We obtained the UV cut-off effect of tinted CR-39 Ophthalmic lens with the respect of concentration of green, brown, blue color. First, we analyzed the UV spectrum of tinted CR-39 lens measured by Spectrophotometer and then compared the UV data by Spectrophotometer with UV data by UV tester used in an optician shop. The result obtained show that the UV cut-off effect is increased with color concentration of tinted CR-39 lens, and the transmittance of 0%~5% at 400nm by Spectrophotometer is correspondence with transmittance of 0% by UV tester.
Analyses of UV-Vis spectrum and reflectance are useful tools to identify pearls of which color was naturally made or chemically changed. Contents of some trace elements of pearls by using ED-XRF may give us the information that the pearls were originated from marine shells or freshwater shells, and may give us whether the pearls were chemically treated or not. Three types of chemically untreated pearls, freshwater cultured, Akoya cultured and Tahitian cultured, were treated with silver nitrate. UV-Vis absorbance spectrum of Ag was changed after treatment, and reflectance of pearls was decreased. Absorbance of natural black colored Tahitian cultured pearls at 400, 500 and 700 nm was observed. Natural black colored freshwater cultured pearls showed two characteristic absorption patterns in UV-Vis spectra at 380-400, 480-500 nm. Unlike naturally black colored Tahitian cultured pearls, the absorption spectrum at 700 nm could not be found from black freshwater cultured pearls. Manganese was not detected in the pearls from marine shells, and strontium content of the pearls from marine cultured shells was higher than that from freshwater cultured shells. According to ED-XRF analysis, Ag contents of silver nitrate treated pearls increased as more time passed, because silver ion invaded to nacre layer of the pearls. Since Ag content of the black pearls known as untreated ranged under 0.1%, analysis of Ag content may used to distinguish the black pearls are treated or not in marketplace.

In this study, a series of $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals with different [Li]/[Nb] ratios, congruent $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals with doped Mg and with Mg and codoped with Mn were grown by the Czocharalski method. These were investigated by UV and IR spectrophotometry. Stoichiometry dependences of the UV absorption edge and the $OH^{-}$ absorption spectra were studied with different [Li]/[Nb] ratios. The position of the UV absorption edge adn the shape and peak point of the $OH^{-}$ absorption spectra changed monotonously upto a critical concentration of Mg ions. The mechanism of the incorporation of Mg ions changes at this concentration. The decomposition of the $OH^{-}$ absorption spectra using a Gaussian lineshape function showed that in Li-deficient crystals the absorption spectra consist of five components in contrast to more or less perfect stoichiometric crystals which reveal to three components. On the basis of these results, the intrinsic and the extrinsic defect structure models in $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals were examined. The behaviour of $\nu$ (OH) reflects the defect structure and supports the Li-site vacancy model as the intrinsic defect structure model and the corresponding extrinsic defect model. A brief discussion is also given of the behaviour of $\nu$ (OH) in $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals simultaneously doped with several kinds of impurity.

In the area of speech vocoder systems, the MBE vocoder allows the high quality and low bit rate. In the MBE parameters detection, the dicision methods of V/UV region proposed until now are dependent highly to the other parameters, fundamental frequency and formant information. In this paper, thus, we propose a new V/UV detection method that uses a zero-crossing rate of flatten harmonices spectrum. This method can reduce the influences of the other parameters for the V/UV regions detection.
This study examined non-destructive UV-Vis spectrophotometry as well as 3-D fluorescence spectrophotometry of textile that made use of red dye such as Sappan wood, madder, Safflower, Gromwell. The authors produced two textile specimen that were dyed by not only two kinds of textile (cotton and silk) but also three kinds of mordanting (no-mordanting, alumen and iron), and they investigated effects of each dye material upon investigation results. At analysis with UV-Vis spectrophotometry of dyed textile specimen, dyeing made by sappan wood, madder and gromwell had significant difference depending upon mardant regardless of kinds of textile, and safflower had no significant difference depending upon textile and mordant. At analysis with 3D-fluorescence spectrophotometry, specimen dyed with sappan wood had difference with mordants, and with madder, there were difference with textiles, and safflower had inherent fluorescence spectrum regardless of textiles and mordants, while gromwell had no fluorescence spectrum.
