In this paper, we propose a simple algorithm for detecting underwater transient signals on the fact that the frequency range of underwater transient signals is similar to audio frequency. For this, we use a preprocessing module of EVRC speech codec that is the standard speech codec of the mobile communications. If a signal is entered into EVRC noise suppression module, we can get some parameters such as the update flag, the energy of each channel, the noise suppressed signal, the energy of input signal, the energy of background noise, and the energy of enhanced signal. Therefore the energy of the enhanced signal that is normalized with the energy of the background noise is compared with the pre-defined detection threshold, and then we can detect the transient signal. And the detection threshold is updated using the previous value in the noisy period. The experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm has $0{\sim}4% error rate in the AWGN or the colored noise environment.
Spontaneous speech is ungrammatical as well as serious phonological variations, which make recognition extremely difficult, compared with read speech. In this paper, for conversational speech recognition, we analyze the transcriptions of the real conversational speech, and then classify the characteristics of conversational speech in the speech recognition aspect. Reflecting these features, we obtain the baseline system for conversational speech recognition. The classification consists of long duration of silence, disfluencies and phonological variations; each of them is classified with similar features. To deal with these characteristics, first, we update silence model and append a filled pause model, a garbage model; second, we append multiple phonetic transcriptions to lexicon for most frequent phonological variations. In our experiments, our baseline morpheme error rate (WER) is 31.65%; we obtain MER reductions such as 2.08% for silence and garbage model, 0.73% for filled pause model, and 0.73% for phonological variations. Finally, we obtain 27.92% MER for conversational speech recognition, which will be used as a baseline for further study.
The High Level Architecture(HLA) specifies a framework for interoperation between heterogeneous simulators, and Run-Time Infrastructure(RTI) is a implementation of the HLA Interface Specification. The Data Distribution Management(DDM) services, one category of IEEE 1516 HLA/RTI management services, control filters for data transmission and reception of data volume among simulators. In this paper, we propose design concept of DDM and show its implementation for light-weighted RTI. The design concept of DDM is to minimize total amount of message that each federate and a federation process generate using the rate of RTI service execution. The design of our proposed DDM follows that a data transfer mechanism is differently applied as the rate of RTI service execution. A federate usually publishes or subscribes data when it starts. The federate constantly updates the data and modifies associated regions while it continues to advance its simulation time. Therefore, the proposed DDM design provides fast update or region modification in exchange of complex publish and subscribe services. We describe how to process the proposed DDM in IEEE 1516 HLA/RTI and experiment variable scenarios while modifying region, changing overlap ratio, and increasing data volume.
The purpose of this study is to produce a better way to detect crossroad accidents, which involves an efficient method to produce background images in consideration of object movement and preserve/demonstrate the candidate accident region. One of the prior studies proposed an employment of traffic signal interval within crossroad to detect accidents on crossroad, but it may cause a failure to detect unwanted accidents if any object is covered on an accident site. This study adopted inverse perspective mapping to control the scale of object, and proposed different ways such as producing robust background images enough to resist surrounding noise, generating candidate accident regions through information on object movement, and by using edge information to preserve and delete the candidate accident region. In order to measure the performance of proposed algorithm, a variety of traffic images were saved and used for experiment (e.g. recorded images on rush hours via DVR installed on crossroad, different accident images recorded in day and night rainy days, and recorded images including surrounding noise of lighting and shades). As a result, it was found that there were all 20 experiment cases of accident detected and actual effective rate of accident detection amounted to 76.9% on average. In addition, the image processing rate ranged from 10~14 frame/sec depending on the area of detection region. Thus, it is concluded that there will be no problem in real-time image processing.
One of the crucial elements to fully facilitate the various benefits of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is to obtain more reliable traffic monitoring in real time. To date, point and section-based traffic measurements have been available through existing surveillance technologies, such as loops and automatic vehicle identification (AVI) systems. However, seamless and more reliable traffic data are required for more effective traffic information provision and operations. Technology advancements including vehicle tracking and wireless communication enable the acceleration of the availability of individual vehicle travel information. This study presents a UBIquitous PRObe vehicle Surveillance System (UBIPROSS) using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) wireless communications. Seamless vehicle travel information, including origin-destination information, speed, travel times, and other data, can be obtained by the proposed UBIPROSS. A set of parameters associated with functional requirements of the UBIPROSS, which include the market penetration rate (MPR) of equipped vehicles, V2V communication range, and travel time update interval, are investigated by a Monte Carlo simulation- (MCS) based evaluation framework. In addition, this paper describes prototypical implementation. Field test results and identified technical issues are also discussed. It is expected that the proposed system would be an invaluable precursor to develop a next-generation traffic surveillance system.

Purpose : Results of the Korea National Health Screening Program for Infants and Children, which was launched in November 2007, were evaluated for future research and policy development. Methods : Data from a total of 2,729,340 cases were analyzed. Five visiting ages, such as 4, 9, 18, 30, and 60 months, were included. Several parameters such as stunting, obesity, and positive rate of developmental screening were also analyzed. Telephone survey was performed in 1,035 users. For the provider survey, 262 doctors participated in our study. Results : The overall participation rate of users was 35.3%. This participation rate showed a decrement tendency to old age and low income. Only 6.9% of users participated in oral screening. Health screening was performed mainly in private clinics (82.6%). The recall rate of 4 months program users at the age of 9 months was 57.3%. The positive rate of screening was 3.1%, and was higher in the low-income group. By telephone survey, users reported that questionnaires were not difficult (94%) and overall satisfaction was good (73%). Longer duration of counseling was related with more satisfied users. Counseling and health education were helpful to users (73.2%). Doctors agreed that this program was helpful to children (98.5%). Conclusion : Korea National Health Screening Program for Infants and Children was launched successfully. Participation rate should be improved, and a quality control program needs to be developed. More intensive support following this program for children of low-income families may lead to effective interventions in controlling health inequality. Periodic update of guidelines is also needed.

