Generally the noise and vibration characteristics of 4WD vehicle is closely related to the characteristics of driveline such as bending mode, torsional mode, unbalance and nonuniformity of propeller shaft. In this paper the 4WD vehicle which has body vibration problem in high speed driving condition was tested. The sources of the body vibration and its transfer path are investigated by experimental approach. According to the experimental assessment, the body vibration is caused by the nonuniformity of joint of propeller shaft. And this paper presents a kinematic model of a vehicle driveline for the optimization of a driveline characteristics. Finally the optimized result of the drive line has been verified through the experiment.

This paper is the experimental study on the vibration reduction of the 4WD vehicle through the change of the engine mounting conditions.(4 stroke diesel engine) The engine mounting conditions are changed to reduce the transmitted vibrations of the engine to the frame at the idle speed. Under the assumption that the Powertrain(Engine Transmission and Transfer Case) is a rigid body, the inertia properties of the powertrain are obtained by experimental modal analysis. And then the changed mounting conditions are studied by the decoupled vibration theory and analytical model of six degree of freedom. Though the mounting conditions are changed to improve the vibration isolation at idle speed, the vibration and the interior noise of the vehicle are reduced significantly at driving speed as well as idle speed. From the indirect endurance test of the front engine mounts, the changed mounting conditions are desirable to endurance as well as vibration reduction of the 4WD vehicle.

Body-on-frame type vehicle has a set of frame bushes which are installed between body and frame fur vibration Isolation. Such frame bushes are important vibration transmission paths to passenger space. In order to reduce the vibration level of passenger space, therefore, the change of complex stiffness of the frame bushes is more efficient than modification of other parts of the vehicle such as body, frame and suspension. The purpose of this study is to reduce the vibration level for ride comfort by optimization of complex stiffness of frame bushes. In order to do this end, simple finite element vehicle model was constructed and the complex stiffness of frame bushes was set to be design variable. Objective function was defined to reflect passenger ride comfort and genetic algorithm and sub-structure synthesis were applied for minimization of the objective function.

The acceptance test of KTX has been performed in Korea. During the test lateral vibration of carbody over the accepted value called sway was found. Many activities have been taken to find the cause of the vibration and the counter-measure. KTX has 20 car trainset formation whose trailer cars are linked by articulate bogies. So this study is performed to see the effects of long trainset formation on vehicle dynamics and the train stability by 16 car vehicle model. Firstly the reliable vehicle model which shows well the tendencies appeared in the tests on the high speed test line is required to find the cause of lateral vibration and the countermeasure. Vehicle model was made for the analysis with VAMPIRE. The analysis results show that secondary air spring lateral stiffness is the most significant parameter to cause carbody lateral vibration. Mode analysis results show that the least damped mode shape is similar to the vibration pattern shown in the tests that the amplitude of the motion increases along the train set and decreases in the tail part. The lateral vibration was appeared at the speed range between 100km/h and 200km/h and disappeared at the low speed and the high speed.
Unlike structures in the air, the vibration analysis of a submerged or floating structure such as offshore structures or ships is possible only when the fluid-structure interaction is understood, as the whole or part of the structure is in contact with water. This paper introduces two methods to find natural frequency in consideration of fluid-structure interaction, direct coupled vibration analysis and fluid-structure modal coupled vibration analysis. The purpose of this study is to analyze the vibration characteristic of a submerged vehicle to obtain the anti-vibration design data, which could be used in the preliminary design stage. The underwater pressure hull of submerged vehicle is used as the model of this study. The F.E.M. model is meshed by shell and beam elements. Also, considering the inner hull weight, the mass element is distributed in the direction of hull length. Numerical calculations are accomplished by using the commercial B.E.M. code. The characteristics of natural frequency, mode shape and frequency-displacement response are analyzed.

Vibrating test of vehicle component can be possible in lab-based simulators instead of field testing owing to the development of technology in control algorithm as well as computational process. Currently, Multi-Axial Simulation Table(MAST) is recommended as a vibrating equipment, which excites a target component for 3-directional translation and rotation motion simultaneously and hence, vibrational condition can be fully approximated to that of real road test. But, the vibration-free performance of target component is not guaranteed with MAST system, which is only simulator subjective to the operator. Rather, the reliability of multi-axial vibration test is dependent on the quality of input profile which should cover the required severity of vibrating condition on target component. In this paper, multi-axial vibration testing methodology of vehicle component is presented here, from data acquisition of vehicle accelerations to the obtaining the input profile of MAST using severe data at proving ground. To compare the severity of vibration condition, between real road test and proving ground one, energy principle of equivalent damage is proposed to calculate energy matrices of acceleration data and then, it is determined the optimal combination of special events on proving ground which is equivalent to real road test at the aspects of vibration fatigue using sequential searching optimal algorithm. To explain the vibration methodology clearly, seat and door component of vehicle are selected as a example.

The freight vehicle is mostly used to transport the fruit. Shock and impact generated by the freight vehicle may give serious damage to fruits hence to reduce the fruits damage, the optimum packaging design during transportation by vehicle is required. In order to design the packaging system for fruit transportation optimally, the comprehension of characteristic for vibration and shock acting on vehicles under various road conditions and loading methods is required. This research was performed to analyze the shock characteristics, acceleration level and power spectral density (PSD) of the fruit transportation vehicles under several travel roads and positions. The vibration signal was measured and analyzed at the transportation vehicle operating on the road of three different surface conditions. The maximum acceleration was measured at the rear-end of the vehicle, and the acceleration in the direction of up-and-down (z-axis) was much greater than those in the directions of back-and-forth (x-axis) or right-and-left (y-axis). The peak acceleration in the direction of up-and-down (z-axis) at the vehicle driving on the expressway, the local road paved with concrete, and unpaved local road were 5.3621 G, 8.232 G, and 14.162 G respectively. PSD at 2.44 Hz showed maximum value at all road conditions. The maximum values of PSD on the expressway, a local road paved with concrete, and unpaved local road were 0.0075222 $G^2/Hz$, 0.058655 $G^2/Hz$, and 0.24598 $G^2/Hz$ respectively. The value of PSD decreased with an increase of the vibration frequency of the transportation vehicle. In most cases, the vibration frequency was below 20 Hz during transportation.

This paper presents ride comfort characteristics of a quarter-vehicle magneto-rheological (MR) suspension system with respect to different tire pressure. As a first step, controllable MR damper is designed and modeled based on both the optimized damping force levels and mechanical dimensions required for a commercial full-size passenger vehicle. Then, a quarter-vehicle suspension system consisting of sprung mass, spring, tire and the MR damper is constructed. After deriving the equations of the motion for the proposed quarter-vehicle MR suspension system, vertical tire stiffness with respect to different tire pressure is experimentally identified. The skyhook controller is then implemented for the realization of the quarter-vehicle MR suspension system. Finally, the ride comfort analysis with respect to different tire pressure is undertaken in time domain. In addition, a comparative result between controlled and uncontrolled is provided by presenting vertical RMS displacement.
