  • In the research of HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), we always use the GUI(graphical user interface) of graphics input devices until we invent TUI (tangible user interface) which is used to control the computer by hand-touching or other subjects. In this study, we investigate and classify several TUI for the most part in business with the theory and concept of Tangible Bits by Hiroshi Ishii & Brygg Ullmer in order to research the development of TUI.

온라인 서어비스의 이용자 접속 디자인 (User Interface Design in Online Services)

  • The study is to assist system developers or designers who are participated in the design of the user-computer interface on online services such as Online Public Access Catalogue and Online Search-ins. To design the optimal user interface, system developers and designers should try to complete the following process orderly: 1) they should know and understand the active and potential user's information seeking behaviors concerning online services in details as possible. 2) they should design the conceptional user model on basis of that knowledge. 3)They should design the logical and hierachical computer model adaptable to the current environment. 4) they should design the display of the computer terminal which is ease to learn and use by the users. 5) finally, they should design the optimal and practical user inter-face on basis of the above 2, 3, and 4.

  • Recently released digital devices have various characteristics such as different screen sizes or different sensors embedded, according to the purpose of their use. So the device types are fragmented and the software should be independently developed for each devices with different characteristics. RRUI are being developed and standardized in progress to provide UI using user information and context information, as one way of solving the device fragmentation. In this paper, we take a look at various standards that classify and utilize user information and context information for RRUI and try to find correlations between MPEG-UD and RRUI.

  • Many office tasks have been automated by using computers to increase task productivity. The productivity of performing office tasks is dependent not only upon automating the task procedures, but also upon the usability of user interfaces. However, the literature lacks human factors research on evaluating the usability of user interface styles when they are used for performing different office tasks. This study evalu- ated the usability of user interfaces styles when performing various office tasks. User interface styles considered include menu-selection, command language, form fill-in, iconic styles, etc. A task analysis was conducted toclassify representative office tasks. A variety of analysis techniques such as brainstorming, analytic hierarchy process, prototyping, and expert opinions were used to evaluate the usability of the interfaces. The analysis procedures and results are described along with guidelines for selecting user interfaces in terms of subjective preferences and performance measures.

Controlling Position of Virtual Reality Contents with Mouth-Wind and Acceleration Sensor

  • In this paper, we propose a new framework to control VR(Virtual reality) contents in real time using user's mouth-wind and acceleration sensor of mobile device. In VR, user interaction technology is important, but various user interface methods is still lacking. Most of the interaction technologies are hand touch screen touch or motion recognition. We propose a new interface technology that can interact with VR contents in real time using user's mouth-wind method with acceleration sensor. The direction of the mouth-wind is determined using the angle and position between the user and the mobile device, and the control position is adjusted using the acceleration sensor of the mobile device. Noise included in the size of the mouth wind is refined using a simple average filter. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed technology, we show the result of interacting with contents in game and simulation in real time by applying control position and mouth-wind external force to the game.

  • 2006년 본 방송을 시작한 지상파 DMB 방송은 기존의 방송과 달리 하나의 물리 채널에 다양한 비디오와 오디오 서비스가 복합적이고 비 순차적인 형태로 제공되기 때문에 기존의 TV, Radio와 같은 기기 중심의 단순한 user interface 의 사용으로는 시청취에 제약이 발생한다. 따라서 비디오와 오디오, 오디오와 데이터, 비디오와 데이터와 같이 멀티 미디어 방송을 이동 중 시청취할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 user interface에 대한 개발이 필요하다. DMB 방송의 Information architecture 설계를 위한 기본적인 방송 관련 정보를 정의하였고, DMB 방송의 특징이라 할 수 있는 video service에 대한 고찰을 통해 DMB 방송 관련 기본 정보를 고찰하였다. 또한 방송 시청과 관련된 태스크 중심의 시나리오 개발을 통해 기능을 도출하고, 사용자들의 DMB 방송의 예상 시청 행태에 대한 조사 결과를 참조하여 필수적인 기능 중심으로 사용하기 쉽고, 기존 방송과 동일한 다양한 사용자를 고려하여 직관적인 인터페이스와 인터랙션을 제공하도록 설계하였다. 세부 UI 설계 단계에서는 기기 특성에 의한 제약 사항을 확인하고 방송구조의 시각화 대안 탐구 및 신호 해석에 의한 지연에 대한 민감도를 조사하고 방송 시청을 위한 화면 설계 및 네비게이션 방법을 설계하였다.

  • This paper is about vision system that exhibits automatic examination of the conditions of shaft's worm. The system is composed of three part : image acquisition, vision algorithm, and user interface. The image acquisition part is composed of motor control, illumination and optics. The vision algorithm examines the parts by labeling algorithm using shaft image. User interface is divided into two parts, user interface for feature registering with control value settings and user interface for examination operation. The automatic inspection system of this research is a tool for final examination of shaft worm. This tool can be practically used in production lines with simple adjustments.