In GIS area, many line simplification algorithms are studied among generalization methods used for making the building data in the form of digital map from the original line data. On the other hand, there are few studies on the simplification algorithm considering the drawing rules of the digital map in Korea. In this paper, the line simplification algorithm based on the drawing rules is proposed as the methodology to create or update the building data of digital map by extracting the building outline from the CAD data used in construction. To confirm the usefulness of the algorithm, this algorithm and four other effective and general line simplification algorithms (e.g., Douglas-Peucker algorithm) are applied to the same building outlines. Then, the five algorithms are compared on five criteria, the satisfaction degree of the drawing rules, shape similarity, the change rate of the number of points, total length of lines, and the area of polygon. As a result, the proposed algorithm shows the 100% of satisfaction degree to the drawing rules. Also, there is little loss in four other mentioned criteria. Thus, the proposed algorithm in this paper is judged to be effective in updating the building data in digital map with construction drawings.

Recently, researches on DBRN(DataBase Referenced Navigation) system are being carried out to replace GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System), as weaknesses of GNSS were found that are caused by the intentional interference and the jamming of the satellite signal. This paper describes the gravity gradient modeling and the construction of EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) based GGRN(Gravity Gradient Referenced Navigation). To analyze the performance of GGRN, fourteen flight trajectories were made for simulations over whole South Korea. During the simulations, we considered the errors in both DB(DataBase) and sensor as well as the flight altitudes. Accurate performances were found, when errors in the DB and the sensor are small and they located at lower altitude. For comparative evaluation, the traditional TRN(Terrain Referenced Navigation) was also developed and performances were analyzed relative to those from the GGRN. In fact, most of GGRN performed better in low altitude, but both of precise gravity gradient DB and gradiometer were required to obtain similar level of precisions at the high altitude. In the future, additional tests and evaluations on the GGRN need to be performed to investigate on more factors such as DB resolution, flight speed, and the update rate.
An algorithm for a hybrid controller consists of a sliding mode control part and a fuzzy logic part which ar purposely for nonlinear systems. The sliding mode part of the solution is based on "eigenvalue/vector"-type controller is used as the backstepping approach for tracking errors. The fuzzy logic part is a Mamdani fuzzy model. This is designed by applying sliding mode control (SMC) method to the dynamic model. The main objective is to keep the update dynamics in a stable region by used SMC. After that the plant behavior is presented to train procedure of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS). ANFIS architecture is determined and the relevant formulation for the approach is given. Using the error (e) and rate of error (de), occur due to the difference between the desired output value (yd) and the actual output value (y) of the system. A dynamic adaptation law is proposed and proved the particularly chosen form of the adaptation strategy. Subsequently VSC creates a sliding mode in the plant behavior while the parameters of the controller are also in a sliding mode (stable trainer). This study considers the ANFIS structure with first order Sugeno model containing nine rules. Bell shaped membership functions with product inference rule are used at the fuzzification level. Finally the Mamdani fuzzy logic which is depends on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems structure designed. At the transferable stage from ANFIS to Mamdani fuzzy model is adjusted for the membership function of the input value (e, de) and the actual output value (y) of the system could be changed to trapezoidal and triangular functions through tuning the parameters of the membership functions and rules base. These help adjust the contributions of both fuzzy control and variable structure control to the entire control value. The application example, control of a mass-damper system is considered. The simulation has been done using MATLAB. Three cases of the controller will be considered: for backstepping sliding-mode controller, for hybrid controller, and for adaptive backstepping sliding-mode controller. A numerical example is simulated to verify the performances of the proposed control strategy, and the simulation results show that the controller designed is more effective than the adaptive backstepping sliding mode controller.

In the standard location strategy such as IS-41 and GSM, Home Location Register(HLR) and Visitor Location Register(VLR) databases are used to manage the location of mobile terminals. The primary goal that location management schemes investigate is to reduce the cost of database access and the traffic for signaling network. When mobile terminals move frequently, one of problems in the standard location management scheme is that HLR database is highly updated and the traffic in signaling network can be occurred significantly due to high message transfer rate between HRL and VLR. As a solution to these problems, this paper proposes the location management scheme using VLR Gateway(VG) to reduce the both traffics of HLR update and signaling network which are resulted from location registration requirements of mobile terminals whenever they cross their registration area boundary. VG is a kind of database that is placed between HLR and VLR. It integrates one or more registration area defined in a system into one group and plays a role on behalf of HLR in a integrated registration scope so that the call delivery and the movement of mobile terminals are possible without HLR access in the scope. In order to evaluate performance of IS-41 and proposed scheme, we simulate two schemes based on wide range of call to mobility ratio. Its experiment result shows that in the proposed scheme total database cost increased slightly whereas HLR and signaling traffic decreased remarkably.
