This study collected and analyzed records related to the Asian dust phenomenon in Korean history books. I collected a wide range of records from diverse sources and identified data for analysis. 290 records were selected through this process. These records provide a variety of information including the occurrence time and duration of the phenomenon, other natural phenomenon occurring at the same date, descriptions of the phenomenon, and so on. Reports on, Asian dust in the historical records was not continuous or uniform. However, their appearance in certain months of the year is similar to that observed in modern times. In addition, I collected 90 records showing it that can be largely divided into two viewpoints which they were a natural calamity or an unusual phenomenon. Generally, natural phenomenons in historical books are mostly recorded in viewpoint of unusual phenomenon. Nevertheless, research result verified the record as actual observational data. Consequentially, it also indicates that this data is important for research from a meteorological point of view. I think that the data collected through this study can be helpful to modern meteorological studies related to the Asian dust phenomenon.

When the long - lasting stationary fronts were pushed northward by the Pacific Highs in late July, mostly clear skies with intermittent showers were a typical weather of August in Korea. However, torrential rains and flash floods are now a seasonal event of August in recent years. Some meteorologists suspect this unusual phenomenon might be connected with the global change and are concerned about the possibility of change in summer climatic pattern in Korea. August of year 2002 must be remembered to be one of the record breaking months with respect to the rainfall events. In this paper, we analyzed the weather and crop data nationwide for August in 2002, and suggest a few countermeasures necessary to overcome the wet and cool summer impacts on agricultural sector.

There are many drugs reproted to show unusual pharmacokinetic behavior by producing a significant secondary peak in the plasma concentration-time curve after oral administration. The drugs are ranitidine, cimetidine, acetaminophen, aspirin, furosemide, bumetanide, piretanide, veralipride, sobrerol, penicillamine and doxycycline etc. Enterohepatic circulation-, two absorption site-, biphasic gastric emptying-, tissue deposition- and multi-fraction absorption theories have been suggested for the mechanisms of this phenomenon. Here, the theories were reviewed and critisized for their validity as a possible mechanism of the multiple peak phenomenon.

The kinetic studies on the reactions of O-methyl N,N-diisopropylamino phosphonochloridothioate with X-anilines and X-pyridines have been carried out in acetonitrile. The free energy relationship with X in the anilines exhibits biphasic concave upwards with a break region between X = (H and 4-F), giving unusual negative ${\beta}_X$ and positive ${\rho}_X$ values with weakly basic anilines. The unusual phenomenon is rationalized by isokinetic relationship. A stepwise mechanism with a rate-limiting leaving group departure from the intermediate is proposed based on the selectivity parameter and variation trend of the deuterium kinetic isotope effects with X. The free energy relationship with X in the pyridines exhibits biphasic concave upwards with a break point at X = 3-MeO. A concerted mechanism is proposed based on relatively small ${\beta}_X$ value, and frontside and backside nucleophilic attack are proposed with strongly and weakly basic pyridines, respectively.

Current database systems are based on the assumption that a datum denotes the same meaning; however, in reality, the violation of this assumption is not unusual. Some data are created in such a way that they represent different sets of attribute values. The current research formulates this phenomenon as dissimilarities of derivation rules and defines multi-derived data as ones that are derived by multiple rules. For multi- derived data, this research proposes a new retrieval scheme and analyze its implication with relation to data retrieval.

Recently, unusual transformer failures have been reported in 25kV power systems connected with a VCB and transformer. In this study, performance of the protection system, dielectric strength of the transformers, characteristics of switching surges and resonance phenomena were analysed and assessed. All investigations regarding the insulation breakdown of the transformers were carried out by simulations, laboratory tests, factory tests and on-site measurements in order to thoroughly investigate the root causes. Furthermore, experimental methods for investigating the resonance phenomenon were derived and tests were conducted applying the derived method to recreate the phenomenon in the transformer. It is found that resonance between the transformer and switching surge generated by closing a VCB can initiate the breakdown of internal windings of a transformer.

