Study on Response of Ecosystem to the East Asian Monsoon in Eastern China Using LAI Data Derived from Remote Sensing Information

  • Based on the Leaf Area Index (LAI) data derived from remote sensing information and eco-climate data, the responses of regional ecosystem variations in seasonal and interannual scales to the East Asian monsoon are studied in this paper. It is found that the vegetation ecosystems of eastern China are remarkably correlated with the East Asian monsoon in seasonal and interannual scales. In the seasonal timescale, the obvious variations of the vegetation ecosystems occur with the development of the East Asian monsoon from the south in the spring to the north in the autumn. In the interannual scale, high LAI appears in the strong East Asian monsoon year, whereas low LAI is related to the weak East Asian monsoon year. These further lead to the characteristic of 'onsoon-driven ecosystem' in the eastern China monsoon region, which can be revealed by LAI.

화재 조기 인식을 위한 화염 및 연기 검출 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Flame and Smoke Detection for Early Fire Recognition)

  • 본 논문에서는 화재의 조기 감지를 위하여 카메라 입력영상으로부터 화염과 연기를 검출하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 화염과 연기는 특정 색분포를 가지며 지속적으로 형태가 변화하며 움직인다. 제안하는 화염검출 알고리즘은 화염의 색분포와 영상 프레임간의 변화를 측정하여 후보영역을 설정하고 화염의 움직임벡터를 계산하여 화염을 확정한다. 연기에 의하여 영상의 고주파수 성분이 감소하기 때문에 경계값의 변화는 연기의 중요한 특징이다. 연기검출은 색분포, 영상 프레임간의 변화 그리고 경계를 이용하여 후보영역을 설정하고 움직임 벡터를 계산하여 결정한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안하는 알고리즘으로 화염과 연기를 검출할 수 있음을 보인다.

Seasonal and solar activity variations of the Weddell Sea Anomaly observed in the TOPEX TEC measurements

  • The Weddell Sea Anomaly (WSA) in the ionosphere is characterized by higher plasma density at night than during the day in the region near the Weddell Sea. According to previous studies on the WSA, it is known to occur mostly in southern summer and has not been reported in other seasons. We have utilized more than 13-year TOPEX TEC measurements in order to study how the WSA varies with seasons and how it changes with solar activity. The TOPEX TEC data have been extensively utilized for the climatological study of the ionosphere due to its excellent spatial and temporal coverage. We investigate the seasonal and solar activity variations of the WSA using four seasonal cases (Mar. equinox, Jun. solstice, Sep, equinox, and Dec. solstice) and two solar activity conditions (F10.7<120 for solar minimum and F10.7>120 for solar maximum conditions) for geomagnetically quiet periods. Our analysis shows that the WSA occurs only in the southern summer hemisphere for low F10.7, as in previous studies, but the WSA occurs all of seasons except for winter when F10.7 is high: it is most prominent during the December solstice (southern summer) and still strong during both equinoxes. The WSA appears to be an extreme case of global longitudinal variations at mid- and high-latitudes.

측정망 자료를 이용한 환경기준 대기오염물질의 권역별 단기 고농도 변화 추이 (Regional Trends in Short-Term High Concentrations of Criteria Pollutants from National Air Monitoring Stations)

  • While attainment rates for $SO_2$ and CO approached 100%, those for $PM_{10}$, $NO_2$, and $O_3$ have been low during the past decade. The attainment rates for 24-h $PM_{10}$ and 8-h $O_3$ have been only 1~3% and 5~12%, respectively, since the standards were strengthened in 2007. Variations in the 99th percentiles of 24-h $PM_{10}$, 8-h $O_3$, and 24-h $NO_2$, which are used as criteria for determining exceedance of standards, were examined by region. Because the analysis was based on short-term high-concentrations, the effects of Asian dust were observed for $PM_{10}$. Accordingly, it is necessary to specify whether exceptional events such as Asian dust will be included or not in determining the exceedances of standards. While variations in $NO_2$ were not large, there was an increasing trend in $O_3$. In the Yeongnam region, the increasing rate of $O_3$ concentrations was small although the decreasing rate of $NO_2$ was the greatest. In the Gangwon region, $NO_2$ concentrations were almost unchanged, but $O_3$ concentrations experienced a significant increase. Regional management strategies targeting short-term high concentrations of criteria pollutants analogous to the Special Act for the greater Seoul area will aid in improving attainment rates.

High Prevalence of the China 1 Strain of Epstein-Barr Virus in Korea as Determined by Sequence Polymorphisms in the Carboxy-Terminal Tail of LMP1

  • The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent membrane protein 1 (LMPI) exhibits considerable sequence heterogeneity among EBV isolates. Seven distinct EBV strains have been defined based on sequence polymorphisms in the LMPI gene, which are designated China 1, China 2, China 3, Alaskan, Mediterranean, NC, and the B95-8 strains. In this study, we analyzed a 30-bp deletion and sequence variations in the carboxy-terminal region of the LMPl gene in 12 EBV isolates from spontaneous lym-phoblastoid cell lines derived from individuals with non-EBV associated cancers in Korea. Eleven of the 12 isolates showed a 30-bp deletion spanning LMPI amino acids 342 to 353, suggesting a high prevalence of the LMPI 30-bp deletion variant among EBV isolates in Korea. In addition, all 12 isolates had a 15-bp common deletion in the 33-bp repeat region and multiple base-pair changes relative to the prototype B95-8 EBV strain along with variations in the number of the 33-bp repeats. The bp changes at positions 168746, 168694, 168687, 168395, 168357, 168355, 168631, 168320, 168308, 168295, and 168225 were highly conserved among the isolates. Comparative analysis of sequence change patterns in the LMPI carboxy-terminal coding region identified nine 30-bp deletion variants as China 1, two deletion variants as a possible interstrain between the Alaskan and China 1 strains, and a single undeleted variant as a possible variant of the Alaskan strain. These results suggest the predominance of the China 1 EBV strain in the Korean population.

