stare at enemies hidden behind forests and hills for approximately one hour surveillance and reconnaissance. Class-I is a VTOL ducted MAV developed in size and weight that individual soldiers can store in their backpacks. Class-II is the development of an organic VTOL ducted fan MAV with twice the operating time and a wider range of flight than Class-I. MAVs will need to develop to perch-and-stare technology for lengthy operation on the current hover-and-stare. The near future OAV's concept is to expand its mission capability and efficiency with a joint operation that automatically lifts-off, lands, refuels, and recharges on the vehicle's landing pad while the manned-unmanned ground vehicle is in operation. A ducted MAV needs the development of highly accurate relative position technology using low cost and small GPS for automatic lift-off and landing on the landing pad. There is also a need to develop a common command and control architecture that enables the cooperative operation of organisms between a VTOL ducted MAV and a manned-unmanned ground vehicle.

  • Three types of high-rise RC building structures having irregularity in the lower two stories were selected as prototypes and were performed nonlinear static analysis by using OpenSees to verify the analysis technique and to investigate the seismic capacity of those buildings. The first one has a symmetrical moment resisting frame (Model 1), the second has an infilled shear wall in the central frame (Model 2), and the third has an infilled shear wall only in one of exterior frames (Model 3). Fiber model, which consists of concrete and reinforcing bar represented from stress-strain relationship, is adapted used for simulate the nonlinearity of members, and MVLEM(Multi vertical linear element model) is used for simulate the behavior of wall. The analytical results are simulate the behavior of piloti stories well, for example, the stiffness and yield farce of piloti stories, the up-lift of wall and the variation of lateral stiffness of column due to the variation of axial forces. Overstrength of Model 2 and Model 3 are about 2 times larger than that of Model 1. The reason of the high oversttrength and ductility of Model 2 and Model 3 is that the conservative design of Model 2 and Model 3, whose beam and column sections are the same as those of Model 1. The ductilities of Model 1 and Model 3 are slightly larger than that of Model 1 and Model 3. Model 1 and Model 3 reached mechanism condition, whereas Model 2 failed to the shear failure of shear wall and the large axial forces in columns due to large overturning moment.

  • The foundation of the multi-span greenhouse structures is designed with small shallow concrete foundation considering mainly the vertical load. However, recently, due to an abnormal climate such as strong wind, horizontal load and up-lift load over design strength are applied to the foundation, causing safety problems of the greenhouse foundation. In order to reasonably evaluate the safety of greenhouse foundations, rotational and pullout stiffness expressed by the ground-foundation interaction should be evaluated, which also affects the safety of the upper structural members. In this study, three representative basic foundation types were selected by classifying greenhouse standards in Korea according to the shape, and the horizontal loading tests and theoretical calculation were performed for each foundation type. As a result of the comparison and analysis of the test and calculation, it was found that rotational resistance of the foundation is different according to the ratio of the contact area between the foundation and ground when the conditions of the foundation - ground contact surface and the mechanical properties of the ground are the same.

  • This study develops a technique training program to enhance the completion of Kolman, the high air flight technique, and applies it to two national athletes of the horizontal bar, one of the gymnastic events, for eight weeks. After that, their improvement was measured through 3D motion analysis to help them elevate their performance. The training program includes swing, hand release, twist, and bar hold, and its implementation produced the results stated below. They were made to practice the motion in the following way. After the hand-standing of giant swing which initiates the motion, they lift their body upward a little bit more. Next, they take their body down almost like a vertical descent and make a deep tap swing. Instead of doing the tap swing which widens the flection of hip and shoulder joints, while body revolution is more emphasized in particular, they release the bar as raising the centroid of their body sufficiently. During the flight, they try to narrow every joint in their body. As a result, the bar's elasticity becomes greatly increased, and since the backing rate of their body gets higher, the centripetal force of the swing is improved that they can release the bar in the higher position. In addition, because they can erect their body faster during the flight, they can perform comfortable twist and revolution in the air. They can also adjust the direction of the flight easily without too much concern for the proper timing of hand release as they rise. Thereby, they can not only maintain adequate distance from the bar for the bar hold but also ensure enough distance for body revolution and twist.

  • The Pyokkolche Reservoir was constructed as a major public project of the ancient agricultural society, 1600 years ago. From a hydraulic point of view, it is considered to have been carried out with a distinguished technology. It should be in particular noticed that for a consecutive banking the main stream was diverted and drained to the Yonpo stream and the dam with same sea levels on its top along the whole length was built in a nearly straight line in spite of the different sea levels between both ends on the bottom. These suggest that the carrying out artifice and surveying technigue of those days were considerably excellent. However, the insufficient plan and design at the time of the construction, the temporary management and the repeated repair works in the later ages caused the Pyokkolche to lose its function. The Changsaenggeo and Kyungjanggeo gate sites being the facilities for sluices composed of a simple span and a vertical lift hand-operated sing a pully. The advantage of the geographical characteristics at both ends of the main dam was scientifically taken to these sites which also functioned as a spillway against a flood. The gate site of Suyogeo must have been located in an entrance to Suwolri, the northern end of the Pyokkolche and Yutonggeo is presumed to have been located on the right of Sangsori, the southern end of the Pyokklche. Keywords : Pyokkolche Reservoir, construction technology, gate site location.