This paper interprets the work of Hans Bellmer, who took pictures after making a doll and distorting its form, and Diane Arbus, who took documentary photographs of unusual and marginalized people, as uncanny anxiety referred to by Freud. Through these two photographers' works, this paper examined how anxiety was used as an aesthetic strategy, and discussed the uncanny as an aesthetic experience. Uncanny refers to the phenomenon of familiar things being repressed and returning to their original place, or the phenomenon of familiarity being alienated due to repression. The aesthetic strategy of uncanny is used to bring a blind spot in reality that can be easily missed with an ordinary vision into the fore, by allowing for the slight shock to an appreciator. The ultimate goal of uncanny aesthetics is to promote both inner and external changes as well as to expand the scope of imagination, through freely crossing the borders between consciousness and unconsciousness, sympathy and antipathy, and reality and fiction.

NAD4 as a gene encoding NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 in the micodhondrion from maize has been cloned using RT-PCR and sequenced for examining RNA edited sites. Analysis of mt cDNA sequences showed the typical RNA editing patterns and unusual base changes as well;RNA editing from cDNA sequences occured base change from c to U in most cases, however transitions from t to g and G to A were also observed. Even though those editings appared to be occurred randomly, RNA edited sites showed mostly in exon 1 and exon 4 regions, when compared with NAD4 cDNA from wheat, locations of edited sites did not consistent with each other suggesting that the phenomenon of RNA editing occured randomly not site-specific manner.

Anamorphosis is highly favored in modern days as the atmosphere of pursuing unusual manners is growing while transformation and distortion of images are freely available. This research is to understand the affect of these distorted images on space designs and the close connection between anamorphosis and visual perceptions, and to identify the new perceptual phenomenon created through it, and the methods of expressing those. Four expressional methods were defined through the process of studying Anamorphosis based on its definition by Niceron, examining artworks such as paintings and photographs, and case-studying example spaces of visual perception experiments. Expressing anamorphosis through visual perceptions are broadly categorized to directional, dimensional, flatness, and optical. The analysis of 10 case projects suggests that the experimental spaces offer joys of finding and interpreting metaphorical forms and meanings caused by the four characteristic categories above. Also, they artificially show the boundaries between reality and virtual spaces in 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional spaces, and form hyper-boundaries, new experience, and an internal mechanism that is vague and chaotic. Therefore, this research concludes that anamorphosis which is a distorted perspective, is not only a simple measure to overcome perspectival errors, but is an existence suitable to the current era, that will extend its potential and value in spatial design.

We investigate the astronomical phenomenon records of Sukjong's Chunbang-Ilgi made by Sigangwon (Royal Educational Office of the Crown Prince) at which King Sukjong was the crown prince (i.e., 1667 January 24-1674 September 22). From the daily records of 2,799 days, we extract the astronomical records of 1,443 days and classify them into 14 categories. Then, we group the records of each category into five phenomena (Atmosphere, Eclipse, Daylight Appearance, Apparition, and Appulse) and compare them with the results of modern astronomical computations wherever possible. Except for Atmosphere group comprising records of meteorological events, such as solar halo, lunar halo, and unusual clouds, the significant findings in every other group are as follows: In Eclipse group, the solar eclipse that occurred on 1673 August 12 was unobservable in Korea, which is in contrast to the record of Joseonwangjo-Sillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty), which states that the sun was in eclipse around sunset time, as observed at Nam mountain. From the lunar eclipse records, we verify that the Joseon court did not change the date of the events observed after midnight. In Daylight Appearance group, we confirm that this phenomenon was observed during the daytime and not during twilight. We further suggest that if observation conditions are met, a celestial body brighter than -2.3 mag could be seen during the daytime with the naked-eye. In Apparition group, we find the possibilities that the Orionid meteor shower had influence on the meteor records and the seasonality on the aurora records. We also find that the Korean records in which the coma of comet C/1668 E1 was located below the horizon were overlooked in previous studies. Finally, we find that the records of Appulse group generally agree with the results of modern calculations. The records of Beom (trespass in literal) and Sik (eating in literal) events show average angular separations of 1.2° and 1.0°, respectively. In conclusion, we believe this work helps study the astronomical records of other logs of Sigangwon, such as Sukjong's Chunbang-Ilgi.
