A Study on the Power and Smoke Characteristics for the Intake System Improvement using Air Conditioning System in a Diesel Vehicle (디젤 자동차의 에어컨 사용시 흡기계통 개선에 따른 출력 및 매연 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the symptoms of the a reduction in output while driving on the road, or increasing of fumer out exhaust gas on inclined road while working air-conditioner in summer. Notice how the experiment in 2010, the Ministry of Environment(Chapter No. 2010-46), and how the vehicle emissions inspection was carried out. 2500cc Diesel cars used in the study were used and compare to output of engine, exhaust gas, inhalation temperature measurement Inhalation of cold air has not been supplied to all agencies when comparing the results when cold air intake temperature of the supply air-conditioning switch range control from 1 to 4, the temperature drops $98^{\circ}C$ to $78^{\circ}C$. At the momentum of switch level 4, output from 63ps to 66ps after the connection has increased 9.6 percent, the highest concentration of exhaust emissions were reduced by 42.8%. This research can contribute in part to the reduction of exhaust directly supply into the cooling air intake line, doing the output of diesel cars in the summer. In addition, construction equipment and machinery that are currently being used excluding the engine's intercooler cooling of the supply line via a separate output in the summer and help reduce exhaust emissions is expected.

  • Recently it is a tendency that Diesel rolling stock is committing in the commuter's train route of the suburb for solving commuting traffic congestion. It has advantage which expense of diesel rolling stock is relatively cheaper than electric rail car or high-speed train. In addition, it can be using the exist route without large-scale facility investment. Because of this advantage, the demand of diesel rolling stock occupy regular portion from overseas railway car market. GM/RT 2100 specifies the loads vehicle bodies shall be capable of withstanding, identifies how material data shall be used and presents the principles to be used for design verification by analysis. Therefore, in order to fulfill the structural requirements, Rotem Company has carried out Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to verify whether the carbody structure has enough strength to withstand the loads specified by GM/RT 2100.   • Recently, The air pollution problems become hot issues as the production of the diesel automotive increases. The ministry of environment has enforced a precise inspection law to decrease the vehicle emission. In this circumstances, the smoke measurement is somewhat complicated by the use of the different type smoke meters. Although the paper filtration type opacimeter has been used for measuring smoke widely but currently the light extinction type is being used for precise inspection law. These two type opacimeters are different in their measuring principles on each other. So, for the time being the regulation standards can be confused by these two type opacimeters. In this article, The correlation factor between these two type opacimeters is studied by using engine dynamometer and vehicle test. The result of the dynamometer test shows the light extinction type is more sensitive than the filtration type by 1.47 times. But the relation factor by the vehicle test achieved 1.37 value, which is lower than that of the dynamometer test. In the future study the more precise research is needed to estimate the relation factor on vehicle test.

  • Natural gas is considered to be on e of the most promising candidates for a clean substitute fuel and a great amount of research on the compressed natural gas(CNG) fueled vehicle has been performed. In this s tudy, we try to understand the property of CNG fuel with using CNG engine experiment. In order to present the direction and application of CNG, we experiment with various operating conditions that is, spark timing, A/F ratio, air quantity and fuel quantity, etc. 11,967 cc engine was used in the experiment and the engine fuel ratio was determined in the way that the performance of dedicated CNG engine is corresponded to that of existing diesel engine. The performance and dedicated CNG engine were measured by changing the fuel injection timing. The dedicated CNG engine was proved to be good in describing the experimental results and according to the actual road test, acceleration and constant speed driving for dedicated CNG engine was better than existing diesel engine.

  • The purpose of this paper is to determine the fuel change and weight change impact on the fuel economy and emission characteristic of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle. According to fuel type, fuel consumption and emission characteristics were measured and fuel used in this paper was gasoline, diesel, and LPG. Four vehicles with different weight were tested and the fuel economy were compared and analyzed by using scatter graph. Test was carried out using chassis dynamometer, CVS (Constant Volume Sampler), and emission measurement system. Diesel vehicle less emited $CO_2$ compared to gasoline and LPG. Even if same $CO_2$ between gasoline and LPG, there are difference fuel economy depending on carbon proportion of specific fuel. The heavier weight of vehicle, the worse of fuel economy and Better fuel economy performance on highway driving mode.

