  • Atherosclerosis is a cardiovascular disease in which plaque builds up inside of an artery and can lead to various complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and thrombosis. Recently, hypertriglyceridemia has attracted significant attention as contributors to development of atherosclerosis. However, molecular mechanism of its contribution to atherosclerosis is poorly understood. Here we proposed a potential link between triglyceride (TG) and atherosclerosis. TG treatment promoted downregulation of certain scavenger receptor, macrophage scavenger receptor-1 (MSR-1) in phorbol myristate acetate (PMA)-derived human macrophages. TG treatment caused reduction of MSR-1 mRNA expression in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Using chemical inhibitors, we found that inhibition of signaling pathways associated with PI3K and PLC enhances TG-induced reduction of MSR-1 expression in THP-1 macrophages implying that PI3K and PLC is implicated in the expression of MSR-1 in macrophages. Since MSR-1 is associated with uptake and clearance of atherogenic lipoprotein, oxidized low density lipoprotein (oxi-LDL), our data suggest that increase of oxi-LDL due to TG-mediated reduction of its receptor MSR-1 can promote atherosclerosis.

  • This paper reports on the development of a new foot for a quadrupedal jointed-leg type walking robot. The foot has 2 toes, one at the front and the other at the rear side, for stable landing on uneven ground by point contact. The toes can move up and down independantly, guided by double-wishbone shaped parallel links which enable the lower leg to rotate with respect to a remote center on the ground surface. The motion of each toe is damped by a hydropneumatic shock absorber integrated in the foot in order to absorb the dynamic landing shock. Furthermore, the new foot can reduce the maximum hip joint drive torque by shortening the moment arm length between the hip joint and the landing force vector on the ground. Intensive experiments were carried out in this study by using a one-leg walking model to investigate the soft landing performance of the foot which could be hardly offered by conventional robot feet such as a flat plate with a gimbal type ankle joint. And it was confirmed that the hip joint torque of the leg walking on the flat surface could be reduced remarkably by using the new foot.

  • Purpose: The serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level has been recognized as a prognostic factor in colorectal cancer, and associated with response of rectal cancer to radiotherapy. This study aimed to identify CEA-interacting proteins in colon cancer cells and observe post-irradiation changes in their expression. Materials and Methods: CEA expression in colon cancer cells was examined by Western blot analysis. Using an anti-CEA antibody or IgG as a negative control, immunoprecipitation was performed in colon cancer cell lysates. CEA and IgG immunoprecipitates were used for liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. Proteins identified in the CEA immunoprecipitates but not in the IgG immunoprecipitates were selected as CEA-interacting proteins. After radiation treatment, changes in expression of CEA-interacting proteins were monitored by Western blot analysis. Results: CEA expression was higher in SNU-81 cells compared with LoVo cells. The membrane localization of CEA limited the immunoprecipitation results and thus the number of CEA-interacting proteins identified. Only the Ras-related protein Rab-6B and lysozyme C were identified as CEA-interacting proteins in LoVo and SNU-81 cells, respectively. Lysozyme C was detected only in SNU-81, and CEA expression was differently regulated in two cell lines; it was down-regulated in LoVo but up-regulated in SNU-81 in radiation dosage-dependent manner. Conclusion: CEA-mediated radiation response appears to vary, depending on the characteristics of individual cancer cells. The lysozyme C and Rab subfamily proteins may play a role in the link between CEA and tumor response to radiation, although further studies are needed to clarify functional roles of the identified proteins.

  • This paper compares the performance of feedback consolidation algorithms with or without a fast overload indication function which has been recently proposed in the ATM Forum for multicast ABR (Available Bit Rate) services in ATM networks. We use the performance criteria such as the ACR (Allowed Cell Rate) of a source, queue length at a switch, link utilization, fairness, and BRM (Backward Resource Management) cell overhead. Simulation results show that performance of the feedback consolidation algorithms with a fast overload indication function can be improved sign.ificantly than that of algorithms without this function in terms of ramp-down delay, particularly in initial start-up period or under a severe overload situation. The fast overload indication function can be combined with any feedback consolidation algorithm, whereas its performance is highly dependent on an underlying basic feedback consolidation algorithm.

  • This article is exploring the possibility of establishment of a 'Smart Citizens Party'. In the society based the social computing, the individual leads the technical progress and the society which is adapted for this circumstance is changing in the direction of user-centric. Also, in the political process, we can see this social phenomenon. In other words, there's a quite possibility that decision-making structure may shift from the top-down approach to the bottom-up approach by the networked individuals or flexible voluntary group. In this context, this paper will propose the 'Smart Citizens Party' model that accept the change of political and social environment due to the advent of the social computing and cope with this change. The 'Smart Citizens Party' means the 'Party for Smartizen' of this social computing era. The 'Smart Citizens Party' is the intermediate party that link the political party to the civil society and is smart citizen's party that is operated democratically by active participation of citizens. This paper will review on structure and operational issues of political parties in Korea and study future-oriented solution and/or way to discovered problems of political parties in Korea.

