Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of self-foot reflexology on urinary incontinence symptoms, vaginal contraction and daily life discomfort of middle-aged women. Method: A quasi-experimental design was used. The subject were 39 middle-aged women with urinary incontinence, who were composed of 18 women in the experimental group, while 21 were in the control group. In the experimental group, self-foot reflexology was applied for 30 minutes, three times a week for 4 weeks. The obtained data were analyzed by using the Mann-Whitney U test of SPSS. Result: 1. Frequency(U=78.00, P=.001), amount(U=65.00, p=.001) and the situation score(U=81.00, P=.002)of urinary incontinence were reduced significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group. 2. Maximum pressure(U=33.50, p=.000), mean pressure(U=38.00 p=.000) of vaginal contraction were improved significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group. 3. Daily life discomfort in the experimental group was reduced whereas that of the control group was increased(U=63.00, p=.000) significantly. Conclusion: These findings indicate that self-foot reflexology is an effective method for reducing urinary incontinence symptoms and daily life discomfort and for increasing pressure of vaginal contraction of middle-aged women. Therefore self-foot reflexology can be considered as a independent nursing intervention for urinary incontinence.

Urinary Incontinence is any leakage of urine against their will. It is not a life threatening illness but it causes negative effects both socially and psychologically. Based on many previous studies, 20-40% of adult female and 30% of men in their sixties have experienced symptoms of urinary incontinence. As the number of active aged people experiencing the symptoms increases, demand for specialized product is growing. The purpose of the study is to research the types and features of male disposable products for urinary incontinence on the market and to provide the basic data for improvement and development of better product. Products from 6 brands (Tena, Depend, Carnation, Keepers, Molimed, Abrimen) with high brand awareness both in online and offline were selected and analyzed. And product evaluation was carried out by male in their sixties with light symptom of urinary incontinence. The results are as follows. There are three types of male products for urinary incontinence: panties, diaper and pad. Among the 6 brands, the subject of analysis, only Depend from Yuhan Kimberly produces male panties while others make ones for unisex. There is no diaper product only for male, and Tena, Molimed, Abrimen have pad type products for male. Male panties from Depend emphasizes their design considering male's physical characteristics. Male pad is differentiated with female one by having different designs like triangular or pocket type which is more comforting to men. As a result of product evaluation, wearable panties similar to normal underwear were highly appreciated and satisfactory. Among various shapes of pads, 25cm long pad with wide width of front and narrow back was valued to be comfortable.
This study evaluated the Comparison of the Effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Muscle exercise and Biofeedback treatment for Genuine Stress Incontinence I assigned 60 participants to 2 groups : 30 to the pelvic floor muscle exercise group and 30 to the biofeedback group. Treatment protocol lasted for 6 weeks. Peak pressure, and duration time of pelvic muscle contraction were evaluated by a perineometer. Lower urinary symptoms, sexual matter and life style scores were achieved by using Jackson's scale. The treatment efficacy of the pelvic floor muscle exercise is compared with the biofeedback group and the main results of the comparison are as follows : 1. Pelvic muscle contraction 1) The peak pressure in the biofeedback group was significantly increased(P=0.000). 2. The frequency and quantity of incontinence 1) The frequency of incontinence in the biofeedback group was significantly decreased(P=0.000). 2) The quantity of incontinence in the biofeedback group was significantly decreased(P=0.000). 3. The lower urinary symptoms Daily frequency(P=0.000), nocturia(P=0.000), urgency(P=0.000), bladder pain(P=0.000), unexplained incontinence(P=0.048), wearing protection(P=0.022), changing outer clothing(P=0.005), hesitancy(P=0.008), intermittent stream(P=0.000), abnormal strength of stream(P=0.004), retention(P=0.000), incomplete emptying(P=0.000), and inability to stop mid stream(P=0.006) of the lower urinary symptoms in the biofeedbatk group were significantly decreased. 4. The sexual matters The dry vagina (P=0.004) and pain during sexual Intercourse (P=0.002) in the biofeedback group was significantly decreased. 5. The life style The fluid intake restriction(P=0.007), affected daily task(P=0.003), avoidance of places & situation(P=0.003), interference in Physical activity (P=0.002), interference in relationship with other people(P=0.01), and feeling about the rest of life with urinary symptom(P=0.000) in the biofeedback group were significantly decreased. In conclusion, the biofeedback treatment was more effective than the pelvic floor muscle exercise in genuine stress incontinence.
Objective : The purpose of this case report is to offer an unprecedented target for Gyejigabuja-tang by analyzing a case in which the symptoms were improved by the herbal decoction therapy, and to accumulate a fundamental knowledge in herbal medicine therapy for urinary incontinence. Method : We studied a patient's chart with the patient's consent and displayed patient's timeline and adherence in a figure according to the CARE guideline. The progress of urination symptoms were assessed with the frequency of urination and how long the patient can stand urine. The accompanied lower limb pain was estimated with Numerical Rating Scale(NRS) Results : The patient's adherence was good during the medication period and symptoms related with urination and accompanied lower limb pain were improved with no specific side effects. NRS of the lower limb pain decreased from 7 to 2, the frequency of urination also improved from over 10 times to 6~8 times per day, and the patient can stand urine from less than 1 second to 2~3 minutes. Conclusions : Gyejigabuja-tang was effective for an urinary incontinence patient which corresponds to the provision No.20 in Shanghanlun.
Objective: This study evaluates the effects of traditional Korean medicine (including Guibi-tang) on a psychogenic urinary incontinence patient with hypersomnia disorder.Method: Herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion were carried out. The effect of the treatments was then evaluated via the Beck depression inventory (BDI), the Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), the symptom checklist-90-revised (SCL 90-R), the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), and the revised urinary incontinence scale (RUIS), as well as the number of urinations, incontinence levels, and sleeping times during the day. Results: After the treatments, both the urinary incontinence and hypersomnia symptoms showed improvement. Conclusion: This study suggests that traditional Korean medicine treatments are effective in caring for patients who suffer from psychogenic urinary incontinence with hypersomnia disorder.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify factors affecting the quality of life among community-dwelling older women with urinary incontinence (UI). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 475 women aged 60 or over who were recruited from 10 primary health care facilities in rural Korea. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of socio-demographic, health-related, and UI-related characteristics. The quality of life was assessed using Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QOL). SPSS/WIN 23.0 program was used to analyze descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation, and hierarchical regression. Results: Of 475 subjects, 180 (37.9%) had urinary incontinence. The mean scores of I-QOL of women with and without UI were 76.87 and 94.77, respectively. The results of hierarchical regression analysis show that the Questionnaire for Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis total score was the greatest influencing factor, followed by age and the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form total score. Conclusion: The study revealed that factors related to UI symptoms are more likely to have impact on the quality of life in women with UI. It suggests that early detection or management of UI is important in improving the quality of life of women with UI.

