  • Daylight is one of the most critical factors that can be utilized for architectural spaces; compared to artificial light, it is a sustainable energy source without the cost of electric energy and offers a more natural feeling to the visitors in the building. To make the space quality better, many architects have tried to predict daylight performance during the design process. The aim of this study is to evaluate the daylight transmittance efficacies of the five shapes - Flat, Pyramid, Dome, Barrel Vault. Ridge - of skylights. The results of this study indicated that the differences of transmittance efficiency among various skylights were less than 4.6% except the flat shaped skylight. Therefore, this study shows that there were no big differences of the daylight transmittance efficacies among the shapes of skylights.

  • As for safety assessment of a radioactive waste disposal facility, radiation dose to inadvertent intruders is evaluated according to scenarios related to intruder's postulated activities at the disposal site after the end of Institutional Control Period(ICP). Simple trench and Below Ground Vault(BGV) are considered for this study as alternative disposal systems, and different scenarios are applied to each disposal type. The results show that 300 years of ICP is needed for simple trench and 100 years for BGV. Even for BGV, concentration of long-lived radioactive nuclides should be limited considering degradation of BGV after 300 years.

  • The quantitative analysis of view tells how surroundings and sky are showed, and requires understanding of visual perception and three dimensional information of buildings. The visual perception and the existing projection methods for view analysis are examined. The results of this study are as follows: The visual perception on the size is determined by the visual angle, which can be described as a solid angle. The analysis of view by planar projection can be narrow-sighted according to the size of the window and the location of the viewpoint, which will cause the obstacles in the normal direction of the window interfere the view. For the analysis of view by fisheye projection, the area around the focus point is calculated wider than other areas, and so the view ratio depends on the position of the focus point. When analyzing sky view by dividing the sky vault into the differential area, the distortion by projection can be minimized.

  • This is a case report of Crouzon's disease as a kind of craniofacial dysostosis by premature closure of unilateral coronal suture, showed plagiocephalic skull. 5-year-old boy was visited for the treatment of dental caries and oral examination. Physical examination showed hypertelorism, internal strabismus, and saddle nose. Intraoral radiographs showed congenital missing of upper right and left deciduous and permanent lateral incisors. Cephalometric analysis showed shortening the posterior cranial base length, clockwise growth pattern and class III and open bite tendency. Posterior-anterior and submentovertex view showed multiple radiolucencies-digital impression on inner surface of cranial vault. Maxillo-facial and neuro-surgical treatment was required to improvement of facial esthetics and optic complications. Continuous examination was needed to the growth and development.

  • Although meningioma is a common and benign intracranial tumor, meningioma en plaque is a rare tumor, especially in the cranial vault. Meningioma en plaque[MEP] usually occurs in the area of the sphenoid wing, and it causes cosmetic and visual problems, as well as the problems that are due to its mass effect. The authors present here a case of convexity meningioma en plaque that involved the skull and scalp with diffuse hyperostosis as the presenting salient radiological findings, which caused marked intraoperative bleeding.

  • We propose an algorithm for video effects of sports broadcasting that informs TV viewers of a sports player's sequential performing forms and locus in detail when gymnastic game such as 'vault' is broadcasted. It records the image sequences while a player is performing, extracts only the player's performing forms from background scenes by a proposed algorithm, superposes them sequentially on a background scene, and broadcasts them with slow speed. This system named as 'Multi-Motion' has ever been used in NHK live broadcasting for 1995 World Gymnastics Championships held in Japan.

  • Osteoma is one of the most common tumors of the cranial vault and the facial skeleton. For osteoma in the facial region, endoscopic resection is widely used to prevent surgical scarring. Tumors in a total of 14 patients were resected using an endoscopic holmium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Ho:YAG) laser with a long flexible fiber. Aside from having the advantage of not leaving a scar due to the use of endoscopy, this procedure allowed resection at any position, was minimally invasive, and caused less postoperative pain. This method yielded excellent cosmetic results, so the endoscopic Ho:YAG laser is expected to emerge as a good treatment option for osteoma.

  • A 10-year-old spayed female Maltese dog weighting 3.4 kg was referred with growing firm mass at the parietal bone region from 2 weeks ago. A firm, partially calcified mass ($1.9cm{\times}4.4cm$) was palpated in the region of the frontal and parietal skulls but had no neurologic signs. Computed tomography (CT) characteristics of mass were round to oval shape, fine granular appearance, and well defined margins. Mass involving the calvarial bones had invasion into the cranial vault with a significant intracranial portion. Histologically, the tumor was characterized by the presence of multiple lobules containing osteoid or cartilage in the center that were separated by anastomosing fibrous septae. This is case report described the clinical and histopathological features of multilobular tumor of skull in a Maltese dog.

  • We improved a visualization system for a player's sequential forms called‘Multi-Motion’which has ever been used in NHK live broadcasting. It is to extract only the player's forms from background, and overlap them into one frame sequentially after fast performance for a vault game of gymnastics. It helps TV viewers understand the player's performing forms easily. We increased the performance of Multi-Motion by shortening the distance between the current frame and the reference frame, and the synthesis of the reference frame.
