Status of Mechanization of Small Farms in India

  • In indian agricultural , the energy use pattern has played dominant role in influencing the level of mechanization . Besides that the agro-climatic factors as well as the size of holdings do affect the degree of mechanization . Nearly 30 percent of total cultivated area is owned by l76 percent of the small and tiny land holders each owning even less than a hectare. On the other hand, about 2 percent of land owners cultivate land. These variabilitieshave greatly influenced the ownership of power sources on Indian farms. Small farmers, employ human and animal energies with the use of hand tools and animal drawn equipments. Whereases, the use of tractors, power tillers, electric motors, etc. on small farms is on a marginal scale. There are few pockets and also extensive wheat growing regions where mechanical and electrical power sources are extensively used in production agriculture leading to about 185% of cropping intensity . In that region, the animal energy is employed for on the farm transport of fertilizers, fodders and fuel to support milch animals and other household activities . Inspite of high degree of mechanization, the harvesting of crops is done by human labour with few exceptions of harvesting wheat crops by combines in few pockets. In overall assessment of mechanization, the following conclusions are drawn : ⅰ) Farm operation which show a growing trend of mechanization are (a) tillge, (b) seedling (c) Irrigation (d) Plant protection application (e) Threshing and (f) Transport . ⅱ) Crop cultivation system in respect of wheat, maize and sorghum have been greatly mechanized. ⅲ) The least mechanized cropping systems are (a) vegetable production and (b) cultivation of sugarcane, cotton, rice and pulses. ⅳ) Annual production of tractor has touched the figure of 280.000 by 1995 and the total number has crossed 1.5million on Indian farms.

  • 지속적인 기후변화의 영향과 코로나 19로 인한 노동력 감소 등의 영향으로 매년 농작물의 작황 및 수확시기, 재배면적 등이 급격히 변화하고 있다. 이러한 상황에 탄력적으로 대응하기 위해서 ICT (Information and Communication Technology)를 기반으로 한 스마트팜 기술을 개별 농가에 적용하는 시도가 증가하고 있다. 한편, 다양한 기관에서 인공지능 기술 및 IoT 기술을 적용한 농작물의 수확량 예측을 시도하고 있으나 학습데이터의 부족으로 인해서 정확한 예측이 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 특정 기관에 국한된 데이터 수집의 한계를 극복하기 위해 농민들이 직접 참여하여 정확한 데이터를 입력하고 공유하여 생산량을 예측하는 커뮤니티 매핑 기반의 스마트 파머 서비스 기술을 개발하였다. 그 과정에서 생산량에 비하여 가격 변동이 큰 작물인 배추를 대상으로 분석을 수행하였다.

강원도 고랭지 채소 재배지의 토양 비옥도관리 현황과 전망 (Fertility Status in Northeastern Alpine Soils of South Korea with Cultivation of Vegetable Crops)

  • 지난 2, 30년 동안에 진행되고 있는 한국인의 식생활변화와 함께 채소 작물에 대한 수요가 급격히 증가하면서 강원도 고랭지 토양이 여름 채소 재배지로 각광을 받게 되었고 그 재배 면적이 매년 확대 일로에 있다. 이 토양의 비옥도를 유지 내지는 향상시키고 적절한 관리를 기하기 위해 광범위하고 집중적인 조사와 검정을 실시하여 얻은 결과의 일부를 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있었다. 조사된 토양은 일반적으로 양토 내지는 사양토로써 배수가 양호하였으며 대부분 경사지에 놓여 있기 때문에 심할 경우 침식의 위험에 노출되게 되어 경작충이 매우 얕았으며, 이 중 30% 또는 그 이상의 경사도를 가진 토양 11%는 곧 다시 조림해야 할 정도로 농경지로써는 부적절하였다. 이미 받은 침식으로 인해 자갈 함량이 높았으며 토양의 경도 역시 식물의 뿌리 신장과 농기구 사용에 지장을 줄 정도였다. 토양의 pH는 산성화 쪽으로 진행되었고, 유기물 함량, 치환성 염기인 Ca, Mg, 그리고 K의 함량은 경작 연수가 증가함에 따라 감소하였는데 유효 인산 ($P_2O_5$)만은 농가의 퇴구비 과다 사용 결과로 인해 크게 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 양이온 치환용량(CEC)과 전기 전도도(EC)는 토양과 토양 사이에 별 차이가 없었다. 이 지역의 고랭지 토양은 아직 Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn 그리고 Ni등의 중금속 원소에 의한 토양 오염의 영향을 받지 않은 것으로 나타났다.