This study sought to typify incontinence symptoms and how women over sixty perceive incontinence panties and pads. The study uses Q methodology to analyze the perception of these products by type. The research utilized Q methodology and the QUANL pc program for analysis. Type 1 was a type of depression and anxiety due to incontinence. Type 1 was a type of thinking that incontinence was hidden from others. Type 2 was a smell-sensitive reclusion. Type 2 was most concerned about smell, as people sometimes avoid interpersonal relationships because of urinary incontinence. Type 3 was function-oriented toilet frequently. Type 3 was recognizing that the absorption function of incontinence products is important, as the toilet is frequently used. Type 3 mainly wore underwear among incontinence products and thought that incontinence was not hidden from others. In the case of incontinent women, products that prevent others from feeling the smell of urine were considered important. Future studies should expand on this study's work to analyze practical, currently-existing incontinence products.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a self-efficacy promotion program and to identify the effects of the program on degree of urinary incontinence, self-efficacy and quality of life in women with urinary incontinence. Method: The study used a pre-experimental design. Twenty participants were recruited from a nursing home located in Gwangju City and included residents, employees, and volunteer workers with urinary incontinence. Participants were surveyed from September 21 to November 2, 2005. The program treatment was provided to participants once a week for 6 weeks. Results: Frequency, amount, and situation scores for urinary incontinence, maximum and mean vaginal constriction pressure, vaginal constriction time, and nocturnal frequency were significantly improved after participating in the program (p<0.05). However, there was no significant pre- and posttest difference in frequency of daily urination (p=0.097). The degree of self-efficacy and quality of life for participants in the self-efficacy promotion program at posttest were significantly higher compared to the pretest scores (p<0.05). Conclusions: The results of the study indicate that a self-efficacy promotion program can be implemented for women with urinary incontinence in community health centers or nursing homes in order to reduce their incontinence symptoms, and increase self-efficacy and quality of life.

One of herbal remedy is selected according to the symptoms, and then herbal products are supplemented such as warm-hot, convergence medicines. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy has been performed with herbal medicine, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, conservation therapy such as Kegel exercise, timed voiding and extracorporeal magnetic innervation for incontinence treatment. The treatment of urinary incontinence by oriental medicine includes auricular acupuncture, external medical treatment and taoist methods. There is a lack of related study about these therapy.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in urinary frequency, residual urine volume, and quality of life following pelvic floor exercises using proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) exercise patterns and EMG biofeedback training in patients with stress urinary incontinence. Methods: The subjects were male patients diagnosed with stress urinary incontinence. This study used a single system design (A-B-C.) At baseline, the patients' symptoms prior to the treatment intervention were recorded (A section). Next, the patients performed the PNF exercise (B section). Thereafter, they performed the PNF exercise, with EMG biofeedback (C section). The subjects performed the exercises in each section for 1 week for a total of 3 weeks. Urinary frequency, residual urine volume, and quality of life of the subjects were measured. Results: The frequency of urination was 9 times in A, 8 times in A 'and B, and 7 times in C. The amount of residual urine decreased from 23.78ml in A to 21.85ml in A ', 14.85ml in B, and 14.63ml in C. The international prostate symptom score was 16 points in A, 14 points in A ', 11 points in B, and 7 points at A. The quality of life score was 4 points in A, 4 points in A ', 3 points in B, and 2 points in A. Conclusion: Both the PNF exercise and EMG biofeedback decreased urination frequency and residual urine volume and improved the quality of life of patients with stress urinary incontinence. EMG biofeedback training using the PNF technique was the most effective.
