In this study, Rural and urban housewives were compared in terms of their clothing practical use and clothing buying behavior. For the analysis, a nation-wide stratified sampling was made across the rural and urban areas. As a result, 400 subjects of housewives were selected and were asked to answer the questionnaire. Results of the analysis were as follows: 1. Both rural and urban housewives were found to have reliable knowledge about the kinds of clothes they are possessing. However, there were significant differences in the knowledge level of clothing practice methods, in clothing patterns of one′s favor, and in clothing buying behavior by the type of clothing. 2. With regard to the clothing buying behavior by the type of clothing, several differences were found between rural and urban housewives. Purchase motivation for formal wear, was found to be "I don′t have one" in overall, yet having a significant frequency difference between rural and urban housewives. Major evaluation criteria were "color and design" and "fits to me" for formal wear and "comfort and fitness" and "price" for casual wear, also having a significant frequency difference between rural and urban housewives. 3. Rural area housewives bought their formal wear in stores offering "low price or sale" while urban housewives looked at "quality and variety". The major source of information was "display and direct observation" and "previous experience" in both cases. The rural housewives bought clothes when they had any "event" and urban housewives bought them when they had "extra money or sale".
The purpose of this study was to compare dietary culture consciousness of rural and urban housewives through a nationwide survey. Interviewers interviewed 500 housewives(250 in rural and 250 in urban) using closed-ended questions. The dietary culture consciousness was divided into two parts of traditional aspect (dietary habit and ritual diet) and desirable aspect (food choice and nutrition knowledge). Each domain consisted of six items. Results of the study are summarized as fellows : 1) As a whole, dietary culture consciousness of rural housewives was more traditional than that of urban housewives in traditional aspect, and there was no difference of consciousness between rural and urban housewives in desirable aspect. 2) There was significant difference at 1% level between two groups in traditional aspect and there was no difference in desirable aspect. 3) By the analysis of each item, there was significant difference between two groups in 14 items. Especially, the item of westernized breakfast pattern was more acceptable in urban housewives than in rural. 4) In relationship between socio-demographic characteristics of housewives and dietary consciousness of them, age, educational level and religion of housewife were significant in traditional aspect, and so were educational level and job experience of housewives in desirable aspect. Dietary consciousness of rural housewives' was influenced by job experience (in traditional aspect) and age of housewives and level of living (in desirable aspect) In the case of urban housewives, level of living was significant in traditional aspect.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the discretionary consumption expenditure of Korean urban housewives and the factors contributing to the discretionary consumption expenditure. 535 housewives living in Seoul and Gyungki district were selected and frequencies percentile means standard deviation and multiple-regression analysis were utilized. The results of this study were as follows: First the monthly discretionary consumption expenditure of Korean urban housewives was 592,500won. Particularly the level of clothing expenditure for urban housewives of 135,700won was found to be the highest expenditure among other discretionary expenditures while the level of transportation expenditure of 68,100won was found to be the lowest expenditure. The aim of this study is to analyze the attitude of family economic management in urban and rural household and how it effect to each household. It was investigated the attitude of housewife for the family economy planning purchase, consumption and utilization of the resources by questionnaire. For the analysis, usable respones(410 from urban and 264 from rural housewife) were verified. The result of investigation if as follows ; 1. the housewives in urban and rural have attitude of purposal purchase in general. the information for the new products and prices are usually got6 by mass media. the urban wives keep records more than rural housewives. 2. They have reasonable behavior in purchase but when they select the goods, urban housewives prefer to the goods made by well-known company and rural housewives consider the prices. Otherwise the rural housewives take more the cooperative buying than urban housewives. 3. In urban they save some money regularly but in rural they can rarely save. the housewife manages all money for living expenses in urban, but in rural they do not so. 4. Human resources and nonhuman resorces are utilized in rural house better than the urban but especially household equipments are not used completely in both case.