  • The purpose of this article is analyzing the economic impacts of abnormal climate on fall chinese cabbage farmers and consumers in Korea, with employing the equilibrium displacement model. Our results show that there were little difference in gross farm income, even though there were significant yield reductions due to abnormal climate changes. However periodic occurrences of abnormal climates caused serious damage to consumption levels which had declined by 10.6~17.1 percent with higher prices by 15.3~24.6 percent than normal climate years since 1990.

Postharvest technologies for fruits and vegetables in South Asian countries: a review

  • Agricultural systems in South Asian countries are dominated by smallholder farmers. Additionally, these farmers have limited access to pre- and post-harvest technologies due to their high initial cost. The lack of these technologies in postharvest handling is responsible for 20% to 44% of fruit and vegetable losses. These high losses are largely the result of a generally weak basic postharvest infrastructure for the preservation of products, which avoids damage from improper handling, transportation, packaging, and storage. High postharvest losses of products negatively affect food availability, food security, and nutrition, as the producer is able to sell less of the farm yield and the net availability of these food commodities for consumption is reduced. An underlying cause of these postharvest losses is the limited awareness and knowledge bases of stakeholders (researchers, farmers, governments, non-governmental organizations, and merchants) in the traditional supply chains in which these losses occur. The analysis presented in this paper explores the state of postharvest practice in South Asian countries and discusses options for low-cost postharvest technologies in the region that can support small-scale farmers and provide a viable pathway for supply to the market, joining with modern value chains and bringing about individual and regional reduction in postharvest losses of fruits and vegetables. The improvement of basic and simple low-cost technologies through precise research efforts has the potential to prevent such huge losses of products, and help meet the ever-increasing demand for food in South Asian countries.

폐식물성혼합유지 바이오디젤의 농용기관특성 평가 (Farm Engine Characteristics of Biodiesel using Mixed Waste Vegetable Oil)

  • 화석연료의 고갈과 환경오염이 문제시 되면서 친환경 에너지개발에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그중 바이오디젤은 동,식물성유지 및 폐식용유를 이용하여 생산이 가능할뿐더러 농용엔진에 특별한 개조 없이 사용가능하다. 또한 바이오디젤 자체에 산소를 함유하고 있어 이산화탄소 저감에 효율적이다. 바이오 디젤에 관한 많은 연구가 수행되었으며, 기존의 연구는 단일유지의 폐식용유를 사용하여 바이오디젤을 생산하는 연구가 진행되었다. 하지만 가정에서 배출되는 식물성 폐식용유의 경우 여러 가지가 혼합되어 배출되고 있어, 혼합폐식용유지의 바이오디젤 특성평가가 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 폐식물성유지(폐대두유, 폐카놀라유, 폐해바라기유)를 중량비(1:4, 1:1.5 1:0.66, 1:0.25)로 혼합하여 바이오디젤을 생산하고, 생산한 바이오디젤을 농용기관에 이용하여 농용기관의 출력특성 및 배기배출물특성 평가를 실시하였다. 실험에 사용된 농용기관은 배기량이 673cc인 직접분사식 디젤기관(ND10DE, Daedong, Korea)이며, 엔진성능평가를 위해 토크는 토크센서(YDL-704s, Setech, Korea)를 사용하였다. 배기배출물 평가는 배기가스분석기(HG-550, Airlex, Germany)를 이용하여 이산화탄소, 질소산화물을의 배출량을 측정하였다. 폐식용유를 이용하여 생산한 바이오디젤과 경유의 기관성능을 비교한 결과 토크와 축출력의 경우 BD의 혼합량이 증가할수록 줄어들었다. 토크는 혼합된 유지에 따라 상용운전범위인 1500rpm~2400rpm에서 평균 대두와 카놀라유를 혼합하여 생산한 BD10은 7.2%, BD20은 12.1% 감소하였고, 대두와 해바라기유를 혼합하여 생산한 BD10은 11.3% BD20은 16.3% 감소하였다. 또한 해바라기와 카놀라유를 혼합하여 생산한 BD10은 8.3%, BD20은 14.6% 감소하였다. 이는 BD의 발열량이 경유에 비해 낮아 토크가 감소한 것으로 판단된다. 또한 배기배출물 평가의 경우 질소산화물은 BD의 함랑이 증가함에 따라 경유에 비해 배출량이 증가하는 경향을 보였고, 이산화탄소는 저감되는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 바이오디젤이 함산소연료이므로, 연료내의 산소로 인해 완전연소를 촉진시켜 이산화탄소를 저감시키고 질소산화물은 증가된 것으로 판단된다.

