  • This study empirically analyzed the effect of media literacy on the formation of the smart divide, which is a multi-faceted digital divide that occurs in the context of the use of smart devices. As a result, most of the factors of media literacy affect the establishment of social relations and social network through the use of smart devices, which, in turn, leads to the expansion of the range of informational and social activities. In addition, media literacy has a significant effect on the competence to evaluate the value of information acquired through the use of smart devices. Based on these results, there can be social disparity between those who have secured media literacy and those who do not from the perspective of informational and social benefits through the use of smart devices, which can function as a mechanism to generate the smart divide.

  • Smart devices have a variety of affordances to foster meaningful learning in elementary school. For the design of smart learning environments, more research is needed to understand students' smart device usage and their perception of learning with smart devices. In order to capture smart device usage profiles among elementary school students in South Korea, this study carried out Latent Profile Analysis with three constructs: information search, communication, and study. Participants (n=253), who ranged from the fourth to the sixth grade students, were classified into three profiles of smart device usage: low-activity, communication, and high-activity groups. The smart device usage profiles varied depending on smartphone usage experience, and the profiles were significantly related with smart device addiction, not with smart device usage ability. Perceptions of smart education were also significantly associated with the profiles. The high-activity group showed more positive attitudes toward smart education than the others, but no significant difference was found in regard to negative attitudes. Based on the findings, this study discussed implications for the use of smart devices in elementary school.

  • This paper presents that TD method is applied to the human adaptive devices for smart home with context awareness (or recognition) technique. For smart home, the very important problem is how the appliances (or devices) can adapt to user. Since there are many humans to manage home appliances (or devices), managing the appliances automatically is difficult. Moreover, making the users be satisfied by the automatically managed devices is much more difficult. In order to do so, we can use several methods, fuzzy controller, neural network, reinforcement learning, etc. Though the some methods could be used, in this case (in dynamic environment), reinforcement learning is appropriate. Among some reinforcement learning methods, we select the Temporal Difference learning method as a core algorithm for adapting the devices to user. Since this paper assumes the environment is a smart home, we simply explained about the context awareness. Also, we treated with the TD method briefly and implement an example by VC++. Thereafter, we dealt with how the devices can be applied to this problem.

  • Logging is an important part of any secure computer system. By analyzing logs in computer systems, you can identify early various problems and detect intrusions by attackers. Also logs can use to collect digital evidences in smart devices and to be forensics value for cybercrime investigations. In this paper, we propose a new logging scheme for smart devices and improve it to apply various environments. The proposed scheme satisfies the requirements of logging for smart devices. Thus it will help to develop a better logging in smart devices for digital evidences.

  • Although various wearable devices applying information technologies are launched, only some of them are forming their own markets, and product which general consumers started to use in their daily life is believed to be smart watch. This study is intended to find factors why such smart watches are selected in terms of individual consumer's characteristics in smart watches whose market is under its early stage. Smart watches are not forming their markets yet and this product is rather closer to a device attached to smart phone. But they would form markets only if their value is approved by themselves. This study looked into a structure under which smart watch forms its preference in terms of individual consumer and consumers are willing to use it. This study has its meaning by looking into factors why smart watch is spreading in market in terms of individual consumer's characteristics. Results from this study are believed to provide fruitful implication to establish market strategy for wearable devices including smart watch that is not much used yet by consumers.

  • The smart revolution led by Smart Phone in our daily lives is changing the paradigm in general. These smart revolution has provided us a lot of convenience, but on the other hand also appearing an inverse function. The host of the future of young people, especially by the excessive use of smart devices, there is a risk of side effects increased. In this study, the empirical analysis has been done to know how the used time of smart devices and youth sports activities affect to the emotional intelligence. Using regression analysis, the used time of smart devices showed negative relationship and the time of youth sports activities affected positively with the emotional intelligence. Additional analysis of the amount of reading also affected positively to the motional intelligence as a conclusion. Through this study, as a conclusion, traditional activities, namely sports activities and reading to help the youth developing emotional intelligence, while the use of smart devices inhibits the development of emotional intelligence of youth.

  • This study aims to provide implications by exploring the experiences of elderly customers using smart wearable devices. The proportion of the elderly among all customers is increasing day by day, and they are gradually trying to use smart devices more actively and improve the quality of life. It is known that the elderly have difficulty using smart devices compared to the younger generation, but this study aims to identify psychological mechanisms in the use process to help the elderly users use related devices more conveniently and joyfully and to actively apply them to service and product development. In particular, theoretical and practical implications were provided by investigating the causal relationship between variables that play a major role in the process of using smart devices, such as convenience, fun, and challenge.

  • Conventional IT device has been evolving into smart device based on more powerful computing, the adoption of platforms, and next generation networking. There are not many empirical studies with regard to the early adoption stage of smart IT technology devices. This paper aims to investigate intention to use smart device based an extended technology acceptance model (TAM) with flow empirically. We get the results that there are positive influences among multidimensional user characteristics and flow, perceived usefulness and the intention to use. According to this results, companies which want to dominate the market in advance should understand the characteristics of potential consumers in developing marketing strategies and contents.

  • The aim of this study was to provide basic contents which are based on the appropriate understanding, use, and information of smart devices for young children. The researcher surveyed mothers regarding the effects of their children's development as a result of using smart devices. A survey of 134 mothers with three to five-year-old children currently attending daycare centers or kindergartens was carried out. By using SPSS 18.0, the collected data of survey results was implemented via t-test and F verification. Study findings are as follows: First, the result of the survey analysis indicated that most mothers perceived that using smart devices did not heavily influence their child's development. Second, the mothers' perception was varied depending on whether it was their child's the first time using smart devices, the mother's education level, and on the mother's employment situation. However, there was no difference of perception in regards to gender. The results of this study suggest the necessity of parental intervention and prevention of side effect of children 's smart device use and parent education program.
