  • We introduce the outline of our research plans concerning mental image expression for the purpose of communication. We are studying the Computer Organized Media Integration & Communication System (COMICS)as a flexible media handling environment. The system can expand the potential of mental image expression by freely handling and integrating various kinds of media. An experimental COMICS is also introduced.

  • As various media have developed in modern society, frequency of use of interactive media has increased which makes interactive function that uses and handles projection mapping and LED screen in set design of broadcasting, concert, play, musical and EDM(Electronic dance music) in real time possible. Development of various media led today's viewers to have higher cultural desire and the need of various interactive performance contents to receive more attention.[1]. This thesis implemented real time VJing that responds to user's motion based on existing H/W by utilizing real time interactive elements.

A Study of Perception of Media Characteristics: Focused on Developing MAIX(Media Advertising Impact Index) model (매체 속성 평가에 따른 매체가치 비교 연구: 매체 광고 영향력 지수(MAIX: Media Advertising Impact Index) 개발을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate perception of media characteristics inorder to provide a theoretical background for the media mix strategy. Considering the qualitative-vale of each medium, this study conducted a survey consisting of 60 academic and advertising industry experts to examine how they perceive and evaluate the characteristics of TV, radio, newspaper, OOH, Internet, mobile, and digital signage in terms of media effectiveness. The results, first, show that 'media engagement', 'effective reach', and 'behavioral targeting' are three most important indices to assess the media effectiveness. Second, the Internet was best evaluated in its various aspects according to the MAIX model, which gauges the effectiveness of each advertising medium. The study also proved that each advertising medium has unique advantages so that each medium should adopt a strategic positioning to differentiate it from other media. As such, this study provides meaningful evidences to understand the various characteristics and competitive value of advertising media and useful guidelines for media planning.

  • Each reproducing speech signal has each particular signal property, because of the processing of encoding and decoding for communications through various media. In this paper, we examine the correlation between speech signal quality and sensory pleasure for the sensory improvement of that signal. In experiments, we evaluate the quality of speech signals through various media by psychological auditory test and physical features of these signals.

  • A media-feeding (or media-transport) system is a key component in daily consumer systems such as printers, copiers and ATM's. The role of the media-transport system is to feed a medium, which is usually in the form of a thin film, to the main process in a uniform and repeatable manner. Even small slippage between the media and the feeding rollers could significantly degrade the performance of the entire system. The slippage between the medium and the feeding rollers is determined by many parameters which include the friction coefficient between the feeding rollers and the medium material, the angular velocity of the feeding rollers, and the normal force applied by feeding rollers on the medium. This paper investigates the effect of the normal force and the angular velocity of feeding rollers on the slippage of the medium. Authors have constructed a test bed for experiments, which consists of a feeding module and various measuring devices. Using regular paper as media being fed, the authors experimentally measured the slippage of the medium under various normal forces and angular velocities of driving feeding roller. Also the authors developed a novel two-dimensional simulation model for the media-transport system. The paper medium is modeled as a set of multiple rigid bodies interconnected by revolute joints and rotational springs and dampers. Simulations were executed using a multi-body dynamic analysis tool called RecurDy $n^{ⓡ}$. The slippage obtained by the simulation is compared to experimental results.ults.

The Effect of Lipid Concentration in Culture Medium on Senescence and Lipid Peroxides Production of Fibroblast from Neonate Rats (배양액내 지방함량의 변화가 신생흰쥐 피부섬유아세포의 노화와 지질과산화물 생성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of lipid on cellular senescence, lipid peroxide production, and morphological changes. For this study we used primary skin fibroblasts from neonate rats grown in media various lipid contents. Fibroblasts were cultured until they lost their proliferation potential either in control medium (Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium supplement with 10% fetal bovine serum) or in media supplemented with various concentrations of lipid-cholesterol rice component from bovine serum. Cumulative population doublings(CPD, as an index of cellular life span), and cellular thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS, as an index of lipid peroxide) concentrations were measured and morphological changes were observed. CPD were shortened with increasing lipid concentration in media ; 28.12 for cells grown in control medium and 13.42, 11.42, and 6.19 for those grown in 0.1%, 1% and 5% lipid rich components containing media, respectively. Cellular proliferation ratios were those grown in 5% lipid rich components containing media were delayed and they were degenerated soon. TBARS concentrations were increased with increasing concentration of lipid in media. Morphological changes were observed in cells grown in control medium by cellular senescence. Especially lipid droplets were observed in cells grown in 5% lipid rich components containing media. Therefore it seems that lipid contents in media had an effect on cellular proliferation and cellular life span, possibly via lipid peroxide production.