  • 무우, 배추, 고추, 오이에 기생하는 진딧물의 종류와 주요종의 발생소장을 $1982{\sim}1984$의 3개년간 살충제 무살포 조건에서 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 무우와 배추의 기생진딧물은 복숭아혹진딧물, 무우테두리진딧물, 싸리수염진딧물, 목화진 디물의 4종으로 주요종은 복숭아혹진딧물과 무우테두리진딧물 2종이었다. 2. 고추의 기생진딧물은 복숭아혹진딧물, 목화진딧물, 싸리수염진딧물의 3종으로, 복숭아혹진 딧물과 목화진딧물 2종이 주요종이었고, 오이에서는목화진딧물, 싸리수염진딧물, 복숭아혹진딧물이 기생하나 목화진딧물 1종이 우점종이었다. 3. 순별강우량이 200mm 이상일 때, 진딧물의 밀도는 급격한 감소를 보였다. 4. 무우와 배추의 복숭아혹진딧물과 무우테두리진딧물, 고추의 복숭아혹진딧물과 목화진딧물은 두 종간의 상대밀도에 있어서 봄에 다발생한 종은 가을에 소발생하였다.

Consideration about Resident Participation Activities for Maintenance and Use OPen Space with Community Development in Hachioji New Town

  • Maintenance open spaces and community development in large scale housing development is one of the most important issues. We(UDC) established a resident participation activity for maintenance and use open space with community development in Hachioji New Town from 1997. The purpose of this study is to establish resident participation activities for maintenance and use open space with community development in Hajichioji New Town, and to clarify the characteristics and to on sider about efficiency of the activity. We established Minamino Shizen-Juku as a methodology for maintenance and use open spaces at the same time Hachioji New Town was opened in 1997. The activity has continued by now in 2001. We conducted questionnaire survey to make sure efficiency and characteristics of the activity past three years. Minamino Shizen-Juku (nature friendly lessons) is a resident participation activity in Hachioji New Town. It was established in 1997 as soon as the new town was opened, this year is fifth since it was started. It has three objects. 1)Maintenance and use woody environment, 2) Community development, 3) Continuation and renewal native culture. And it has general course, three special courses and one extra course were established in the activity. 1) General course is an activity participated all of member. It's included farming experience in the native field and seasonal events. 2) Rice growing and woods maintenance course is rice growing and wild wood maintenance in the park as a series of annual farming activities. 3) Benefaction from farm course is started from planting spring vegetable at Mizukoshi(Leader of Minamino Shezen-Juku)'s field. There is the number of participant limit because of the area of the field. 4) Watching nature course is watching seasonal wild flowers, trees, animals and plants to know about native nature. 5) Extra program is programmed to know about native history and tradition. It's planned including participant's ideas. Not member can participate in this course too.

  • Background: Angelica acutiloba Kitagawa belongs to the flowering plant family Apiaceae. Its young leaves are consumed as a vegetable, and its roots have medicinal properties. This study was conducted to analyze the seed germination characteristics of A. acutiloba according to its ripening stages. Methods and Results: The seeds were harvested from a research farm managed by the Department of Herbal Crop Research, Rural Development Administration in 2018 and were divided into six groups according to their specific gravities. In particular, we studied the effect of harvesting periods and umbel orders on seed characteristics. The results showed that the rates of germination, emergence, and early growth improved as the specific gravity of the seeds increased. In addition, the germination rates of the seeds harvested in mid July and early August were significantly higher than those harvested in the other seasons, and the seeds obtained from the first floret had the greatest mass and weight. Conclusions: In this study, we demonstrated that it is possible to improve the germination rate by appropriate selection of seeds and harvesting period both of which are closely related to seed maturity.

Experimental Studies on the Skin Barrier Improvement and Anti-inflammatory Activity based on a Bibliometric Network Map

  • Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin diseases caused by skin barrier dysfunction. Allium victoralis var. Platyphyllum (AVP) is a perennial plant used as vegetable and herbal medicine. The purpose of this study was to suggest that AVP is a new cosmetic material by examining the effects of AVP on the skin barrier and inflammatory response. A bibliometric network analysis was performed through keyword co-occurrence analysis by extracting author keyword from 69 articles retrieved from SCOPUS. We noted the anti-inflammatory activity shown by the results of clustering and mapping from network visualization analysis using VOSviewer software tool. HPLC-UV analysis showed that AVP contains 0.12 ± 0.02 mg/g of chlorogenic acid and 0.10 ± 0.01 mg/g of gallic acid. AVP at 100 ㎍/mL was shown to increase the mRNA levels of filaggrin and involucrin related to skin barrier function by 1.50-fold and 1.43-fold, respectively. In the scratch assay, AVP at concentrations of 100 ㎍/mL and 200 ㎍/mL significantly increased the cell migration rate and narrowed the scratch area. In addition, AVP suppressed the increase of inflammation-related factors COX-2 and NO and decreased the release of β-hexosaminidase. This study suggests that AVP can be developed as a functional cosmetic material for atopy management through skin barrier protection effects, anti-inflammatory and anti-itch effects.