This nutritional survey was conducted from January to March 1994, in order to investigate the nutirtional knowledge, food habits, nutritional attitude, food preferences and nutrient intakes of housewives living in urban area and rural area. The subjects of this survey were 164 urban housewives living in Daegu and Pohang area and 170 rural housewives living in Andong area. The results obtained are summarized as follows ; The subjects had a high level of perceived knowledge(81.2%), that is the knowledge that each subject believed she had, but the accuracy of the knowledge was only 66.3%. Most of the urban housewives belong to "Fair" or "Good" food habit group, while rural housewives belonged to "Fair" or "Poor" food habit group. The correlation between nutritional knowledge score and food habit score was low. And the correlation between nutritional attitude score and food habit score was low, too. Food perferences for kimchi, cooked rice, potato, milk were high in both group. Most of the nutrient intakes of the urban and rural housewives were not significantly different each otehr at p<0.05.ficantly different each otehr at p<0.05.
The Purpose of this study is to investigate both the value consciousness of home management and home management activities which urban low-paid housewives have and to find out the value consciousness of home management has an influence upon the home management activities. The results obtained area as follows; 1) Most of urban low-paid housewives are place in a traditional position of home management as a housekeeper or as a family leader. 2)But partially they gave more or less modern standpoints in consuming, planning and family relationship. 3) The value consciousness of home management of urban low-paid housewives is variable according to housewives' age (P<.05), education (P<.001), numbers of children(P<0.5) and wording experiences before marriage (P<0.1). The younger respondonts showed rather modernistic value consciousness of home management. The respondonts who have high educational level showed the same result. It is also strong points form them to habe few children and to have working experiences before marriage. 4) while the home management activities of urban low-paid housewives are positive as for connecting with human relationship, consuming and evaluating they are negative as for connecting with planning, creativity and housekeeping. 5)On the whole, the home management activities are variable by housewives' age (P<.05). The younger showed more effective home management abilities. 6) the home management activities of urban low-paid housewives are influenced by the value consciousness of home management. The more modernistic value consciousness of home management is connected directed directly with excellent home management activities.
In order to explore the present status of induced abortion, a survey was conducted on 578 married women : 320 employed women, 165 urban and 93 rural housewives, during the period form June, 1972 to september, 1972. The results were as follows: 1. The rates of induced abortion in urban housewives, employed women and rural housewives were 50.3%, 30.3% and 1l.8%, respectively. 2. With regard to the duration of marital life, the rate of induced abortion was higher group of 11-16 and 17-22 years of duration than those of less than 4 years ana more than 23 years. 3. There were significant differences between housewives and the employed women. and also between urban and rural housewives in the rates of induced abortion. 4. The mean number of pregnancies was 4.9 and 4.8 for the rural and urban housewives while for the employed women was 2.1. 5. The mean number of live births was 4.5 and 3.2 for the rural and urban housewives while for the employed women was 2.1. 6. Average number of living children of the women who had experienced induced abortions was 4.8 and 3.1 for the rural and urban housewives while for the employed . women was 2.5. 7. There was a significant correlation between induced abortions and social class or educational level. The higher their level of education or social class, the more frequently women were experienced induced abortions. 8. There was a significant correlation between experience of induced abortions and family planning practice, vis., the women who had experienced induced abortions made more use of family planning practices.
The purpose of this study is to classify the home management behaviors of urban housewives and to find out variables which influence them. Following are the results. 1. The home management behavior of urban housewives are classified into six types. Thouse expense and convenience oriented type, using the information and family centered type, tradition and steady oriented type, improving life type, conservative and thrifty type and the self-faithfulness and change adaption type. 2. Follows are the variables which have influenced on home management behaviors of urban housewives. \circled1 The level of education of housewives, perceived level of economical resources, income and evaluation level of life have influenced on expense and convenience oriented type. \circled2 The duration of marriage, the level of education of husband, the satisfaction of housework and communication interaction have influenced on using the information and family centered type. \circled3 The satisfaction of housework, the perceived level of economical resources, the level of education of husband and the age of housewives have influenced on the tradition and steady oriented type. \circled4 The perceived level of family resources and the communication interaction have influenced on the improving life type. \circled5 The communication interaction and the income have influenced on conservative and thrifty type. \circled6 The perceived level of economical resources, the satisfication of housework, the communication interaction, the level of education of housewives, the age of housewives and the number of children have influenced on the self-faithfulness and change-adaption type.

The purpose of this study is to investigate some influencial factors for urban housewives’economic retirement preparation. Questionnaires were distributed to the 550 housewives in Seoul. The 453 data obtained were analyzed by Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Factor analysis, Reliability, and Stepwised Multiple Regression with SPSS win PC+. The major findings of this study were summarized as follows: First, there wre significant differences on the attitudes of assets management and the perception of assets property according to the expectation for being supported in their old age and the controlable values. Second, the most influential variables on the economic preparation for the old age of the urban housewives were through the attitudes of assets management, the perception on it and controlable values. Based on the above findings the urban housewives should have concerns on the economic preparation in advance.

The purpose of this study is to investigate some related factors which influence subjective economic well-being of the urban housewives, based on family cohesion and adaptability. Questionnaires were distributed to the 1,800 housewives residing in Seoul. The 1261 data obtained were analyzed by Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Multiple Regression. The major findings of this study were summarized as follows. (1) There were significant differences on the economic well-being of the urban housewives according to the social demographic variables, the objective variables, the perceptions of the subjective variables, the conjugal variables, the perceptions of the subjective economics well-being by the urban housewives were in the rank of the perceptions of the subjective(R²=.37), the objective variable(R²=.33) and the family cohesion and adaptability(R²=.28). Based on the above findings, this study concludes that the intermediary variables. such as family cohesion and adaptability are essential elements for comprehending the urban housewives’economic well-being. Accordingly in has been found that the value of family remains important factors to guide in despite the radical changes. If greater attentions should be directed to the social welfare, the quality of family life could be improved and stabilized.
