It is a concern that eco-driving vehicles, because their driving behavior differs from other vehicles due to e.g. e-start, may inhibit smooth traffic flow. Therefore, it is necessary to study the cooperative eco-driving done by a vehicle group, putting "vehicle-to-vehicle communication" and "road-to-vehicle communication" into perspective. Based on these factors, this study aimed to: 1) Analyze fuel consumption rates and driving behaviors of more than one vehicle following an Eco-Driving vehicle. 2) Examine the effect of information on the fuel consumption rate of the preceding vehicles on the following vehicles. As a result, the following findings were obtained: 1) By providing information to multiple following vehicles, the fuel consumption rate of the second vehicle was not lowered, while that of the third one was. 2) It is possible that, when information on fuel consumption of a preceding vehicle is provided to the following one, an inter-vehicular distance is shortened during deceleration to contribute to smooth traffic flow. From the above results, it is suggested that, when targeting a vehicle group, sharing the information on preceding vehicles is effective.

Current IEEE 802.11p which is suggested for vehicle to vehicle communication supports one hop communication. Thus, it has a limitation to carry out efficient data dissemination. In this thesis, we suggest LTE-D2D based vehicle network to provide efficient data dissemination in the vehicle environment. In this network architecture, we use name based message with IP packet options and we put the intermediate vehicle node called 'super vehicle node' and each normal vehicle node in the cell requests data to the super vehicle node. The super vehicle node responses data to the normal vehicle node. Performance analysis is based mathematical modeling. We compare LTE cellular network to LTE-D2D based vehicle network about throughput according to packet delivery time.
In the V2X communications, each vehicle periodically broadcasts a message, called a beacon, so that its neighbor vehicles can accurately predict the near-future positions of the sending vehicle. In particular, the mobility-adaptive beacon broadcast (MAB2) scheme keeps the tracking error of a sending vehicle below a fixed threshold within a few consecutive beacon losses. In this paper, we present a random-early beacon broadcast (REB2) scheme that addresses the beacon aging problem of the MAB2 scheme. The simulation results show that, for a neighbor vehicle within 100 m distance, the tracking failure probability of REB2 scheme can be reduced to less than 1/10 of that of MAB2 scheme.
The multicarrier direct sequence code-division (MC-DS/CDMA) is a well-known multiple access and data transmission scheme that is applicable for various mobile and wireless communications. Particularly for modern, smart vehicles equipped with multiple sensors, MC-DS/CDMA is one of the possible means for giving the sensors to get connected one another for sending and receiving messages and control information. For intra-vehicalur communicaiton and networking applications, we have proposed a novel MC-DS/CDMA multiple access and data transmission scheme incorporating a new idea of inserting sub-symbol based cyclic prefixes for compromising inter-symbol interference. In the performance investigation of our MC-DS/CDMA, we have looked into system performances related to bandwidth utiltzation, coding gain, and multiple number of sensors. Since the channel delay is comparatively shorter inside of vehicle than any other general mobile channels, the proposed scheme can be a successful candidate for networking wireless sensors simultaneously operting in an intelligent vehicle.

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is one of the future communication technologies in which it offers safe-driving information and Internet access for both drivers and passengers by communicating among cars on the road. In case of applying Content Centric Network (CCN) rather than TCP/IP over VANET, called VCCN, it can provide efficient multicast communication of shared information among participating cars as well as offer corresponding one-to-one communications. This paper introduces SUMO for simulating traffic flows, VANET for car-to-car ad hoc communications, and CCN for a future Internet architecture. In addition, it compares and analyses the transmission performance of moving cars over VCCN. According to the simulation results using SUMO and VCCN, the larger the packet size, the better the transmission performance. In addition, VCCN provides higher packet transmission rate than that of TCP/IP when the clients shares the same contents. Furthermore, the overall data reception rate exceeds the physical transmission channel rate.

