The object of this paper is to predict the surface roughness using the experiment equation of surface roughness, which is developed with a full factorial design in turning. $3^3$ full factorial design has been used to study main and interaction effects of main cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, on surface roughness. For prediction of surface roughness, the arithmetic average (Ra) is used, and stepwise regression has been used to check the significance of all effects of cutting parameters. Using the result of these, the experimental equation of surface roughness, which consists of significant effects of cutting parameters, has been developed. The coefficient of determination of this equation is 0.9908. And the prediction ability of this equation was verified by additional experiments. The result of that, the coefficient of determination is 0.9718.

An efficient sequential optimization approach for metamodel was presented by Choi et al. This paper describes a new approach of the multilevel optimization method studied in Refs. [2] and [20,21]. The basic idea is concerned with multilevel iterative methods which combine a descent scheme with a hierarchy of auxiliary problems in lower dimensional subspaces. After fitting a metamodel based on an initial space filling design, this model is sequentially refined by the expected improvement criterion. The advantages of the method are that it does not require optimum sensitivities, nonlinear equality constraints are not needed, and the method is relatively easy to understand and use. As a check on effectiveness, the proposed method is applied to an engineering example.
Let X, $X_1$, $X_2$, ... be i.i.d. random variables with zero means, variance one, and set $S_n\;=\;{\sum}^n_{i=1}\;X_i$, $n\;{\geq}\;1$. Gut and $Sp{\check{a}}taru$ [3] established the precise asymptotics in the law of the iterated logarithm and Li, Nguyen and Rosalsky [7] generalized their result under minimal conditions. If P($|S_n|\;{\geq}\;{\varepsilon}{\sqrt{2n\;{\log}\;{\log}\;n}}$) is replaced by E{$|S_n|/{\sqrt{n}}-{\varepsilon}{\sqrt{2\;{\log}\;{\log}\;n}$}+ in their results, the new one is called the moment version of precise asymptotics in the law of the iterated logarithm. We establish such a result for self-normalized sums, when X belongs to the domain of attraction of the normal law.
The fluctuation of VLBI visibility phase can be occurred, predominantly caused by the irregular distribution and motion of water vapor in the atmosphere at high frequencies (>1GHz). This radio-seeing effect shows up on filled-aperture telescopes as an anomalous refraction (AR). This can be shown as if the antenna pointing-offset increases, in other words the apparent displacement of radio sources from its nominal position happens. We carried out the single-dish observations on KVN sites in order to check the effect of AR from 2010 to 2014. Orion KL, U Her, and R Leo were observed with 1second sampling time at 22.235GHz and 43.122GHz simultaneously. Each source was observed with the tracking mode for 30 minutes per a source. We analyzed the structure function, power spectrum and Allan variance of the data according to a day and a night, a season and observatories. Finally, we can infer that the AR effect depends on the atmospheric environment, especially tropospheric turbulence.
In this paper, the effectiveness and accuracy of using the direct estimation method were investigated in determining a worker's lifting capacity or the maximum acceptable weight of lifting (MAWOL) of symmetrical fifting tasks in the workplace were investigated. Six lifting tasks involving two vertical fifting start-end points (0-80cm, 47-102cm) and three lifting frequencies (1, 2, and 4 lifts/minute) were studied. Ten young, male subjects performed the six lifting tasks to predict the MAWOL using the psychophysical method and the direct estimation method. The main results indicated that there were no significant differences between the MAWOLs determined by the two methods except for the lifting frequency of 4 lifts/minute. Analysis of variance was performed on the task rating data to check the consistency of the task rating across subjects, which revealed no significant difference.

The object of this paper is to evaluate the chip breakability using the experimental equation of surface roughness, which is developed in turning by an orthogonal array method. L$\sub$9/(3$^4$) orthogonal array method, one of fractional factorial design has been used to study effects of main cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut, on the surface roughness. The evaluation of chip breakability is used the chip breaking index(C$\sub$B/), non-dimensional parameter. And the analysis of variance (ANOYA)-test has been used to check the significance of cutting parameters. Using the result of ANOYA-test, the experimental equation of chip breakability, which consists of significant cutting parameters, has been developed. The coefficient of determination of this equation is 0.866.

We Propose an improved shovel design to minimize physical discomfort and the risk of cumulative trauma disorder at shoveling tasks. The specifications of shovels in Korean standard data were scrutinized to check if they met the anthropometric specification of Korean population in 1997. We also applied "Body Map" pictograph and self-conscious checklist to field survey to analyze the discomfort of shoveling task. Thirty male subjects whose age were ranging from 18 to 65 voluntarily participated in the experiment. The measurement results show that shoveling workers were exposed to hazards of CTD's. Especially, when workers were involved in ditch digging and construction their trunk vend more than 120 degree. In order to compare the new designed shovel and the traditional K.S shovel, an analysis of variance was performed and we obtained very strong evidence that the new designed shovel was better in reducing physical discomfort. According to the results from electromyograrn experiment the new shovel contributed to improving subjective comfort level and reducing low back muscle fatigue. For futher study, the research may be extended to determine the relationship among shovel sharpness, type, digging motion and digging force.ing force.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an auxiliary safety system for recognizing the condition of tires based on the pressure and temperature data transmitted from the sensor unit installed on a tire of the vehicle. Using TPMS, a driver can frequently check the state of tires and it aids to maintain the optimum running condition of the vehicle. Since TPMS must utilize the wireless communication technique to transmit data from a sensor unit to a signal processing unit installed in the vehicle, it suffers from interference signals caused by various external electrical or electronic devices. In order to suppress high-power interference signals, we employ beamforming techniques based on the uniform linear antenna array. As the number of the antennas is increased, the performance of the interference suppression is improved. However, there is the limit of the number of antennas, installed in the center of a vehicle, because of its size. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of the beamformer, when reducing the interelement spacing of antennas, to increase the number of the receiving antennas. For the performance analysis of the beamformers, we consider the switching beamformer and minimum-variance distortionless-response (MVDR) beamformer for TPMS, recently proposed.
The sensory characteristics of nine rice-based distilled soju were determined using check-all-that-apply (CATA) profiling. A total of 53 consumers evaluated the soju for two appearance attributes, nine aroma attributes, nine flavor/taste attributes, four mouth-feel related sensory attributes, and overall desirability. The total sum of CATA terms indicated that 14 characteristics showed frequency differences of over 10 and that there were significant differences among nine samples for eleven sensory attributes as determined using Cochran's q test (p<0.05). Based on correspondence analysis of CATA data, the samples were primarily separated by the first dimension, which accounted for 89% of the total variance among samples. The "brown color," "fruit taste," and "grain aroma" characteristics had higher frequencies than those for the "white color," "acetone aroma," and 'alcohol taste" characteristics. Overall, there was a higher preference for oak-aged samples than for samples aged in other containers. "sweet aroma', 'fruit aroma," and "sweet taste" seemed to positively affect consumer preferences, while "bitter taste," "alcohol taste," and "acetone aroma" appeared to negatively affect consumer preferences as determined by principal coordinate analysis.
In this paper, we examine a portfolio selection model in which a safety-first investor maximizes expected return subject to a downside risk constraint. We use the Value-at-Risk as the downside risk measure. We exploit the fact that returns are fat-tailed, and use a semi-parametric method suggested by Jansen, Koedijk and de Vries(2000). We find a more realistic asset allocation than the one suggested by the literature based on the traditional mean-variance framework. For the robustness check, we provide empirical analyses using empirical quantiles. The results highlight that for optimal portfolio selection involving downside risks that are far in the tails of the distribution, our mean-VaR model with a fat-tailed distribution is superior.
