Systems Engineering Plan for the Development of Ultra-High-Speed Maglev Train System (초고속 자기부상철도 개발을 위한 시스템엔지니어링 계획서)

  • The systems engineering (SE) process shall be applied to the project for successful development of ultra-high-speed (UHS) Maglev train system which is one of very large and complex systems. It is important to abolish technology differentials from the advanced developers such as Germany, Japan, etc. and to ensure discriminatory competitiveness of the application of systems engineering process for the development of the system based on appropriate concepts and requirements. General operation concept and stakeholder's requirements of UHS Maglev train system must be elicited with system concept for initiating the project. The management plan should be devised for all sorts of systems engineering activities of risk management, performance management, lifecycle cost management, etc. This paper would support to establish the systems engineering management plan (SEMP) for the program of UHS Maglev train system development with associated documents.

  • This study is a theoretical study on philosophical thinking for examining the idea of the corporate social responsibility(CSR) of a company. The oriental philosophical thought is to understand the contents of social responsibility of the corporation centering on Mozi's philosophy, which stresses that people should care for everyone equally. In the Western philosophical thought, we tried to understand the contents of corporate social responsibility by focusing on utilitarian thought. It is not merely an actual principle or a moral principle, but a comprehension for mutual benefit. In conclusion, it can be concluded that universal love's approach through the gangbang has many similarities with the realization of the greatest happiness of the number that is uttered in utilitarian thinking. In this way, a sustainable competitiveness of corporations can be achieved through universal love and utilitarian philosophical understanding and practice for the cognition of social responsibility.

  • Recently the Korean Government is increasing investment and interest on railway in the transportation field as "low carbon and green growth" policy become main national development strategy. While railway competitiveness is weakening over the road from the inconvenient door-to-door and transfer system of railway, it is meaningful to review excellent railway transfer system of advanced countries and adapt their implications for Korea. Their transfer systems like Japan, Hongkong, France, U.K. and German can be categorized in this research as kinds of transfer & connectivity system and transfer facility & flow planning, and, as a result, their implications can be concluded. Also, analyzing transfer system of Korea's main stations and reviewing the difference between Korea and other countries, this paper suggests main principles and directions of urban planning, alignment of rail line, partnership of project stakeholder in the establishment of transfer system in the railway station in the future.

  • Companies are reluctant to disclose information because of trade secret and corporate identity For the same reasons, logistics companies do not want to operate in the form of a community In urban areas, the loading of vehicles is 100% as the quantity of goods transported is too much. In mountain areas, however, the load condition of the vehicle is not 100% because of the low quantity of goods transported Therefore, the transportation costs will increase as the cost of transport increase, the competitiveness of firms will also decline In this paper, we studied a simulation to measure driving time and volume of cargo according to the change of the quantity of goods transported in the mountain area According to the research results, we got a conclusion that the proposed method makes the operation time be less and the volume of cargo increase compared with the existing operation method.

  • The Haidian Garden of Zhongguancun Science and Technology Zone is an area with high intellectual intensity. It is therefore known as China's Silicon Valley. The Summer Palace, a World Heritage Site, sits in the northwest part of it. 250 years ago, the construction of imperial gardens in this area, including the Summer Palace, gave birth to the appearance and prosperity of the town of Haidian. This will also provide various opportunities for the growth of the science and technology. Today the green space, the cultural and ecological environment of the Summer Palace, and its 3-kilometer buffer zone are becoming one important strategic factor for the Haidian Garden to attract talents, improve international competitiveness and realize sustainable development. How to taking advantage of the favorable resources, to achieve balance between protection of the environment around the Summer Palace and urban development, will be of great importance in the future plans of the science and technology.