  • The composition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was anlyzed for major emission sources such as vehicle exhaust, gasoline and diesel vapor, organic solvent vapor, and butane fuel gas. Low carbon-numbered hydrocarbons were found to be the dominant components of gasoline vehicle exhaust. In gasoline evaporative vapor, the predominant constituents were found to be butane and iso-pentane regardless of ambient air temperature. In case of diesel evaporative vapor was similar to those of gasoline evaporative vapor. The composition of organic solvent vapor from painting, ink and petroleum consisted mostly or aromatic compounds such as toluene and m, p, o-xylene. The hydrocarbon fraction of butane fuel gas. which is used by portable bunner, consisted mainly of propane (34%) and butane(70%).

  • The regulations for exhaust emission from vehicles have become much more stringent in recent years. These more stringent regulations require vehicle manufacturers to develop alternative fuels that reduce exhaust emission. This research is to analyze the characteristics of exhaust gas emission of same level vehicles that use gasoline, diesel, and LPG fuels. As for the test mode, we used the CVS-75 mode, which is the driving mode of the current domestic and North American emissions. The characteristics of the exhaust gas emitted under this driving condition was studied. We examined the emissions of THC, CO, and NOx of vehicles that use gasoline, diesel, and LPG fuels. As a result, vehicle exhaust gas emissions increased 9.8 % for vehicles using gasoline and it decreased 12.2 % for diesel-powered vehicles compared to vehicles using LPG fuel. Using gasoline and LPG fuel in the CVS-mode, over 80 % of THC and CO emission was produced for the cold start Phase 1.

The Durability and Exhaust Emission Characteristics of an IDI Diesel Engine Using Biodiesel Fuel (바이오디젤유를 사용하는 간접분사식 디젤기관의 내구 및 배기 특성)

  • To evaluate the durability characteristics of in-direct injection diesel engine using BDF 20(a blend of 20% biodiesel fuel and 80% diesel fuel in volume), an IDI diesel engine used to commercial vehicle was operated on BDF 20 for 300 hours. Engine dynamometer testing was completed at regularly scheduled intervals to investigate the combustion characteristics, engine performance and exhaust emissions. The engine performance and exhaust emissions were sampled at 1 hour interval for analysis. From the results, the combustion variations such as the combustion maximum pressure($P_{max}$) and the crank angle at which this maximum pressure occurs(${\Theta}_{Pmax}$) were not appeared during long-time dynamometer testing. Also, BSFC with BDF 20 resulted in lower than with diesel fuel. The peak pressure with BDF 20 was higher than that with diesel fuel due to the oxygen content in BDF. And, BDF 20 resulted in lower emissions of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and smoke emissions with a little increase of oxides of nitrogen than diesel fuel. It was concluded that there was no unusual deterioration of the engine, or any unusual change in exhaust emissions during the durability test of an IDI diesel engine using BDF 20.

  • Since bio-diesel oil has a merit that it satisfies both demand of substitution for fossil fuel and reduction in carbon dioxide emission, it is widely used in diesel engines by blending in gas oil in small quantity. It is needed to reduce in NOx emission in some way or others if blending ratio of bio-diesel oil is going to increase, because it is demerit that bio-diesel oil emits more NOx emission than gas oil. In this study, it was accomplished to optimize 3 factors what effect on NOx emission as blending ratio of bio-diesel oil, injection timing and common rail pressure with an introduction of a design of experiments, in order to minimize a number of tests. It was cleared that to introduce the design of experiments was very available in NOx optimization.

A Comparative Study on the Measurement of Smoke from Diesel Vehicle on Chassis-dynamometer using Reflection Photo and Light Extinction Method (차대 동력계에서의 디젤 차량의 매연 측정을 위한 여지 반사식 및 광투과식 측정법의 비교 연구)

  • Diesel car's smoke measurement equipment and method were investigated based on the exhaust gas regulations. Reflection photo method and light extinction method for measuring smoke were compared under conditions of both no load mode and Lug-down 3 mode. Free acceleration mode at no load condition was used for regular inspection of diesel car, and Lug-down 3 mode was used for fine inspection of the diesel car. A correlation between no load mode and Lug-down 3 mode was investigated in this research. The smoke measured with reflection photo method was 1.5${\sim}$2 times higher than that of light extinction method The correlation coefficient between reflection photo method and light extinction method for measuring smoke was 0.83, which shows comparatively high correlation between the two methods for measuring smoke in diesel engines.