  • We came to the conclusion after considering all the information from many kinds of books on the circulation courses, cross-link points, functions and the symptoms of disease of Chongmai. The results were as follows : 1. The Chongmai that starts from a Uterus flows to Dazhu through the inside of vertebra after joining Renmai and Duimai at Huiyin. The Chongmais up-line that comes out from Qichong into a surface of body arrives and is scattered at a chest through an abdomen. One strand of them goes upward again and is connected to a throat and lips area. After coming out from Qichong, separated down-line is divided into two parts when it arrives a inner part of a heel through the inner part of a leg. One is for an instep, the other is for the sole of a foot. 2. We call it "Sea of Twelve Meridians" or "Meridian's Sea". Because Chongmai controls all of Meridian by acquired "Basic energy" as getting Stomach's energy, Kidney's energy and air-energy, and there are responsible of physiological phenomenon control. And also we name it "Sea of Blood", because it starts from and provides a nutrition to Uterus. 3. All of these four Meridian such as Renmai, Kidney Meridian, Stomach Meridian and Spleen Meridian are ones that flow around the part of a chest and an abdomen. Chongmai makes energy and blood circulation of a chest and an abdomen be stronger and be controlled. Therefore it makes viscera, bowels and body surface be warm and given a nutrition. So Chongmai becomes "Sea of Viscera and Bowels". 4. Chongmai provides a nutrition for ligament and muscle and makes legs get warm as making energy and blood circulate from head to foot. If Chongmai is energetic, hair is completely easy to grow. 5. To see in pathological phase, Chongmais failure or weakness causes like a chest pain, stomachache, heart attack, a menstrual irregularity and sterility and so on. And also if Chongmai is damaged, it happens that giving a nutrition for lips area is stopped, and then mustache doesn't grow any more.

  • This paper describe development of a hardware simulator for the DFIG wind power system, which was designed considering wind characteristic, blade characteristic, and blade inertia compensation. The simulator consists of three major parts, such as wind turbine model using induction motor, doubly-fed induction generator, converter-inverter set. and control system. The turbine simulator generates torque and speed signals for a specific wind turbine with respect to the given wind speed which is detected by Anemometer. This torque and speed signals are scaled down to fit the input of 3.5kW DFIG. The MSC operates to track the maximum power point, and the GSC controls the active and reactive power supplied to the grid. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC. And the implementation feasibility was confirmed through experimental works with a hardware set-up.

  • This research aims to examine the cause-and-effect relationship between Organizational Justice and Organizational Commitment within ICT corporates for fire prevention, through Leader-Member Exchange(LMX) and Organizational Support. A survey was conducted to corporate employees from staff members to executives. A total of 316 responses were collected during two weeks from May 1st to 17th, 2019, and were analyzed in this research. The result of the theory on ICT fire prevention was as follows: First, Distributive Justice has significant influence on Organizational Support, while it does not on LMX. Second, Procedural Justice has significant influence on both Organizational Support and LMX. Third, while Interactional Justice does not have significant influence on Organizational Support, LMX showed significant influence. Fourth, Organizational Support has significant influence on Organizational Commitment. Fifth, LMX has significant influence on Organizational Commitment. This research is academically significant in that it applied the Justice Theory on ICT corporates for fire prevention from staff members to executives. It is considered so, since existing researches mainly address on the status of technologies and policies on how to link fire prevention and ICT, and not on fair compensation based on Organization Justice theory. Practical significance can be found in its suggestions to improving organizational culture from top-down to bottom-up, thus creating free and engaging atmosphere at work. It is therefore needed to conduct further researches that categorize executives by their traits, and examine factors influencing on organizational commitment within ICT corporates for fire prevention.

  • The purpose of this paper is an optimum design of the shaped Cassegrainian antenna system for the base station. The process of the shaped Cassegrainian antenna design is as follows : 1) the aperture field distribution is determined so as to meet design specifications, 2) a proper design parameter is selected, 3) extracting of the dimension data for the main and sub-reflector antenna To do these, Hansen's distribution is chosen as the aperture field, and the far-field pattern from the aperture is predicted by the angular spectrum. Firstly, the aperture field distribution is designed to satisfy the specification for design frequency, it is confirmed if this distribution meet the specification for another frequency band. The main- and the sub-reflectors are synthesized so as for the given beamwaveguide feed pattern to be transformed into the prescribed aperture distribution. The designed system has circular aperture, left-right symmetry and no tilted structure. The continuous surface functions of reflectors are obtained by adopting the global interpolation technique to the discrete reflector profiles. Jacobi polynomial-sinusoidal is used as the basis function. A Ka-band Cassegrainian antenna operates over 17.7 – 20.2 GHz for down-link band and 27.5 – 30 GHz for up-link band is designed.