Most waveform coding techniques attempt to reduce redundancy of speech signal while preserving the shape of the waveform. In speech synthesis, wavefrom coding methods are used to the synthesis by rule for high quality speech. However, it is difficult to apply the waveform coding to the synthesis by rule because the parameters of the wavefrom coding cannot be classified as either the excitation or the vocal tract parameters. The proposed method shows little spectrum distortion of 2.7% or less for 50% pitch changes. It also achieves smooth connection of wavefrom magnitudes among the frames by compensating the phase in time domain.
Fourier Transform UV/VIS spectrometer has been modified for emission spectroscopy with the technique of supersonic expansion, in which the unstable molecular radical $CH_3S$ has been generated in a jet by a high voltage DC discharge. The fluorescence spectra of the supersonically cooled radical have been recorded on a Fourier Transform UV/VIS spectrometer. The ratio of signal to noise of the spectra has been improved substantially. Also the rotational structure has been clearly resolved for $CH_3S$ molecular radical.
Silk fibroin is a structural protein from Bombyx mori and can be sulfated to provide biofunctional polypeptides showing antiviral and anticoagulating activities. However, the sulfated fibroins have not been characterized enough to present their compositions and structures. In this report, sulfation reaction was investigated by varying the reaction temperature and sulfuric acid concentration and analysis of the resulting peptides were carried out. The degree of sulfation was proportion to sulfuric acid concentration but the maximum product yield was obtained at $60^{\circ}C$ and 5% of sulfuric acid concentration. FT-IR spectrum, UV absorption and NMR spectrum support that o-sulfate ester was formed at the hydroxyl group of serine and tyrosine residues. Size exclusion chromatography identified that sulfated fibroin was composed of a highly hydrolyzed polypeptide mixtures and peptides of relatively higher molecular weight.
Pravastatin sodium, competitive inhibitors of HMG-CoA(3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A) reductase, is produced from the culture broth of Streptomyces carbophilus KCCM 10370, The production of Pravastatin sodium was increased about 45 fold compared to wild type by UV mutation. Production of Pravastatin was also improved by continuous feeding of Compactin sodium to 24% and bioconversion ratio was also increased to 4.3% by intermittent addition. In main culture, concentration of Compactin sodium was kept less than 0.1%(w/v) under continuous feeding of Compactin sodium then product was 0.49% and bioconversion was 70%. After finishing the fermentation, Pravastatin was purified by various chromatographies such as Diaion HP20 resin column, Partition, and ODS(Octa-Decylsilyl Silicagel) resin column with a final yield of 70~72% and over 99.7% purity. The IR, UV, and NMR study of the purified Pravastatin sodium showed the same pattern as that of EP(European Pharmacopoeia).
Spectroscopic studies of trans-1,2-bispyrazylethylene (BPE), one of the stilbene analogues, were carried out. In normal UV spectra, a distinct $n{\rightarrow}{\pi}^*$ absorption band is missing because of a strong, nearly isoenergetic ${\pi}{\rightarrow}{\pi}^*$ absorption band. The second derivative and low temperature $(77^{\circ}K)$ UV absorption spectra were taken and $n{\rightarrow}{\pi}^*$ absorption band was identified by these methods. The transition energies of ${\pi}{\rightarrow}{\pi}^*$ transitions were calculated by Pariser-Parr-Pople (PPP)-SCF-CI MO method. The calculated values showed good agreement with the observed spectral data. Luminescence studies were also carried out at low temperature. From the fluorescence spectra, fluorescence polarization studies, and PPP-SCF-CI MO calculation, the fluorescent state was determined to be a singlet $({\pi},\;{\pi}^*)$ state. This conclusion is in good agreement with the results obtained from alkaline salt effects on the fluorescence of this compound.
