  • For an unmanned vehicle to be driven on the off-road terrain, it is necessary to consider the vehicle's stability. This paper suggests a path tracking controller for simulation of real-time vehicle stability analysis. The path tracking controller uses the preview distance to track the given trajectory. The disturbance moment is estimated using the yaw moment observer, and this information is used for compensation in the yaw moment control. On a curved path, the vehicle's desired velocity is determined from the curvature of the path. Because the vehicle is equipped with six independent motor driven wheels, the driving torques are distributed on all the wheels. The effectiveness of the path tracking controller is verified using ADAMS/MATLAB co-simulation.

  • IoT (Internet of Things) emerges from various technologies such as communications, micro processors and embedded system and so on. The IoT has also been used to UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system. In manned aircraft, a pilot and co-pilot should control FCS (Flight Control System) with FBW(Fly By Wire) system for flight operation. In contrast, the flight operation in UAV system is remotely and fully managed by GCS (Ground Control System) almost in real time. To make it possible the communication channel should be necessary between the UAV and the GCS. There are many protocols between two systems. Amongst them, MAVLink (Macro Air Vehicle Link) protocol is representatively used due to its open architecture. MAVLink does not define any securities itself, which results in high vulnerability from external attacks. This paper proposes the method to enhance data security in GCS network by applying cryptographic methods to the MAVLink messages in order to support safe UAV operations.

  • This paper describes development of automatic flight control system for an unmanned target drone which is operated by Korean army as for anti-air gun shooting training. Current target drone is operated by pilot control of on-board servo motor via remote control system. Automatic flight control system for the target drone greatly reduces work load of ground pilot and can increase application area of the drone. Most UAVs being operated now days use high-priced sensors as AHRS and IMU to measure the attitude, but those are costly. This paper introduces the development of low-cost automatic flight control system with low-cost sensors. The integrated automatic flight control system has been developed by integrating combining power module, switching module, monitoring module and RC receiver as an one module. The performance of automatic flight control system is verified by flight test.

  • This paper proposes lane recognition algorithm using lane prominence technique to extract lane candidate. The lane prominence technique is combined with embossing effect, lane thickness check, and lane extraction using mask. The proposed lane recognition algorithm consists of preprocessing, lane candidate extraction and lane recognition. First, preprocessing is executed, which includes gray image acquisition, inverse perspective transform and gaussian blur. Second, lane candidate is extracted by using lane prominence technique. Finally, lane is recognized by using hough transform and least square method. To evaluate the proposed lane recognition algorithm, this algorithm was applied to the detection of lanes in the rainy and night day. The experiment results showed that the proposed algorithm can recognize lane in various environment. It means that the algorithm can be applied to lane recognition to drive unmanned vehicles.

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platform is being widely used in disaster monitoring and smart city, having the advantage of being able to quickly acquire images in small areas at a low cost. Ground Control Points (GCPs) for positioning UAV images are essential to acquire cm-level accuracy when producing UAV-based orthoimages and Digital Surface Model (DSM). However, the on-site acquisition of GCPs takes considerable manpower and time. This research aims to provide an efficient and accurate way to replace the on-site GNSS surveying with three different sources of geospatial data. The three geospatial data used in this study is as follows; 1) 25 cm aerial orthoimages, and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) based on 1:1000 digital topographic map, 2) point cloud data acquired by Mobile Mapping System (MMS), and 3) hybrid point cloud data created by merging MMS data with UAV data. For each dataset a three-dimensional positional accuracy analysis of UAV-based orthoimage and DSM was performed by comparing differences in three-dimensional coordinates of independent check point obtained with those of the RTK-GNSS survey. The result shows the third case, in which MMS data and UAV data combined, to be the most accurate, showing an RMSE accuracy of 8.9 cm in horizontal and 24.5 cm in vertical, respectively. In addition, it has been shown that the distribution of geospatial GCPs has more sensitive on the vertical accuracy than on horizontal accuracy.

  • Recently, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) in the United States is studying a new concept of war called Mosaic Warfare, and MUM-T(Manned-Unmanned Teaming) through the division of missions between expensive manned and inexpensive unmanned aircraft is at the center. This study began with the aim of deriving the priority of autonomous functions according to the role of unmanned aerial vehicles in the present and present collaboration that is emerging along with the concept of mosaic warfare. The autonomous function of unmanned aerial vehicles between the presence and absence collaboration may vary in priority depending on the tactical operation of unmanned aerial vehicles, such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, and surveillance and reconnaissance. In this paper, ACE (Air Combat Evaluation), Skyborg, and Longshot, which are recently studied by DARPA, derive the priority of autonomous functions according to air-to-air collaboration, and use AHP analysis. The results of this study are meaningful in that it is possible to recognize the priorities of autonomous functions necessary for unmanned aircraft in order to develop unmanned aerial vehicles according to the priority of autonomous functions and to construct a roadmap for technology implementation. Furthermore, it is believed that the mass production and utilization of unmanned air vehicles will increase if one unmanned air vehicle platform with only essential functions necessary for air-to-air, air-to-air, and surveillance is developed and autonomous functions are expanded in the form of modules according to the tactical operation concept.

  • Beamforming technique at the ground station is known to be effective in obtaining coverage extension or SNR gain for communication with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). When a UAV moves, periodic beam tracking is necessary to maintain beam gain. In order to track beams for multiple UAVs, the ground station needs to receive different preamble sequences from multiple UAVs. In this paper, a preamble sequence design technique is proposed for beam tracking in a GMSK-based communication system with multiple UAVs. Hadamard sequence is considered for the design of preamble sequence due to its ideal cross-correlation property. A preamble sequence appropriate for a GMSK communication system with multiple UAVs is proposed after analyzing the properties of received signal in a GMSK system with the input of Hadamard sequence.
