A 3kW Battery Charger with Battery Diagnosis Function Using Online Impedance Spectroscopy (온라인 임피던스 분광법을 이용한 배터리 진단 기능을 가진 3kW 충전기)

  • In the battery based applications such as electric vehicle and energy storage system, the performance of the system highly depends on the reliability of the battery. However, it is difficult to obtain the accurate information about the state-of-health (SOH) of battery during its operation. In this paper a 3kw battery charger with battery diagnosis function which can estimate the SOH of the battery by using online impedance spectroscopy technique is introduced. For the charger phase shift full bridge converter with synchronous rectification has been adopted to implement the charge and diagnosis functions. The impedance spectroscopy is performed after the charge to obtain the information about the internal impedance of the battery module, hence the SOH can be estimated online by observing the impedance variation of the battery over time. All the design procedure of the proposed charger is detailed and the feasibility of the system is verified by the experimental results.

  • The small electric vehicles equipped with V2X(vehicle to everything) systems may provide more information and function to the existing navigation system of the vehicle. The key components of V2X technology include V2V (vehicle to vehicle), V2N(vehicle to network) and V2I (vehicle to infrastructure). This study is to design and implementation of VI type E-PTO which is interfaced with external equipments, the work designs the components of E-PTO such as DC/DC converter, DC/AC converter, battery bidirectional charging system etc. Also, it implements the devices and control systems for driving. The test results of VI type E-PTO components showed allowable 10% requirements of transient voltage variation rate and recovery time within 100ms for start/stop and normal operation.

  • This paper proposes an improved Maximum Power Point Tracking method and design methods of unmanned solar vehicle system by parts of hardware, unmanned driving control and power conversion. The hardware design is offered on the weight reduction and structural reliability by using structural analysis software. The technique of curve fitting is applied to unmanned control system due to minimizing the vehicle's behavior. Furthermore, lateral controller applying actuator dynamics is robust enough to prevent performance degradation by measurement noise regarding position and heading angle. The power conversion system contains battery charger system and tapped-inductor boost converter. In the battery charger system, variable step-size MPPT is conducted for quick response of maximum power point tracking. The validity of the proposed algorithm are verified by simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper, an energy regeneration algorithm is proposed to make the maximum use of the regenerative braking energy for a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) equipped with a continuous variable transmission(CVT). The regenerative algorithm is developed by considering the battery state of charge(SOC), vehicle velocity and motor capacity. The hydraulic module consists of a reducing valve and a power unit to supply the front wheel brake pressure according to the control algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) is performed. In the HILS system, the brake system consists of four wheel brakes and the hydraulic module. Dynamic characteristics of the HEV are simulated using an HEV simulator. In the HEV simulator, each element of the HEV powertrain such as internal combustion engine, motor, battery and CVT is modelled using MATLAB/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In the HILS, a driver operates the brake pedal with his or her foot while the vehicle speed is displayed on the monitor in real time. It is found from the HILS that the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module suggested in this paper provide a satisfactory braking performance in tracking the driving schedule and maintaining the battery state of charge.

Effects of Chloride Concentration and Applied Current Density on Stray Current Corrosion Characteristics of 6061-T6 Al Alloy for Electric Vehicle Battery Housing (전기자동차 배터리 하우징용 6061-T6 알루미늄합금의 전식 특성에 미치는 염화물농도 및 인가전류밀도의 영향)

  • Interest in electric vehicle is on the rise due to global eco-friendly policies. To improve the efficiency of electric vehicles, it is essential to reduce weights of components. Since electric vehicles have various electronic equipment, the research on stray current corrosion is required. In this research, a galvanostatic corrosion experiment was performed on 6061-T6 Al alloy for electric vehicle battery housing using chloride concentration and applied current density as variables in a solution simulating an acid rain environment. As a result of the experiment, when chloride concentration and applied current density were increased, corrosion damage became larger. In particular, pitting damage was dominant at an applied current density of 0.1 mA/cm2. Pitting damage over the entire surface was found at a current density of 1.0 mA/cm2. In conclusion, chloride concentration had a relatively large effect on localized corrosion. The applied current density had a great effect on uniform corrosion. However, in the case of applied current density, localized corrosion was also greatly affected by interaction with chloride.

  • Lithium-ion batteries providing high gravimetric energy density are rapidly replacing Ni-Cd and Ni-H2 in aerospace applications. The main advantage is the weight reduction of the battery system. Weight is a major concern in aerospace applications. Also, lithium-ion offer low thermal dissipation, high energy efficiency, and low cell cost. The Onboard battery module for KSLV-I(Korea Space Launch Vehicle) contains 80 Sony US18650 cells configured as 10 strings in parallel, with each string containing 8 series connected cells. This allows to meet voltage and capacity requirements specified for the mission. In this paper design description and specifications of lithium-ion battery developed are presented. Qualification test flow is also shown to make sure the performance in the predicted space environment. Electrical performance was simulated by dedicated program, and verified with electronic load. Lastly, the capacity was proven on real equipment load assembly.

3-Dimensional UAV Path Optimization Based on Battery Usage Prediction Model (배터리 사용량 예측 모델 기반 3차원 UAV 경로 최적화)

  • In the case of an unmanned aerial vehicle using a battery as a power source, there are restrictions in performing the mission because the battery capacity is limited. To extend the mission capability, it is important to minimize battery usage while the flight to the mission area. In addition, by using the battery usage prediction model, the possibility of mission completeness can be determined and it can be a criterion for selecting an emergent landing point in the mission planning stage. In this paper, we propose a battery usage prediction model considering as one of the environmental factors in the three-dimensional space. The required power is calculated according to the flight geometry of an unmanned aerial vehicle. True battery usage which is predicted from the required power is verified through the comparison with the battery usage prediction model. The optimal flight trajectory that minimizes battery usage is produced and compared with the shortest travel distance.

In this paper to improve this problem, Dead battery Starter system is proposed. When the battery voltage is not satisfied with the minimum value.turn on the Dead Battery Starter switch, and the Dead Battery Starter supplies the control power to the SIV controller from the line voltage. With this Dead Battery Starter system, the train can be operated when the battery is not proper status. Dead Battery Starter is designed by ROTEM and will be delivered to Attiko Metro Series 2.

  • An advantage of electric vehicles is that they are environmentally sustainable because they do not emit exhaust gases, such as $CO_2$ or Nox. A disadvantage is the low power performance of the motor and battery source, necessitating a reduction in the weight of the vehicle to increase efficiency. Another disadvantage is that the rechargeable battery enables an electric vehicle to only run for a limited number of miles before requiring electric charging. To solve these problems, the hybrid vehicle has been developed by combining environmental sustainability with the high performance of a conventional internal combustion engine. In this study, an electric UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) was transformed into a hybrid vehicle system by outfitting the vehicle with a drive auxiliary power system including a 125 cc internal combustion engine. This modification enabled us to extend the range of the hybrid UTV from 50km to 100km per one electric charging.
