Fabrication and electrochemical characterization of amorphous vanadium oxide thin films for thin film micro-battery by reactive r.f. sputtering (반응성 r.f. 스퍼터링에 의한 마이크로 박막 전지용 산화바나듐 박막의 제작 및 전기화학적 특성 평가)

  • The amorphous vanadium oxide thin films for thin-film rechargeable lithium batteries were fabricated by r.f. reactive sputtering at room temperature. As the experimental parameter, oxygen partial pressure was varied during sputtering. At high oxygen partial pressures(>30%), the as-deposited films, constant current charge/discharge characteristics were carried out in 1M $LiPF_6$, EC:DMC+1:1 liquid electrolyte using lithium metal as anode. The specific capacity of amorphous $V_2O_5$ after 200cycles of operation at room temperature was higher compared to crystalline $V_2O_5$. The amorphous vanadium oxide thin film and crystalline film showed about 60$\mu$Ah/$\textrm{cm}^2\mu\textrm{m}$ and about 38$\mu$Ah/$\textrm{cm}^2\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively. These results suggest that the battery capacity of the thin film vanadium oxide cathode strongly depends on the crystallinity.

  • Toward the practical applications, on operation of conduction-cooled HTS SMES at temperatures well below 77 K should be investigated, in order to take advantage of a greater critical current density of HTS and considerably reduce the size and weight of the system. Recently, research and development concerning application of the conduction-cooled HTS SMES that is easily movement are actively progressing in Korea. Electrical insulation under cryogenic temperature is a key and an important element in the application of this apparatus. However, the behaviors of insulators for cryogenic conditions in air or vacuum are virtually unknown. Therefore, this work focuses on the breakdown and flashover phenomenology of dielectrics exposed in vacuum for temperatures ranging from room temperature to cryogenic temperature. Firstly, we summary the insulation factors of the magnet for HTS SMES. And a surface flashover as well as volume breakdown in air and vacuum has been investigated with two kind insulators. Finally, we will discuss applications for the HTS SMES including aging studies on model coils exposed in vacuum at cryogenic temperature.

Properties of MFSEET′s with various gate electrodes using $LiNbO_3$ ferroelectric thin film ($LiNbO_3$강유전체 박막을 이용한 MFSFET's의 게이트 전극 변화에 따른 특성)

  • Metal/ferroelectric/semiconductor field effect transistors(MFSFET′s) with various gate electrodes, that are aluminum, platinum and poly-Si, using rapid thermal annealed $LiNbO_3$/Si(100) structures were fabricated and the properties of the FET′s have been discussed. The drain current of the "on" state of FET with Pt electrode was more than 3 orders of magnitude larger than the "off" state current at the same "read" gate voltage of 1.5 V, which means the memory operation of the MFSFET. A write voltage as low as about $\pm$4 V, which is applicable to low power integrated circuits, was used for polarization reversal. The retention properties of the FET using Al electrode were quite good up to about $10^3$ s and using Pt electrode remained almost the same value of its initial value over 2 days at room temperature.

  • Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research(KSTAR) device is composed of 30 superconducting magnets, magnet structure, vacuum vessel, cryostat, current feeder system, and etc. KSTAR device is operated in the cryogenic temperature and high magnetic field. We install about 800 sensors - temperature sensors, stain gages, displacement gages, hall sensors - to monitor the thermal, mechanical, electrical status of KSTAR during operation. As a tremendous numbers of sensors should be installed for monitoring the KSTAR device, the method of effective installation was developed. The sensor test was successfully carried out to check its reliability and its reproduction in the cryogenic temperature. The sensor signal is processed by PXI-based DAQ system and communicated with central control system via machine network and is shown by Operator Interface(OPI) display in the main control room. In order to safely operate the device, any violations of mechanical & superconductive characteristic of the device components were informed to its operation system & operator. If the monitored values exceed the pre-set values, the protective action should be taken against the possible damage. In this paper, the system composition, operation criteria, operation result were presented.