진동 유동장에서 유동공진에 의한 실린더 후류의 와류 특성 변화 (Change of Vortex Dynamics in the Cylinder Wake by the Lock-on to Oscillatory Incident Flow)

  • When vortex shedding is locked-on to a single frequency oscillatory flow, the variations of vortex dynamics are investigated using a time-resolved PIV system. Wake regions of recirculation and vortex formation, dynamic behavior of the shed vortices and the Reynolds stress fields are measured in the wake-transition regime at the Reynolds number 360. In the lock-on state, reduction of the wake region occurs and flow energy distributed downstream moves upstream being concentrated near the cylinder base. To observe the dynamic behavior of the shed vortices, the trajectory of the vortex center extended to the inside of the wake bubble is considered, which describes well the formation and evolution processes. The Reynolds stresses and their contributions to overall force balance on the wake bubble manifest the increase of the drag force by the lock-on.

Non-Conventional Roughages in Tropical and Sub-Tropical Asian-Australasian Countries - Review -

  • Non-conventional roughage (NCR) is shrub and tree fodders, crop residues and agroindustrial oy-products which is not commonly used as livestock feed traditionally and commercially. Eventhough many sources of NCR is available, the farmers perceptions on NCR not only vary from country to country in tropical and sub-tropical Asian-Australasian countries, but also vary from region to region within the country. Chemical composition and nutritive value of NCR are not only vary from species to species but also vary between species within the genera, between provenances/cultivars within the species and such variations are affected by season, climatic zone, topography and land utilization. The nutritive value of NCR can be improved by physical, chemical and biological treatments and conservation. Feeding NCR to ruminant and non-ruminant is not only improve performance of the livestock but also economically feasible. Future direction of NCR is inventarization, exchange information through NCR information centre, integration with either agrisilvicultural, agrisilvipastoral or silvipastoral system, and use of genetic engineering to produce high quality NCR that ultimately become conventional roughage for agroindustry and agribissiness.

Analysis of Transport Characteristics for FinFET Using Three Dimension Poisson's Equation

  • This paper has been presented the transport characteristics of FinFET using the analytical potential model based on the Poisson's equation in subthreshold and threshold region. The threshold voltage is the most important factor of device design since threshold voltage decides ON/OFF of transistor. We have investigated the variations of threshold voltage and drain induced barrier lowing according to the variation of geometry such as the length, width and thickness of channel. The analytical potential model derived from the three dimensional Poisson's equation has been used since the channel electrostatics under threshold and subthreshold region is governed by the Poisson's equation. The appropriate boundary conditions for source/drain and gates has been also used to solve analytically the three dimensional Poisson's equation. Since the model is validated by comparing with the three dimensional numerical simulation, the subthreshold current is derived from this potential model. The threshold voltage is obtained from calculating the front gate bias when the drain current is $10^{-6}A$.

가변 격판을 갖는 사각공간 내의 혼합대류에 대한 실험과 수치해석 (An Experiment and Numerical Analysis of Mixed Convection in a Rectangular Space with Variable Partition)

  • The laminar convection heat transfer in a ventilated space with various horizontal partitions was studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental results by holographic interferometer showed good agreements with the numerical results. For the numerical study, the governing equations were solved by using a finite volume method for $46.6\leqRe\leq1332,\;1460\leqGr\leql1585$, Pr=0.71 and the variations of partition lengths. The isotherms and velocity vectors have been represented for various parameters. As the length of partition increases, the convection heat transfer decreases. Based on the numerical data, a correlation was obtained for the dimensionless mean Nusselt number in terms of $Gr/Re^2$. In the region of $Gr/Re^2$<1, the mean Nusselt number was very small, but in the region of $Gr/Re^2\geq1$, the mean Nusselt number was constant.

색상기반 주목연산자를 이용한 정규화된 얼굴요소영역 추출 (Normalized Region Extraction of Facial Features by Using Hue-Based Attention Operator)

  • 색상(hue) 기반 주목연산자와 조합누적투영함수(combinational integral projection function: CIPF)를 제안하여 조명변화에 강건하게 정규화된 얼굴요소영역을 추출하였다. 살색 필터를 도입하여 얼굴후보영역들을 추출하고, 거기에 색상과 대칭성에 기반한 주목연산자를 적용하여 조명변화에 강건하게 두 눈의 위치를 정확히 검출할 수 있도록 하였으며, 색상기반 눈 분산 필터로 눈을 검증하여 얼굴영역을 확인하였다. 또한, 색상과 밝기 성분을 조합한 조합누적투영함수를 사용하여 두 눈의 위치를 기준으로 조명변화나 수염의 존재유무에 둔감하게 눈썹 및 입의 수직위치를 구하고, 이를 바탕으로 정규화된 얼굴영역 및 그 요소영역을 추출하였다. AR 얼굴 데이터베이스[8]에 제안한 색상기반 주목연산자를 적용한 결과 기존 명도기반 주목연산자에 비해 약 39.3%의 눈 검출 성능향상을 보임으로써 조명방향 변화에 강건하게 정규화된 얼굴 및 그 요소영역을 일관성 있게 추출할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