Geo-graphical routing protocols as GPSR are known to be very suitable and useful for vehicular ad-hoc networks. However, a corresponding node can include some stale neighbor nodes being out of a transmission range, and the stale nodes are pone to get a high priority to be a next relay node in the greedy mode. In addition, some useful redundant information can be eliminated during planarization in the recovery mode. This paper deals with a new recovery mode, the Greedy Border Superiority Routing(GBSR), along with an Adaptive Neighbor list Management(ANM) scheme. Each node can easily treat stale nodes on its neighbor list by means of comparing previous and current Position of a neighbor. When a node meets the local maximum, it makes use of a border superior graph to recover from it. This approach improve the packet delivery ratio while it decreases the time to recover from the local maximum. We evaluate the performance of the proposed methods using a network simulator. The results shown that the proposed protocol reveals much better performance than GPSR protocol. Please Put the of paper here.
Because of most notably the increase in vehicular traffic in Korea, as measured by highway transport usage, relief is being sought by expanding the construction of highways after 1970s'. These highways have opened up over 70 % of the mountainous areas in Korea's country side which includes the construction of tunnels. Currently there are 607 tunnels installed that are being maintained and by 2015, under the next medium-term plan, Korea will build an additional 440 tunnels. In addition, the use of 1,000m double-pole tunnels is expected to increase significantly in 256 locations. There is no doubt that these tunnels will relieve traffic congestion and aid improved communications, but halfclosed underground highway tunnels in particular are required to reduce tunnel fires caused by poor vehicle maintenance, and other factors such as speeding motorists that increase the number of vehicular accidents. Double-pole tunnels in 1,000m length over require vehicle drivers to be more cautious in terms of the continuous speed limit, judged by how devastating most of car-crash fires within these tunnels can be. In order to prevent these disasters, a full-length tunnel speed enforcement system should be considered mandatorily in legal clauses.
Wi-Fi based vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication is an emerging solution to improve the safety, traffic efficiency, and comfort of passengers. However, due to the high mobility of vehicles and the limited coverage of Wi-Fi APs, the V2I system may suffer from frequent handoffs although roadside APs can support cost effective Internet connectivity. Such problem of V2I systems can be overcome with Mobile AP (MAP) platform. The MAPs yield longer service duration by moving along with vehicles, yet they provide a lower link capacities than the roadside APs. In this paper, we propose a new association control mechanism that effectively determines whether the vehicle will select a fixed roadside-AP or a nearby MAP in mobile vehicular network environments. We consider both the achievable link bandwidth and available connection duration as a selection criterion and provide their run-time estimation method. Extensive simulation using real traces show significant performance improvements.

Small size and low profile antenna for mobile vehicular-top-mounted is needed in satellite communication services such as DBS, Satellite Internet and VSAT. In middle latitudes, the development of an array antenna which has the conformal, low profile and 45 degree beam tilted configuration, and has the high gain with sharp beamwidth, low sidelobe and low loss is required for Ku-band satellite communication. In this paper, in order to meet with these performances, an array antenna consisting of the vertical polarized waveguide longitudinal slots based on the leaky-wave mode of traveling wave antenna is proposed. An array antenna consisting of 16 leaky-wave elements is showing 30 dBi of gain, 4.9 degree of beamwidth, below than -20 dB of sidelobe level, 45 degree of beam tilt angle in center frequency. Feed network designed by waveguide cooperated feed shows good performance of wideband and low loss.

WAVE is a short-to-medium range communication standard that supports both public safety and private operations in roadside-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle communication environments. The core technology of physical layer in WAVE is orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which is sensitive to timing synchronization error. Besides, minimizing the latency in communication link is an essential characteristic of WAVE system. In this paper, a robust, low-complexity and small-latency timing synchronization algorithm suitable for WAVE system and its efficient hardware architecture are proposed. The comparison between proposed algorithm and other algorithms in terms of computational complexity and latency has shown the advantage of the proposed algorithm. The proposed architecture does not require RAM (Random Access Memory) which can affect the pipe lining ability and high speed operation of the hardware implementation. Synchronization error rate (SER) evaluation using both Matlab and FPGA implementation shows that the proposed algorithm exhibits a good performance over the existing algorithms.