Maglev(UTM-02) Brake System Change from Pneumatic Bake System to Hydraulic Brake System

  • The Maglev(UTM-02) project is leading by Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials and financially supported from the ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy. The early development stagy of Maglev(UTM-02) was adopted the general urban railway pneumatic brake system due to the Korea domestic industrial environment. Currently there is two commercial operation Light Railway Train(LRT) system in Korea. One is U-Line in Uijungbu, and the other is Everline in Yongin. Both LRT systems are adopting high performance light weight hydraulic brake system. But those design and manufacturing core technology of the brake system is came from a major brake system companies located from aboard. Currently various studies have been continued to increase practical application and to improve competitiveness on performance for each sub-system of Maglev. Also in case of brake system, developing competitive hydraulic brake system is required. In this study, we have introduced the development process and performance evaluation of the new hydraulic brake system of Maglev.

  • Personal Air Vehicle is expected to be a promising solution to relieve traffic congestion using urban airspace. The development of related technologies such as materials or batteries has been accelerated. In addition, commercial transportation services are being prepared. When fierce competition begins in the PAV market, even technologically superior products will disappear without choices by consumers. Therefore, demand factors should be reflected in PAV development to enhance competitiveness. In the paper, values were estimated for the major technological attributes of PAV. Stated preference data were collected through a survey, and the conjoint method and ordered probit model were adopted. Thereafter, it was confirmed that the value would be high in the order of dual mode, drone-type appearance, and noise reduction. Some R&D strategies were proposed based on this.

  • Give high priority to the technologies that can be directly applicable to the U-City development projects which are in progress by many central and local governments. Create a real world product at the end of R&D phase by testing prototypes in test-beds or test-labs. Recently, new construction technologies have been developed, but they are rarely being applied to the construction filed. In this paper, the basic design was examined so that various technologies can be selected through a test-bed, analyzed for the real situation, and applied to actual construction sites. Improve productivity of regional and urban construction exercises and improve competitiveness of related products and services using IT-based telemetering/GIS technology.

  • Culture and art are emerging as main components in the creative economy to enhance the competitiveness of urban centres in the global market by nurturing cultural or artistic industries. A range of research exists which investigates the role of artists and art museums in the process of urban regeneration in Northern American and Western European countries. Yet research into the geography of at galleries acting as an intermediary between art works and cultural consumers remain rare. Empirical research on gentrification and urban regeneration and their connection with spaces for cultural consumption in Asian cities is even less common. The aim of this paper is to show the rise and decline of art galleries in Seoul and the way that this reflects urban development process, historically specific conditions and the characteristics of artists' communities. The background of the locational agglomeration of an galleries is examined in connection with the human ecology of artists, art business and its implication for the global market. The location of art galleries in Seoul seems to be affected by commercial art business and public policy, rather than by artists communities embedded in local areas. The location dynamics of art gallery clusters in Seoul is examined in the context of rent increases, changes of consumers' taste and fluctuating market cycles.

A Study on the Non-Innovative Formation of Urban Industrial Agglomeration in an Old Industrial Complex: A Case of Seoul Onsu Industrial Complex (노후산업단지의 비혁신형 도시산업 집적지 형성에 관한 연구: 서울온수산업단지를 사례로)

  • The Seoul Onsu Industrial Complex, having been completed over 50 years ago, is an old industrial complex, with deteriorating infrastructure and factory buildings. Despite this, there's a current urban industrial agglomeration centered on the machinery industry in the Seoul Onsu Industrial Complex. This study aims to holistically analyze the physical deterioration of facilities in the aging industrial complex and the characteristics of industrial agglomeration to derive the identity of the Seoul Onsu Industrial Complex. Based on the research findings, the complex is seeing an enhanced urban industrial agglomeration due to the influx of small-scale businesses resulting from concentrated trade networks in the metropolitan area and plot subdivision, permission for noise-producing processes, and the ease of securing highly-skilled technicians. However, this agglomeration coexists with a weakening of the complex's production function, limited innovativeness of resident companies, and non-innovative features resulting from weakened competitiveness in the metropolitan machinery industry. In summary, the identity of the Seoul Onsu Industrial Complex is a 'Non-Innovative Urban Industry Agglomeration', an old industrial complex, witnessing non-innovative agglomeration based on a machinery industry network centered in the metropolitan area.