  • The expansion of media art has not only developed the digital technology but also given lots of environmental evolution to improve various fields of design as the main topic of the 21st century. The purpose of this study is aimed at proposing the new design that integrates fashion accessaries with media art technology. This will be done by understanding the social environment in digital ages and studying technology of design based on a variety of literature about changes in our society, neo value, vision, culture and art with fundamental notion of media art. First stage for this study, put an idea into just fashion accessary design because it is not sufficient to incoporate fashion and media art technology. The presented OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diodes) in this study is a kind of display to be in a limelight in the next generation and can be applied to various field of design. media art simultaneously moved into the scope of artistic debates. As a result, we can found that the use of audiovisual introduced numerous new aspects to the conceptual and aesthetic engagement with questions of conception. Today, the presented forms of art and inter-action from the closed -circuit work to interactive media art installations to open process-exist as parallel possibilities.

The types and expressions of new media fashion film

  • A new form of media is changing the expression and content of fashion. In this paper, fashion films that have appeared since 2010 - when digital fashion communication was increasing - will be discussed and explored to consider how technological transitions in fashion media are changing the appearance and role of fashion. A literature review was conducted to derive characteristics, types, and expressive elements of new media fashion films, which were defined for this study as fashion films produced and distributed since 2010 using digital media. Films were categorized into three types: promotional, editorial, and independent fashion films. Furthermore, elements of the films were identified as fashion mise-en-scene, auditory structure, and content structure. Types and expressions of digital fashion images in 40 fashion films were analyzed according to these elements. The results showed that promotional fashion films maximize various narrative and sensory effects on fashion products, whilst editorial fashion films strengthen the role of entertainment. Independent fashion films expand the area of fashion and promote the diversification of fashion systems. Moreover, the results show that fashion films are not a secondary form of media that just expresses fashion; they provide a tool for the creation of new fashion content. New media fashion films promote the expansion of expressive spectra and boundaries, offering various multisensory experiences of fashion, and enhancing creativity and the aesthetic values of fashion.

Generation Z and Its OTT Usage Patterns: The Case of Netflix in Korea

  • This study aims to reveal the various differences within the factors that influence use satisfaction, continuous use intention, and media substitution intention, specifically in regard to the use motives and use behaviors of Netflix viewers. This study's results demonstrate that the following various factors affected use satisfaction, continuous use intention, and media substitution intention in differential ways. Firstly, the diversity of content influenced use satisfaction to a greater degree than social relations; and the diversity of content, social relations, and active participation all positively influenced continuous use intention. In other words, the more positively users appreciated the diversity of content, and the more strongly they had social relations, and the more actively they participated within communities, the greater degree to which they increased their continuous use intention for Netflix. However, the diversity of content and the convenience of use also had a negative effect on the media substitution intention for Netflix, which means that the more diverse the content and the more convenient the use of Netflix, the fewer the number of users who intended to cancel Netflix and subscribe to another OTT service or resubscribe to traditional media sources.

  • In this paper, we propose a new framework for scalable media object to adapt the various QoS requirements in the heterogeneous networking environment. An MPEG-2 video is split into a set of scalable media objects in terms of temporal scaling and fidelity scaling. The portion of the scalable media objects is selectively delivered to adapt the QoS requirement. This framework can satisfy the various QoS requirements on bandwidth, even though the clients share a multipoint channel. By analysis on the rate-distortion characteristics of scalable media object framework, we shows our approach is feasible to support the various QoS requirements.