A Development of Home Mess-Cleanup Robot with Entertainment Function

  • The vacuum-cleaner had made the burden of house chore lighten but the operation labour of a vacuum-cleaner had been so severe. Recently, the cleaning robot was producted to perfectly solve the cleaning labour of a house but it also was not successful because it still had a problem of mess-cleaning, which is the clean-up of big trash and the arrangement of newspapers, clothes, etc. The cleaning robot is to just vacuum dust and small trash and has no function to arrange and take away before the automatic vacuum-cleaning. For this reason, the market for the cleaning robot is not yet built up. So, we need a design method and technological algorithm of new automatic machine to solve the problem of mess-cleanup in house. In this paper, a Home Mess-Cleanup Robot(HMR), which has a practical function of the automatic mess-cleanup, is developed. It need functions of agile automatic navigation, novel manipulation system for mess-cleanup. The automatic navigation system has to be controlled for the full scanning of living room, to recognize the absolute position and orientation of the self, the precise tracking of the desired path, and to distinguish the mess object to clean-up from obstacle object to just avoid. The manipulation system, which is not needed in the vacuum-cleaning robot, must have the functions, how to distinguish big trash to clean from mess objects to arrange, how to grasp in according to the form of mess objects, how to move to the destination in according to mess objects and arrange them. Then, it should be an intelligent system so that the mess cleaning task can be autonomously performed in a wide variety of situations and environments. It need to also has the entertainment functions for the good communication between the human and HMR. Therefore, the Home Mess-cleanup Robot with Entertainmental Human Interface is developed in this paper. Finally, the good performance of the designed machine, HMR'4, is confirmed through the results of the mess clean-up and arrangement.

In order to take advantage of a greater critical current density of high temperature superconducting (HTS) and considerably reduce the size and weight of the system, conduction-cooled HTS superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) at temperatures well below 40[K] should be investigated. This work focuses on the breakdown and flashover phenomenology of dielectrics exposed in air and/or vacuum for temperatures ranging from room temperature to cryogenic temperature. Firstly, we summarize the insulation factors of the magnet for the conduction cooled HTS SMES. And Secondly a surface flashover as well as volume breakdown in air and/or vacuum with two kind insulators has been investigated. Finally, we will discuss applications for the HTS SMES including aging studies on model coils exposed in vacuum at cryogenic temperature. The commercial application of many conduction-cooled HTS magnets, however, requires refrigeration at temperatures below 40[K], in order to take advantage of a greater critical current density of HTS and reduce considerably the size and weight of the system. The magnet is driven in vacuum condition. The need to reduce the size and weight of the system has led to the consideration of the vacuum as insulating media. We are studying on the insulation factors of the magnet for HTS SMES. And we experiment the spacer configure effect in the dielectric flashover characteristics. From the results, we confirm that our research established basic information in the insulation design of the magnet.

A Study on Implementation of Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot (유비쿼터스 홈 메스클린업 로봇의 구현에 관한 연구)

Finally, the good performance of the designed UHMR is confirmed through the results of the mess clean-up and arrangement.

Implementation of EPICS based control system for KSTAR Current Lead System (KSTAR 전류전송제어시스템의 원격운전을 위한 EPICS 기반 제어계 구축)

  • The KSTAR Current Lead System(CLS) with network based real-time distributed control system is implemented using an EPICS as a middle-ware software. The current lead system transfers current from magnet power supplies to superconducting magnet system and simultaneously supply the coolant to maintain superconducting state. To control the CLS at main control room an EPICS IOC server is installed in local control area. Using this server, it is able to be controlled and monitored the system in main control room through operator interface(OPI) which uses "caget" to read status and "caput" to write command with a unique name called PV. The EPICS IOC is developed using "ether-ip" driver to communicate with PLC. Also we achieved satisfactory results in operation and stability aspects from a long period commissioning test.

NH3 sensing properties of porous CuBr films prepared by spin-coating (스핀 코팅법으로 제작한 다공성 CuBr 필름의 암모니아 감응특성)

  • Porous copper bromide (CuBr) films are highly advantageous for detecting ammonia (NH3). The fabrication of porous CuBr films requires complex high-temperature processes or multistep processes. Herein, we report the uncomplicated preparation of porous CuBr films by a spin-coating method and the films' excellent NH3 sensing properties. The porous films were prepared by spin-coating 100, 150, and 200 mM CuBr solutions, and then dried in a vacuum oven for 2 h. All the films showed a high NH3 response; in particular, the film prepared using a 100 mM CuBr solution showed an extremely high response (resistance ratio = 852) to 5 ppm NH3. The film also showed fast response and recovery times, 272 s and 10 s respectively, even at room temperature. The outstanding NH3 sensing characteristics were explained in relation to the porosity and thickness of the prepared films. The high-performance NH3 sensors used in this study can be used for both indoor air quality and environmental monitoring applications.
