  • Automatic control systems(AVR, Governor, Synchronizer) installed $1970{\sim}1980$ in K-water were considered to be rehabilitated around 2000. Moreover, Korea Power Exchange market system was changed from PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) to a bidding system. Therefore, depending on the power quality, the power provider could achieve additional profits. It is the excitation system and governor that have the functions of enhancing power necessities. During the 20 to 30 years of generator operation, there were many major and minor problems. Examples are SCR burnout (Andong: Excitation system), hunting (Imha: governor), field circuit breaker failure (Chungju 1st: excitation system), the rise of leakage current (Chungju 2nd: excitation system), power supply burnout (Chungju 2nd: governor). These are the typical examples of malfunction which hindered the generator operation and, consequently, diminished the profit of power business. In order to satisfy the needs of the power market and prevent malfunctions mentioned above, the rehabilitation of AVRs and governors were executed. A new system was made to have the flexibility of ancillary service (GF, AGC, etc.), PSS function. With user friendly HMI software, it is more convenient for the operator to fulfill suitable maintenance. It was possible to connect SCADA system by opening protocol of AVR, governor for the efficiency of operation and maintenance.

  • Technology standards have gained importance as global market becomes more competitive. Since a technology acknowledged as a standard brings significant benefits to the developer firm, firms in the IT industry tend to pursue standardization for the technology, being it proprietary or open. However, the paths or strategic implications are seldom discussed in academia. Therefore, our study uses iPhone of Apple, one of the proprietary standards successes, to further understand corporate strategies over two standard choices. Our case study suggests that iPhone's entry timing was optimal for creating a new mobile environment. Design excellence and user-friendly interface increased networking effects and switching costs among consumers. Apple developed independent mobile operating system (iOS) through improvement on the existing operating system. During the process, Apple chose proprietary standard and, by installing the same UX on its sibling products such as iPod Touch or iPad, overcame the subsequent problems that might arise from the limited use of iOS. Based on the capability of concurrently developing both hardware and software, Apple connected operating system, machine, and contents, which deems to contribute to its proprietary standards success. We argue that this strategy should be considered for firms which plan proprietary standard strategy.

  • The lack of safety of bridge deck structures causes frequent repair and strengthening of such structures. The repair induces great loss of economy, not only due to direct cost by repair, but also due to stopping the public use of such structures during repair. The major reason for this frequent repair is mainly due to the lack of realistic and accurate assessment system for the bridge decks. The purpose of the present research was to develop a realistic expert system, called Bridge Slab-Expert which can evaluate reasonably the condition as well as the service life of concrete bridge decks, based on the deterioration models that are derived from both the structural and environmental effects. The diagnosis assessment of deck slabs due to structural and environmental effects are developed based on the cracking in concrete, surface distress and structural distress. Fuzzy logic is utilized to handle uncertainties and imprecision involved. Finally, Bridge Slab-Expert is developed for prediction of safety and remaining service life based on the chloride ions penetration and fick's second law. Proposed expert system is based on user-friendly GUI environment. The developed expert system will allow the correct diagnosis of concrete decks, realistic prediction of service life, the determination of confidence level, the description of condition and the proposed action for repair.

  • Communication with others plays an important role in human social interaction and information exchange in modern society. However, some individuals have difficulty in communicating due to dysarthria. Therefore, it is necessary to develop effective diagnostic techniques for early treatment of the dysarthria. In the present study, we propose a mobile device-based methodology that enables to automatically classify dysarthria type. The light-weight CNN model was trained by using the open audio dataset of Korean patients with dysarthria. The trained CNN model can successfully classify dysarthria into related subtype disease with 78.8%~96.6% accuracy. In addition, the user-friendly mobile application was also developed based on the trained CNN model. Users can easily record their voices according to the selected inspection type (e.g. word, sentence, paragraph, and semi-free speech) and evaluate the recorded voice data through their mobile device and the developed mobile application. This proposed technique would be helpful for personal management of dysarthria and decision making in clinic.
